  1. jesus christ it would be great if "sports reporting" was more about the reporting and less about being used to propagate leverage for the stupid front offices. It’s why Mark Gonzales is one of my favorite follows for Cubs stuff. He doesn’t speculate/push things, he just reports stuff as it happens. At least on twitter. Not to mention his elite photography skills.

  4. randall is around. bcvm something or other Yeah...he does the radio highlights at the end of the game threads.
  5. Aren't we blaming Chili for a lot of that?
  6. [tweet] [/tweet] Outside the box, as expected...ho hum.
  7. I'm trying to think if there's much need for strict enforcement. I don't think anybody will care if the shortstop is a smidge over to the 2nd base side. The potential rule is designed to keep the 3rd baseman from playing short-right field. Which nobody will even attempt after this rule. I just don't anticipate a lot of umpire enforcement being necessary.
  8. like when we argue over pizza places? Everybody wins with pizza though. Well...ok not St Louis. But everybody else.
  9. So managers can't position players where he wants them? I think batters ought to learn how to hit to the opposite field or lay down a bunt to the opposite side. The article addresses that. Basically saying it's never gonna happen.

  11. Mooney doesn't do "positive" anymore.

  13. His account is protected, not locked. I can still see the posts. Many of his posts in the last 12 hours are laughing at the idea that his posts hold any value. I don't think there's much to see here.
  14. I don't follow the Bulls much at all, but how are GarPax still around? How many coaches do they get to hire/fire? This is Boylan's second stint as coach, right?
  15. Fine. The real world is more important than championships.
  16. He's one of the best defensive SS's in baseball and he's still only 24. It's pretty clear he's been affected by the off the field stuff (by his own doing) but when he's good, he has value. Letting Russell go for what is still an accusation (as far as we know) hurts this baseball team going forward whether people like it or not. and FYI, I trust the front office in doing the right thing here. There's stuff that has gone on behind the scenes that people are completely oblivious to. 1) He was suspended. Something happened. It's more than an accusation. 2) I don't care if it hurts the baseball team. This isn't about his talent, or the right baseball move. Non-tendering him was the right thing to do to send a message that the Cubs won't accept DV. 3) I don't know why you would trust the front office with anything regarding DV or player character. They have a history of showing they don't care about that horsefeathers. And I'm sure the next time the Cubs make a personnel move you don't agree with, you can fall back on "there's stuff going on behind the scenes that I'm completely oblivious to" and just trust the front office...right? As fans we work with the facts that we have available to us. And what we have available here sucks.
  17. I'll stop here because again, I don't want Russell back, and I don't care if they get anything for him or not. Even so, I had zero doubt that they would tender him so I'm surprised that so many appear to be shocked/angered by that outcome. I think there's a reasonable argument to be made they need to tender him regardless of their intentions, but even if not it's more than fair to think it doesn't matter because they wouldn't have non-tendered him even in a zero-risk situation. More broadly, similar to Badger this is a frustrating situation because there isn't a great and just outcome. If banishing Russell to be a full-time Pokemon trainer would help with future DV in his life or others, then it'd be easy. But it doesn't so I'm caught between feeling like the only outcome is an unproductive exacting of a pound of flesh, and also being okay with never seeing him again because no fans need to have a conflict of cheering him on knowing his past actions. People aren't angry because they expected the Cubs to do the right thing and non-tender him. They're angry because they expected them to do the wrong thing and tender him, and they lived up to those unfortunate expectations. Fans that are angry do not care about the business/team success ramifications. They want a message that DV is not ok...that the Cubs think DV is not ok. And yet every action they take sends the exact opposite message.
  18. I believe people that say things I like. I don't believe people that say things I don't like. So I believe this.
  19. Remember how long it took last year for things to happen? I don't anticipate this going quickly at all.
  20. No, that guy sucks lol your anger toward him every time he's mentioned amuses me.
