I was coming here to post that this was probably the case. Hurdle has paid attention to the player voting very, very closely when replacing people in the starting lineup/roster. That's the same reason that was given for Holliday being given the starting nod, for example. I don't even think this was really a choice. I was just listening to XM Home Plate and whoever the host was said that if a player cannot participate in the AS game due to an injury (Wood), the next highest vote getter at that position MUST be selected (Marmol). The host said that it wasn't a widely known rule, but was part of the arrangement in 2002 in order to get the PA to agree to the WS home field advantage. Now it could be possible that this guy could has this whole thing screwed up, but he acted as if he knew what he was talking about and it didn't sound like speculation to me.
