  1. That one stuck out to me as best D play of the year, too. Which is, of course, high praise with this squad.
  2. I only made it through a few minutes. It was a mixture of anger and sadness for someone that could actually, literally believe that's reasonable.
  3. No. I did, too. But she said she's a "workaholic" and later in the article it mentions that he bought her a house so *shrug*. I just assumed maybe she's comfortable doing what she's used to and would be a nervous wreck otherwise? Edit: no clue about not seeing it since. Hell, I've watched it at least a half dozen times myself.
  4. great article: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/columnist/bob-nightengale/2017/02/09/addison-russell-cubs/97693202/
  5. Not saying I hated the trade or anything, but I'll miss Soler. Hell, I still miss Castro. Both just seem so damn likeable (especially compared to, say, Arrieta)
  6. LLF approves of this flyer
  7. I think that's a pretty damn good staff (with the obvious thought that more starting depth - even at AAA - would be ideal). I'm really hoping they just go with a six man rotation from the start of the year. Obvious benefit to Anderson and Montgomery considering their lack of innings. Lackey and Arrietta aging and pitched a ton of innings last year. Hendricks had a career high innings last year and of course doesn't have a huge frame (though I'm not sure he couldn't handle it year in and year out given his repertoire. I love everything about him). It just seems like the perfect group to try this on.

  9. I'd be happy af for someone sober to drive my ferrari when i'm drunk. unfortunately i can only afford a camry and have to uber it to the bar.
  10. a bit tangential probably, but girls are also much more likely to tear their ACL than boys. i know this because an ex tore her ACL and MCL as a cheerleader in high school and looked into some of the stats. I don't feel like looking it up but I want to say that girls cheerleaders are actually a really, really high injury risk in general? This article delves into the ACL stuff and while I know nothing of the source, it seems to be well cited
  11. yeah, i didn't say that i necessarily agreed with what the article was suggesting (or throwing out as a possibility) - just that it was interesting. the idea that peak offensive barry bonds - on poor pitch framing alone (not taking into account throwing ability/blocking ability/game calling) - would somehow go from best to worst player in the league is crazy and i don't buy it, obviously. i just thought it interesting and puts into context some of the limitations of the pitch framing data.
  12. I thought this was a very interesting article about the value of pitch framing. It's succinct, and ends with the notion that if peak offensive Barry Bonds were the worst possible pitch framer, he would by far be the least valuable player in the league. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/how-bad-could-a-pitch-framer-possibly-be/
  13. out of curiosity, if not beer, what's a beer related gift?
  14. this is a truly awesome idea and thread

  18. OK. Now he can be traded for pitching.
  19. maybe he's just acknowledging he kind of sucked in game 7 and that's what he disagreed with? that he was worked to the point he wasn't as effective as he wished he could be? he was crying during the rain delay because he felt so bad for blowing the lead. it's not like he pouting or threw a tantrum in the moment or directly thereafter. seems like a nonissue but i don't really care either way i guess.
  20. but presumably the cubs would want their best pitchers to be part of their mlb team unless they're hurt. you don't stash CEJ in AAA so that some other inferior pitcher has a spot on opening day.
  21. Let's wait and make sure Travis makes it through deer season without an accident
  22. Win the conference title game and you're in. If you don't, then you won't. How is that at all really different from NFL playoffs? That is, of course, with the caveat that you're a team like Alabama who would get an at-large bid this year if they somehow screwed up the game bad enough against Florida. The conference championships would in effect be the "first round" of the playoffs for most teams. I don't see the issue.
  23. i see what you did there
  24. (spoilered for size) you have to copy the image address, not the page itself. not sure what you paid or how big, but it does look really nice. I have a printout of the CT front page from our office color printer taped to my office door. i even managed to use the paper cutter so well the lines are somewhat straight.
  25. I generally like Bilas too. And watching a lot of ACC basketball I agree he goes above and beyond to try not to sound like a homer. Sometimes so much so that I feel he sounds anti-Duke to a degree.
