  1. In 2004 LaTroy Hawkins blew 9 saves for a team that finished just 3 games out of a playoff spot. Dempster has blown 4 saves (if you extrapolate 8 or 9) for a team that's going to finish 20+ games out of first and make a run at the worst record in the league. Not much of a comparison if you ask me. i guess it's not if you're only comparing the blown save statistic.
  2. i like the tigers because it gives me hope that a terrible team can turn it around
  3. If he doesnt even know how powerful he is, how can a couple of internet chatboarders like us know? Give the man a break!
  4. Hahahahah, i like that he's basically saying what we've been saying all along, the manager doesnt matter, give a terrible manager good players and he'll still win. He wins if he has good players, loses if he has bad players, hahahah, way to go Dusty.
  5. You guys should write nsbb.com on the bags

  7. BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!  or "i didnt have the ball, bitch"
  8. I cant decide if 98 or 06 was worse. In 98, we were just terrible, in 06, we were terrible AND we had expectations going in. I dont know. After 98 everyone said it would set american soccer back, but look at 02. Who knows what will happen.
  9. our players are bad at baseball

    Who?

.300/.355/.557 in June. Welcome back Aramis.
  11. i like >10/1 k/bb ratios
  12. This team is garbage, it's time we all came to grips. Yeah, if we win all of our series from now until August whatever we'll be back at .500. When was the last time any team won every series they were in for a month a half? If it's been done before I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the team that pulled it off was talented. This team is not that talented, and the majority of the talent is on the DL (or just coming off of it). I mean, why just settle for winning every series? Let's sweep every series, that way we can be back at .500 in July! This team sucks ass, let it go.
  13. jeremy piven is the highlight of the season for me.
  14. Hahhaha, an older player can change a lot over the course of 6 years. Jesus, a six year split. Is the average career in the majors even up to 6 years? I doubt it. Why not a ten year split? Let's judge Maddux on his last 15 years in the league.
  15. livan has pitched in some pretty decent pitchers parks in his time hasnt he? He's ok, he has a place on a team, but he's no big deal.
  16. I wouldnt count on Palmer being 100% for awhile, he may be doing workouts and 3 step drops now or whatever, but he decimated that knee. I dont like your running backs either.
  17. I wouldnt be surprised if Hendry traded Prior. If Marmol and Marshall look decent for the rest of the year and dont break down, he may be willing to turn over the pitching rotation to the new jacks.
  18. Yes! Happy Mark Pawelek day everybody!
  19. whatever rests our pitchers is money to me. wood gets sore after 5 innings, prior is just coming back, zambrano has dead arm, marshall hasnt thrown more than 100 innings give or take in a season, marmol hasnt been pitching very long, maddux is old etc etc etc

    Strikeouts

Strikeouts are bad from a hitters perspective as far as the fact that all outs are bad. What people are saying is that from a numerical standpoint, striking out doesnt effect your numbers as a hitter any more than any other out. Over the course of 600 at bats, a strikeout is a popout is a groundout. Who is more valuable? The guy who strikes out a lot more than average and hits .260 or the guy who hits .300 and grounds out a lot more than average? Well, if the .260 hitting hacking machine walks a lot and hits for power (when he does make contact) while the .300 hitter doesn't walk (and doesnt strike out) but replaces those k's with groundouts because he's a groundball hitter without a lot of power, chances are, the guy with the strikeouts is worth more to your team. You want your pitchers to strike everyone out because if you strike a guy out, he absolutely cannot hurt you via the walk/hit/homerun whatever. You don't neccessarily care if your batters strikeout because they still have another 600+ at bats over the course of the season to be valuable. It's an issue of looking at each particular at-bat or looking at the big picture.
