  1. Nah, I don't think it's a cover. With as weird as they've been about this, I definitely think it was something that they knew was probably coming, and was a legit personal situation. If they were just letting him save face, they would've done it at the same time as the other coaches.
  2. My money is on option 2. It probably isn't actual collusion, but this is what collusion would look like. I don't think the "play disinterested" negotiating strategy is such a secret technique that collusion would be necessary.
  3. Poor Tom Ricketts "Poor" in the money sense? As in, he and his family are stupid rich but from time to time money suddenly becomes an obstacle.
  4. Is everyone scared off by his asking price or are the teams using the same strategy to try and lower his price? My money is on option 2.
  5. There's obvious reasons for wanting Bryce, but I'm not gonna lie...if the Cubs get him, I'm really gonna love seeing the Chicago media bitch about being lied to.
  6. So the Yankees say they're out, and the Dodgers and Cubs both have news released that they may not have the money... How peculiar.
  7. Isn't that something every team does when they're wooing the top free agent now? Show the person their name in the team uniform or graphics? I feel like the Cubs did something like in their sales pitch to Lester.
  8. Playing some devil's advocate... The Cubs philosophy since Theo took over has been to develop position players, and to pay for pitching. I wonder if they decided they had to keep doing that? Trust that the guys on the offense that have struggled can play up to their potential, and continue to pay for pitching because you don't have home grown pitching that's trustworthy?
  9. Eh...some of the results haven't been good. But how many people at the time those decisions were made thought they were bad? Sometimes the right decisions don't pan out. I don't know what the story with Hickey is, and having to replace him after a year surely isn't ideal, but it definitely seems out of the ordinary and not something that can necessarily be pinned on something Theo should have foreseen.
  10. Saad took a puck to the grill in practice. He was taken straight to the dentist.
  11. The way this is going down, I wonder if it's not so much firing Hickey as him wanting to leave for some reason? Otherwise i don't know why they didn't pull the trigger at the same time they did Chili.
  12. Jesse Rogers says he thinks that's gonna happen, but it's not official.
  13. There's rumors out there now that the Hawks were just gonna fire Dineen and Samuelson but that Q fought them on it...leading to his being dismissed too.
  14. Yea, and I don't think it even took that much hindsight benefit to say some of those deals were bad as they were handed out. Bowman showed way too much loyalty to his guys. Either extending them or reacquiring them. My question is, how much did Q have to do with that? Everybody knows that guys that were in his doghouse would get traded away, so he had to have some influence in transactions. How much did he want those guys back that he'd had success with, even though they were older? Ultimately it comes down to Bowman, but I if Q also had input, I don't think the "oh poor Q, he was handed bad players" holds up entirely.
  15. They should've just done this in the offseason if it's what they wanted to do. Doing it now is pretty gross. I'm not that upset with the coaching change....just with how it was done.
  16. UHHH [tweet] [/tweet]
  17. And don't forget! We may have to pay Chatwood an extra $4m if he's an All-Star and wins the Cy Young in 2019!
  18. I'm sure it's a complicated issue, but my initial reaction is that I like it.
  19. I'd imagine that they'd have to go well above and beyond other offers to get either of them.
