  1. My screen's fine...but my heart melted
  2. Check the HR Derby game thread
  3. I believe that is what he attributes to turning his life around
  4. That was dumb. They should do overall HR.
  5. Yeah, I kinda figured that I would open up a can of worms, but I'm just passing along what the guy said. After looking up the programming from this morning, it was either Chuck Wilson or Joe Castellano. I have no idea if either guy is a credible source. If the guy was indeed correct, then I'm inclined to agree with Bob's guess that it's the player's votes that are used to determine injury subs and not the fan's votes. I couldn't possibly see why the Player's Association would take into account the fan's vote during any bargaining agreement.
  6. I was coming here to post that this was probably the case. Hurdle has paid attention to the player voting very, very closely when replacing people in the starting lineup/roster. That's the same reason that was given for Holliday being given the starting nod, for example. I don't even think this was really a choice. I was just listening to XM Home Plate and whoever the host was said that if a player cannot participate in the AS game due to an injury (Wood), the next highest vote getter at that position MUST be selected (Marmol). The host said that it wasn't a widely known rule, but was part of the arrangement in 2002 in order to get the PA to agree to the WS home field advantage. Now it could be possible that this guy could has this whole thing screwed up, but he acted as if he knew what he was talking about and it didn't sound like speculation to me.
  7. It's David Schwimmer, not David Spade. This is David Spade: http://www.nndb.com/people/704/000022638/spade-pubshot-med.jpg
  8. we can't? the cubs have a 5 game lead and are something like a 95% chance to make the playoffs. Make that a 5.5 game lead (largest all year, I believe). Not to mention the largest divisional lead in baseball.
  9. Almost like a trading deadline acquisition without giving anybody up. That's sort of how I feel about Soriano too. I'm so optimistic regarding the rest of the year! I'm not sure I've ever been more proud or excited to be a Cubs fan! It's obvious that a season-ending injury is coming. For whom, Hill? Even that would hardly be devastating to their chances this year. To be honest, even if Harden has to make a relatively brief trip to the DL it wouldn't bother me that much, as long that the Cubs are extra cautious regarding his health come playoff time.
  10. The bunt decision may be debatable, I could argue for or against it. However, not pinch running for Marshall, given that Fontenot was bunting, is unforgivably stupid. Obviously Lou was planning on bunting the runner to third and hoping for a sac fly. Surly he wasn't going to ask Marshall to score from third on a sac fly! If he would have gone ahead and substituted Cedeno (pinch runner extraordinaire) when Marshall was on second, I think he could have possibly/probably made it to third safely.

  12. I slow-moed it on my dvr, his foot hit the plate before he was touched. Yeah, I think I've got a pretty good eye for these things and he beat it by a nanosecond.
  13. So Lou does indeed think rest could be beneficial for a overused young pitcher. What a novel idea!
  14. It was bang-bang, but I think he JUST beat it IMO.
  15. And get pissed off that someone had the audacity to ask him about it
  16. This. But if you were going to bunt, you should have pinch run for Marshall. That was dumb. Also, nice call CubinNY.
  17. probably because it's hard to justify wasting both a bench player and a pitcher in extras. And...thats why you would. :banghead:
  18. Yeah, I know what you mean. The Cubs are a horrible team and the A's are way better.
