    Lmao well I guess Bagent actually does suck also the Bears defense getting a bit exposed now that they aren’t play schmoes its good to have clarity at least

    The only ex-Bears QB that went on to have a successful career with another team that I can think of is Kyle Orton and even then it was like, a couple OK years in Denver. (Certainly not enough to make one regret the trade for Cutler) I’m really starting to lean into the Nature on the Nature v Nurture debate about QB development. The guy is either good or not and it’s unlikely you can ruin them with poor development. I don’t think the Bears have bad QB play because they’ve coached QBs poorly (though I think they have) but mainly because they’ve scouted QB prospects really badly

    I'm probably simply overreacting to the Vikings game, where even a mediocre or regular-bad game is an easy Bears win. I don't know that "mojo" can go away and never come back, I don't think thats true. But there are mental skills that great QBs have that isn't reducible to simply intelligence - we know Fields is a smart guy and can metabolize the offense in isolation. The truth is, at this point, 2 and a half years in the league, he cannot execute that consistently on the field at game speed, which someone like Mahomes can do effortlessly. The thing thats annoying is, and I must stress I am not saying Bagent has the makings of a starter or anything, but that he, (for one game that was actually pretty mediocre by the standards of the modern NFL) had that mental processing and quick-twitch responsiveness that we've longed for Fields to display. Even during his great games, its because he excels with his feet and in that intermediate and long distance passing when he's got time to throw. Oh well. I just have to go through the phases of mourning with Fields, I guess.

    Yeah that’s all fair, my main takeaway is more Fields related : the floor can’t be that bad. QBs can and will have bad games, but you simply can’t be THAT bad when you’re bad

    The problem with Fields, obviously, is his floor for games is just way too goddamn low. You can’t have completely disaster games where the offense can’t function as frequently as he does. You can’t, regularly, fail to hit 150 yards passing. The bad games have to be salvaged, not turn into complete disasters, to at least be competitive. The floor, seemingly, with Bagent is higher. But the ceiling is probably….not very high at all.

    I gotta say the Raiders are probably more depressing than the Bears. So this game made me feel better on that front.

    I'm absolutely not gonna be mad at them for running this offense up two scores with 7-8 minutes left with their back up QB and they keep converting 3rd down This kind of situation isn't translatable to different teams in different contexts. Its absolutely fine to do it now.

    I hate to admit that i'm 95% of the way there There were some folks saying after Fields's injury that last week was the last time we'd see him start a Bears game, and I thought that was bonkers (provided he is able to come back healthy this season, which I think is pretty realistic), but man. It might be. Not a huge chance, mind, but possible.

    I'm glad that play worked really well (and its nice to see a screen actually work), but boy I kinda hate that I know Luke Getsy is sitting there smug that his little trickeration worked with this guy

    I will say Bagent's internal clock is way better than Fields's. Except for that sack at the end of half, he's been prompt with getting rid of the ball or getting out of the pocket. That's something that Fields hasn't gotten ahold of in 3 years.

    I'm glad we got to watch the team really squander an entire drive and somehow end up in the position where they had possession with 15 seconds and somehow not used any of their timeouts, which is just insane. Eberflus should be fired for that alone.

    It's a better comp, imo, because the "challenger" for the starter is someone who people project way more fantasies on that doesn't make any sense, whereas there was at least some semblance of an argument to make for Grossman v. Orton.

    roughly 2 minutes and 3 time outs - big moment for Bagent, lets see if he can complete a pass over 8 yards

    It’s not gonna be Grossman vs Orton, it’ll be closer to Cutler vs McCown. but the real smart ones know that none of this likely matters and the next starting QB isn’t yet on the roster

    One thing that’s very consistent about this team is it cannot get a pass rush at all (except when it blitzes everyone) nice play by Brisker, woulda been cool to come down with it
