  1. Oh man I hope you're right. Zambrano? Schmidt? Hill? Westbrook? Miller (with prior on the background)? Pitchingasm. Honestly, if you get Schmidt, Westbrook, and a decent SS, you probably have a team that could compete with the mets for the best in the NL when healthy. I don't know why you would roll your eyes at that. Because since 2003 that has been the story of the cubs. I should have said: Here we go again ...
  2. http://www.mlb-rumors.blogspot.com/ (They're actually pretty reliable as far as I know) I think Pie would be worth it if we could package a deal around him. Z Schmidt Willis Prior/Miller Hill Now back to reality....
  3. Yes, but it needs to be done. 4/60 for Schmidt is insane. Not your money.
  4. Yes, but it needs to be done. Is Gammons reliable or is he like Olney? Although I guess reliability doesn't matter because I think it was his opinion...
  5. Per metsblog.com: Hmm.... ... is 4/60 too much?

  7. Pacific Ocean. I dunno, probably because he lives there now and doesn't want to move far away.
  8. Westbrook? Let's go one step at a time. Although if nothing gets done by Monday I'd like to see Hendry get two deals done next week. If not two pitchers, then a pitcher and a big bat. But yes I think we've all decided that we like Westbrook as a 4 starter.
  9. So he's not biased (at least not FOR the cubs) ..yaya please be right
  10. Please don't be basing this off of yesterday's reports... Who's Bob Nightengale? Reliable? Is he a biased Cubs fan?
  11. It's ok. The Red Sox would rather have Dumpster than either of them.
  12. It depends on if he wants to win or go him.
  13. Is it just me or is this really blowing out of proportion? Sarcasm.
  14. It's Bruce Miles, and all the other sites got their information from the San Fransisco Chronicle. They probably got their info from Schmidt's agent, which Bruce said was probably a false rumor that the agent thought up. I doubt that SI.com and ESPN would have it as such big news if there was only a blurb about it in the San Francisco Chronicle. Rotoworld, yes, but not SI or ESPN. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/baseball/mlb/11/28/schmidt.cubs/index.html Thats from the main baseball page from a reporter over at SI.com Yea I wasn't aware Bruce Miles' word was absolute truth these days. i wasn't aware john heyman's word was the absolute truth these days. I'm going to violate my own edict here and jump in on this thread one more, and last, time. To those who have PM'ed, I've tried to respond (in a nice way, of course), but I'm having trouble getting my messages through, and I've asked the Admin. for some help. Nobody is the ultimate authority here. The Cubs may indeed land Schmidt eventually. That's not the issue here. All I said, and it's been corroborated by two different radio reports, is that the current information about an alleged offer to Schmidt, which was put out by national outlets, is not accurate at this moment to the best of my knowledge. See you on other threads. Thanks Bruce. We appreciate it.
  15. Kaplan also said that the "Floyd deal would be done by Monday", also....So go figure. Did I miss something here? Are we supposed to be signing Floyd by Monday? Or is Floyd expected to be signed by some team by Monday? We were supposed to have signed him by yesterday per Kaplan.
  16. Kaplan is an unreliable source who has no history of ever being correct. He did break the Sammy Sosa trade. Let's go back on just the last few weeks. He said that the Cubs were close to signing Meche and a deal would be done in the next few days. That never happened. He said that the Floyd deal would be done a couple days ago. That also never happened. He said that Hendry's top priority in the offseason right after the regular season was Barry Zito. That turned out to be incorrect as well. Kaplan is more of a fan rather than someone who you can take for a reliable source regarding rumors. His credibility equals the credibility that you and I have. His "sources" are probably what was reported by Bruce Miles and Bruce Levine.
  17. Comcast Sports Net "confirmed" our offer. Should we be worried about the Cards in the race to sign Schmidt?
  18. Hopefully? There's no doubt. They just surpassed us as world series favorites.
  19. At least there's another source for the rumor. What'd they say about it?

I never said it was. Tell you what, guys, I'm done with this thread. We'll sort it all out after Schmidt either signs or doesn't sign with the Cubs. I gave you my best information as I have it as of this moment. Have fun. Thanks Bruce. We appreciate your reports. We know you are just helping us out. SOme people just like to hack the bringer of bad news.
