You (and I) may not care. But there will be some next level meatball rioting going on if they ever mess with Wrigley Field's naming. They've been able to do a lot of smaller naming rights, like Gallagher Way, Audi Legends suite, Nuveen Investments suite, and Budweiser Patio and I imagine they'll continue to go with that strategy, since the name of the field is so iconic.

Even if he's right that the Cubs and Harper aren't happening though, he's still at least lying about the reason. The Cubs have never had an issues with "purchasing players" in the past. I get that he can't say "the Ricketts don't want to spend the money", but he's clearly not being entirely forthcoming here.

I'm willing to concede that I may hold an opinion of it slightly higher than it deserves because my wife has a hangup about "pizza from a gas station", so I don't get it very often.
