  1. Agreed. And I'm all for signing Austin Jackson if he is affordable/doesn't have a full-time gig elsewhere. Maybe he'll take a slight discount to come back - especially with the familiarity with this team. I wouldn't change anything with this offseason so far (except maybe wishing there was a Lackey-level FA talent that could have been had on Lackey's contract that wasn't actually John Lackey, but at this point I'm whatevs). That being said, I'm going to miss Fowler and Castro a whole lot. 2015 Cubs baseball is always going to hold a special place in my heart. I guess if nothing else it gives me a reason to follow them and their new team and maybe I'll be more interested in watching more non-Cubs MLB games that I have been in light of that. And I (perhaps even irrationally) REALLY don't want to trade Montero because I [expletive] love that dude a lot.
  2. this could go in the fantasy football forum but i dont think it's well populated and i don't believe it will annoy anyone. so I picked up White in a league where we have (option) of two keepers each year. nobody drafted in first 3 rounds can be kept and you can only keep for two years. anyways, do you all believe white is worth hanging onto as a keeper? the penalty would only be losing a final round draft pick since i picked him up for free on waivers (obviously). I really don't have any obvious other keepers (one was Andre Ellington who can piss off after this year).
  3. i'm normally too distracted by the wood headphones to tell if the jersey is real or fake
  4. watch out for the punches to the nuts next
  5. so much of this american population of parents are complete assholes. I umpired for a short time in pee wee (5-6 year olds mostly, I believe). I was the only umpire for the entire field. I constantly was berated by coaches and parents for missed calls (e.g. running out of the base line...THE BASE LINE..they are [expletive] five years old). I lasted a good part of one season and then called it quits. I was 17 I think? so just about half of my lifetime ago. the kids had no idea of what was going on other than just trying to have fun. they literally couldn't have given a [expletive] less if they won or lost. but a large population of the adults wanted to suck the fun out of such a simple and pure activity.

    Castro

Yup. Thought he was fun. Liked his walkup music. Don't give a [expletive] that he's gone. people with souls care, dammit
  7. I listened to the press conference yesterday and Zo said something about being completely fine with playing OF, too, but never specifically mentioned any other IF spot. Of course neither he, nor Madden or Jed came out and said he couldn't/won't play SS. Just the impression I got. Assuming Javy makes the roster I can't imagine many scenarios in which he would be needed at SS. I'm also assuming Ryan will be DFA'ed at some point, but maybe that's wishful thinking.
  8. With Zobrist's ability to play in the OF and Javy also getting some reps there, I would think it could be either/or. I wouldn't mind Villanueva getting a shot, personally.
  9. Zobrist saying he's definitely not opposed to still playing the OF and moving around the diamond even after the opening at 2B.
  10. First question from reporter: "how serious were you about becoming a Met?" Awesome question, bud.
  11. I chose to keep Miggy and Cogs, but obviously prefer to keep all four if possible.
  12. is there a way quoted tweets could still be displayed as tweets? minor gripe, of course, but just an inquiry
  13. Well I know who's going in my new sig gordon wittenmyer? i like sigs. please don't force my hand and make me turn them off
  14. As long as you film it and put it on the net is there no end to your bloodlust???
  15. as much as I hope Mendy succeeds, I'm afraid at this point he just sucks. if all the other super prospects work out, i'm totally fine sacrificing Alcantara
  16. this is from March of 2015, but a good write up on Adam Warren's repertoire http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/who-might-adam-warren-be/
  17. It's Adam Warren and not Andrew, yes? Am I missing something?
  18. That's actually a really well structured contract. with the no-trade clause only being valid for three years and the fourth year at a discount, sure seems like they are at least giving themselves an out in regards to a trade after 2018 (assuming he still has value at that point).
  19. have a good friend who's a yankees fan who as always pulled for the cubs on my behalf. at least now I'll have a player on his team I can genuinely root for.
  20. Yanks covet him. Would love him but I feel like Miller would be more likely from them. I am intrigued by the Adam Warren rumor. did I miss a tweet that's been posted that Warren is actually rumored to be tied to the trade? Or is this still speculation on our part? Joel Sherman raised the possibility. thanks. bouncing back in forth between the two threads and figured i missed something.

  22. Fangraphs projected his overall value via WAR to eclipse 63 million over the next four years. So, while that is certainly not a sure thing or set in stone, I think 56 MM certainly doesn't seem like an overpay. Especially with no incentives or options as being reported.
  23. I should have trimmed back a million AAV from my 4/64 projection instead of adding a million from the 4/60 that I originally threw out there. 4/56 (taken as a whole) could be worth every penny, honestly. Still sad to see Castro go, but it seems inevitable now. I'll have to change my sig :(
