  1. Bears coaching gets a lot of credit. I loved the play calling on both offense and defense last night. Babich had Manning confused all night long. I lost track of how many times I heard Manning yell "Watch 55!" Hester's endzone play was an all or nothing moment. I know he's frustrated with them kicking away from him, but you still gotta play smart. Cute trick...don't do it again, especially since everyone has seen you do that against the Giants. Vasher had some problems overpursuing, but the secondary managed to prevent the big play. They mentioned last night that they are going to keep Mike Brown in pass coverage, and not have him up in the box since that's where he always gets injured. Probably a smart idea. Forte....stud. He really highlights how horrible Benson was. Great job hitting the holes, and making something out of nothing. The cutback to the left side when the hole closed on that one play was even more impressive than the 51yd TD run to me. Nice job O-line...didn't think you had it in you. The bad snap was on Kreutz. I'm starting to think the snap issues with Rex the last few years are on Olin. I needed this game to get excited about this season.
  2. Is that the Karate Kid song? How about Eye of the Tiger? Yeah, that's the Karate Kid song. Wow...this is the first time I've read this thread, and I can't believe someone took my suggestion on the very first page. I thought that this one would be obscure enough that it wouldn't have been mentioned. Bravo!
  3. I actually saw the last bit of Rome is Burning yesterday, and he pretty much said the exact same thing. He replayed Hester's opening kickoff return at the Super Bowl, and said anything other than kicking it out of bounds is a mistake. I hate to agree with that man, but...
  4. I don't think cubs fans should be saying that much can be extrapolated from a four game span of a 162 game season. At least not after these last four games ;) So wait, the Cubs can't talk trash after a 4 game sweep, but the Brewers can talk trash for being 4.5 games back? The Cubs may be in a bad stretch, and it may have been only a 4 game sweep, but it's still a lot more than the Brewers got as far as "rights to trash talk".
  5. I'm surprised that Booker made the team over Rideau.
  6. MLB.com has been counting it for a long time. It's the E# column. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/standings/index.jsp CBS Sportsline has been doing it for a while too.
  7. I totally got the "Ellis" thing before he mentioned it specifically. God I've seen that movie too many times.
  8. Haugh's been saying this pretty consistently on Tribune Live on CSN too. 6 RB, 2 QB. And it seems like David is right an awful lot. I with you though...keep Hanie, ditch Wolfe. Wolfe isn't ever going to be more than is right now, IMO. Hanie doesn't count toward the 53 man roster because the 3rd QB is "inactive" for the games and can't play unless the first 2 guys get hurt and once they play in a game, the other guys can't come back in. Not true, he would count toward the 53. He just wouldn't count on the gameday or active roster which is at 45. Hmm, so they're only going with 2 QBs, both of whom are bad, behind a line that might as well dress as ushers or turnstiles? Better get Jeff George on speed dial because both Orton and Rex will get knocked out of a game at some point this season. Well if they keep Hanie on the practice squad, the only problem they'd have (outside of performance that is) is if both Orton and Rex get hurt in the same game. If one or the other gets hurt, you activate Hanie the next week.
  9. It looks like you and Steve Rosenbloom think alike, Raisin. He made the same mistake. How fun for you.

  11. Lindsay Lohan thinks Kyle Orton is "super-hot".
  12. I'm getting pretty tired of Lovie myself.
  13. I hearby promise to dedicate at least 3 posts in the NLCS game threads to our failure to have a winning record against the Nationals this year.
  14. Ignorant was a poor choice of wording, as it was meant to criticize the opinion, not the person, so I apologize for that if you took that against you personally. However, this game individually doesn't matter...any more than any other game. And if we miss the playoffs, that's still true. At the end of the season, I promise you, we'll barely remember this game if we lose the division. There will be so much more heartbreak between now and then you'll look back on 2003 fondly. You didn't say "this game doesn't matter more than others". You said it doesn't matter. Pretty big difference. How about this...if there was a ranking of losses and their importance, and if losses were in any way more important than one another, this one would be at or near the bottom.

  16. You could also point to the numerous other games the Cubs lost over the course of the season as being equally responsible, whether they were losses to the Brewers or to the Nationals. Of course, ut he said that this game does not matter, then goes on to call ME ignorant. I called the position an ignorant position to take. I never said YOU were ignorant.
  17. At the end of the year, are you gonna care? If it costs us the division I will If we lose the division, it's not going to be this game that's the cause. It's gonna be the 18 more that we lose down the stretch. If we lose the division by 1 game, splitting the season series vs the worst team in baseball will have had nothig to do with it? Interesting logic. If we lose the division by 1 game, that means we're losing to the likes of the Reds, Pirates, and Astros down the stretch. Those are division teams, that we play a ton of. Those records are much more meaningful than a couple of 3 game series against the Nats. How about this? This game is a tradeoff for the one against the Marlins that we should've lost.... You're missing the point. You sid that it won't matter that we split the season series vs the Nats at the end of the season. If we end up losing the division by 1 game, it absolutely will have mattered. Yes there would be a big collapse in September, but that doesn't change the fact that we wouldn't have lost the division if we took care of the worst team in baseball. All I'm sayin is that this team has not clinched anything yet, so people need to stop acting like we've got things wrapped up. Nope. You're missing the point. One loss DOES NOT MATTER. Doesn't matter if what the margin of win/loss at the end is. It's a collective thing. This loss would matter exactly as much the other 49 this year. To put more importance on this game is ignorant. Okay, let's say we finish one game out of a playoff spot. If we won the season series vs the Nats, do we finish one game out of a playoff spot? Answer me that question please, instead of calling me ignorant. The what-if game is fun. Again, if we lose the division, that means that we've likely lost the season series to the Reds, and Astros. Why not play the what-if game with division opponents instead of the nationals who we only played 6 games against this season?
  18. And this thread is annoying even with that ratio. God could you imagine what it would be if the ratio was reversed? There might be a suicide pact or something. that'd certainly improve the quality of future game threads to have the only two non-crazies dead and a game thread full of unbridled insanity? wait i thought the crazies were killing themselves and we're only losing two rational people. Could go either way. If the crazies don't kill themselves, the rational might have to just to escape the crazies.
  19. He's concentrating too much on his hitting, and not on his pitching. Also his release point is too low. And he broke a molar. And he's too emotional. And his potassium is low. And he hasn't drank enough water.
  20. BTW, just to nitpick, shouldn't that ratio be reduced to 5/1? 10/2 just seems odd.
  21. And this thread is annoying even with that ratio. God could you imagine what it would be if the ratio was reversed? There might be a suicide pact or something.
  22. lol....well shoot I'd like to clinch a month ahead of the end of the season, but lets just take clinching at all, shall we? :)

  24. It took extras for them to beat the Pizza Hut team from the Mustang League, but to be fair, the Pizza Hut team was the returning champs.
