  1. Monday-Thursday of next week should be a good time to be cubs fans (Schmidt, Westbrook, Lugo? Manny ??) If you think the Cubs are getting Manny you're nuts. Hehe I know.
  2. Los Vegas odds: 2:1 cubs win world series
  3. Monday-Thursday of next week should be a good time to be cubs fans (Schmidt, Westbrook, Lugo? Manny ??)
  4. Benmaller.com: "Julio Lugo may take longer, though the Red Sox have clearly signaled their desire for the former Devil Rays shortstop, who had a .373 on-base percentage before being dealt to the Dodgers in midseason. The Giants and Cubs, along with the Orioles, are teams with interest, in addition to the Sox, and the Dodgers are expected to offer Lugo arbitration." Finally, the rumors are coming back ...
  5. We don't have a Westbrook thread, so I wasn't sure where to post this. benmaller.com: "The Chicago Cubs have talked to the Cleveland Indians about a deal for pitcher Jake Westbrook, according to baseball moles. The Tribe would get pitcher Ryan Dempster among others in return for Westbrook (15-10 4.17era)." Z Schmidt Hill Westbrook Prior/Miller Maybe...Maybe?
  6. It's a pipe dream. Figgins will be starting somewhere and Victorino isn't going anywhere. Floyd and Nevin/Wilson would be AMAZING to go along with Theriot, Pagan, and Blanco.
  7. According to metsblog.com, the deadline to accept the bid for Igawa is Friday.
  8. General pitching rumor updates: http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-061127cubs,1,2546868.story?coll=cs-cubs-headlines "The Cubs seem willing to wait until next week's winter meetings to see where the market is headed." ... Ugh. I don't want to wait a week. "It doesn't appear the Cubs will be signing Schmidt or Barry Zito, the big two in the free-agent market, before next week's meetings." ... Hey there's still a chance we get Schmidt! "A second-tier Japanese pitcher, 27-year-old left-hander Kei Igawa, also is coming to the U.S., and the Cubs are believed to have put in a bid for his rights, although Hendry would only say Monday—the deadline for submitting proposals—that 'we are considering it.' Igawa is considered an end-of-the rotation starter or perhaps a long reliever. The Cubs just traded for a similar pitcher, the White Sox's Neal Cotts." ... Doesn't sound like Dave van Dyck is too high on Igawa ... "Trades also are a possibility, although the Cubs have little to give in return, especially if outfield prospect Felix Pie is untouchable. The White Sox have Mark Buehrle or Freddy Garcia—in the last years of their contracts—available, but there seems to be no match in players returning." ... Great. So there are no good free agents besides Schmidt and Zito, Igawa is bad, and we have nobody to trade. Sounds fantastic. Also ... http://www.cleveland.com/tribe/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/sports/1164535554291440.xml&coll=2&thispage=1 "Indians GM Mark Shapiro told the Plain Dealer he has no interest in trading Jake Westbrook for bullpen help. However, they are looking to acquire Scot Shields from Anaheim, and are also looking to sign Trot Nixon, who has been with the Red Sox. " This was a summary of the article on mlb-rumors.blogspot.com. I remember the GM said before that he wasn't trading Westbrook period. Now it's just not for bullpen help. Good news?
  9. Wow there've been a lot of signings today. Where art thou Jim Spendry?
  10. Hendry put down what you're doing and get him. NOW.
  11. Any idea at all about what's on Hendry's mind? Although noone really knows what's on his mind these days besides fooood.
  12. Supposedly, Maddux and Hendry parted on good terms in July. Though still somewhat improbable, with Piniella now in town, Maddux coming back to the Cubs is no longer impossible in my opinion. In fact, if the Padres, Giants or D-Backs don't grab him in the next week or so, I could see Hendry re-signing Greg to a 2-year $20M deal. Eww. No. I love Maddux, but it's time to let go. We need to do better. He's no 2/3 starter.
  13. Per Rotoworld "Reds signed catcher Chad Moeller, who had been with the Brewers, to a one-year contract. It really is a major league deal, which is just disgusting. Moeller had a 568 OPS in 317 at-bats in 2004, a 624 OPS in 199 at-bats in 1995 and a 506 OPS in 98 at-bats before the Brewers finally got fed up with him last season. By comparison, Jason LaRue finished at 663 in his disastrous 2006 season. Moeller is just an average defender, so there shouldn't be room for him on a major league roster. There are better catchers littering Triple-A rosters."
  14. While we're dreaming ... Soriano Lugo Lee Ramirez Ramirez Barrett Murton DeRosa Z Schmidt Westbrook/Igawa Hill Prior/Miller Getter done Hendry. Bye bye curse.
  15. They probably meant that 5pm was when the bids were due.
  16. Before forming an opinion about whether we should sign Igawa, I was wondering whether you guys thought Westbrook/Jennings would be better than Igawa?
  17. I know this isn't a big deal as of now, but I was just curious as to the options available ... after being signed one of the things Piniella (spelling?) stressed was a solid bench. We have Blanco and plenty of speed in Theriot and Pagan. If we can sign Floyd, he'd be a great 4th OF. Do you guys know of any free agents/trade target right-handed power infielders?
  18. He also said that Manny was either going to the Dodgers, Giants, or Padres ...
  19. Meh. I don't think he was a target for us. The pitching market is heating up, though. Hendry better act fast...
  20. Are you sure that soon? Usually it would be announced later sometime in the week.. That would be awsome though if they announced it today... Nothing's happened regarding the Cubs since last Sunday. I'm bored and dying for something good to happen... every day is one day closer to opening day - that's good! Only if we make more good transactions. I know we won't stand pat, but I'm not excited for opening day with what we have now (Or if we sign people like Meche/Padilla/Marquis).
