  1. Hahah, damage control by Ozzie? I'm sure he caught a lot of flack for the whole "somebody gets hurt, Joe Crede is in" thing from earlier. What better way to absolve himself than to invite this "Venezuelan piece of [radio edit]".
  2. A computer? You lost me. I'm saying that Prior is having a rough go of it because of these reasons He's young and since he hasn't ever played a full season, he's missed a lot of development time. Aside from all the time he's missed, the actual injuries have to have had a detrimental effect on his stuff, at least somewhat, considering he's injured his leg, his achilles, his shoulder and his elbow. These are actual, real reasons that you can point the finger at and say "Hey, this stuff actually happened and are actual reasons that players actually do worse than we may want/expect". Saying that "he isn't tough enough" or "he isn't mentally strong enough" or "he doesn't have enough composure" is just a guess. You can actually point to the injuries and the missed time, those are real. The rest are just stupid assumpions, and I'm sure you know what happens when you assume. When Prior went through his first real, bad injury in 2003 (shoulder) he came back and dominated. Not just pitched well, but dominated. I'd say that takes some mental toughness.
  3. I think some can but what I don't like about Prior is when he struggles he doesn't seem (yeah IMO) to be able to fight out of it. He's had a lot of success and can't deal with failure when he face's it. He's freaking fighting his way out of some rather screwed up injury issues, as well as having to deal with the ineptitude of Dusty Baker throughout his major league career. This all seems like more of the "he's not man enough" rubbish that everybody falls back on when explaining why things aren't so fine and dandy right now. I agree. How many ace pitchers have had the weight of a franchise thrust onto their shoulders and came out the better for it? As a 25 year old, I'm sure there's more than enough pressure on him, without having to battle back from consistent and random injuries. It's almost like some fans (and Dusty) think that he's supposed to pitch a perfect game every time out there. Agreed. I get really sick of these stupid "insights" into players personality that everyone seems to have. Instead of realizing that he's been hurt every single year he's been in the majors and thinking about the effect that just the missed time will have on a player (not to mention the actual injury and rehab, etc), let's blame him for not being man enough. Michael Barret is stupid, Corey Patterson is uncoachable, Wood and Prior aren't tough enough, whatever the excuse of the day is. Things are bad enough now without coming up with stupid and pointless comments about a players mental toughness, or physical toughness or whatever it is these days.
  4. hahah, dammit, I was coming in here to ask that

    Draft time

When do you guys want to start?
  6. Lets see, Rusch had a terrible 1 inning of work. Thank god he's good 75% of the time for us, that means that we've got 3 shutout innings coming up.
  7. Didnt Griffey do that exact thing to the Yanks back when he was in Seattle?
  8. it sucks that the fans have to choose between the second best pitcher in the majors over the first half of the season and the best hitter in the AL
  9. and sex
  10. Pagan was a bad hitter in the minor leagues. His average was decent, but a lot more goes into judging a hitter than just batting average. A weak OBP and terrible SLP ruin whatever good his decent batting average accomplished.
  11. im thinking about it, if its a night game. You should hook me up with some student tix
  12. I believe that is exactly the point. Then I don't understand what it is. There are many pitchers who fail at starting and then go on to be relievers. Some of them become good relievers, some bad. What makes Dempster more likely to be among the good relievers? dont you see? because that is exactly the point
  13. http://sooner.nmn.speedera.net/pics25/400/JF/JFMIWEHZDYWLGDX.20060629234400.jpg http://sooner.nmn.speedera.net/pics8/400/WG/WGJYBZNLUSUSSSM.20060629234349.jpg August cant get here soon enough as far as im concerned
  14. would that be the labia majora or minora?
  15. Who the hell is doing this game on mlb.tv? they're pretty goofy
  16. working in a simpsons reference in a world cup thread, good work.
  17. Probably Ross, since im assuming it's a cincinnati boy.
  18. Wonderful. Yeah, he fouled off a 2 strike pitch, let go of the bat and really grimaced.
  19. Lee doesnt look good, im betting he doesnt come back out for the next inning. He's still hurting.
  20. A single is better than a walk in most situations. A walk has zero shot of driving in a run unless the bases are loaded. Also, a single can move a runner from 1st to third while a walk cannot. I would agree with you that for your lead off hitter OBP should be the most important stat and that a walk is just as effective as a single, but other than that to say a walk = single is misinformed , especially for a middle of the lineup player. When the Cubs played the Reds, the Reds announcers were commenting and bemoaning Dunn's inability to put the bat on the ball in crucial situations. They also stated that he is either looking for a HR or will happily accept a walk. He is considered an all or nothing player by the people who watch him day in and day out. Oops, I meant it vice versa. No one is going to say that a walk is better than a single. My bad.
  21. Happy Ma...Boise Day! Pawelek and Colvin all in one day, hell yeah.

They will, in my opinion, regret not taking Brandon Roy. Roy will be the ROY and an excellent player. This happens every year. Happened with Wade (no I am not saying Roy is Wade), Chris Paul, etc. Teams are afraid to pass on a potential star instead of taking the guy that can be a consistent threat. Keep drafting on pure potential Bulls. I thought we stopped that crap after the HS kids and all the Euros didn't pan out. Guess we're at it again. Who was picked on potential over Paul? Marvin Williams? Deron Williams was selected because he is was better than Chris Paul. Poll ten NBA execs and ask them which guard they'd rather have WIlliams or Paul and if less than 8 say Paul I'll be shocked. After year one they would have all wanted Jason Williams before Chauncey Billups. I like D. Williams, and I know he's your hometown boy, but come on. Paul is the more complete player. Time will provide the answer. No he is a better scorer. Williams is a better passer, better defender, and runs a team better. Hahaha, you're drunk. Paul is so much better than Williams that it isnt funny.
  24. No one thinks that a single is better than a walk. But when looking at two players, if one gets on base significantly more than the other, it doesnt matter if that obp is registered via walk or bat on ball, what matters is that he makes fewer outs.
  25. [george costanza] Can't you desour? Why can't you desour?[/george costanza] Show me 2003 the rest of this season and all of next season (plus no DL), and I will desour. I don't see it happening, but if it somehow did, I would. be the best pitcher in the majors for a year and a half and you'll be okay with him? i'm pretty sure that's too high a standard. He set it. you set it. He did all that before all the injuries, abused by dusty or not.
