  1. i hate him then
  2. big deal, aramis fan talks to LEN
  3. Peyton Manning Steven Jackson Torry Holt
  4. what the hell is an mgl
  5. Most of the players disliked Barrett. Barrett was a bad defensive catcher, couldn't hit well, and Z nearly killed him. The Cubs have been great since he left. It was a good move. A.) Corellation or B.) causation? (hint, the answer is A)
  6. Newsflash... there are only 10 catchers in baseball with an OPS above 700. How many are there with an OPS below .550? I can think of one (that doesnt play for us)
  7. GET THOSE OPTIMISTIC NUMBERS OUT OF HERE! GET THOSE NUMBERS THAT DONT MEAN ANYTHING OUT OF HERE :?: He's not the second coming of Johnny Bench, but those aren't bad numbers, especially for a catcher. We need him to produce for a few months, hopefully he will hit like last year. If not, Lou has shown he will play guys that produce so Soto could get the nod down the road if Kendall continues to struggle. The numbers are actually quite good. The bad news is that he was much younger and much better when he put them up. He's not the same player anymore.
  8. Well, he accumulated those numbers when he was good and on the Pirates Yeah. But are you really ready to just conclude that he's done based off of one bad year out of twelve? Seriously, Kendall has been a good player for 11 out of 12 years. I'm not going to deny his suckiness this year, but I'm also not going to assume that it will continue (especially when you look at his last month and a half). No, he's been bad for several years. He hasn't had an OPS+ of 100 or better since 2004. No he hasn't. Just because he doesn't hit for power doesn't make him bad. I don't think you understand how few extra bases Kendall hits. ESPN's not working with the sorting, but I'm relatively confident he's the worst in baseball in IsoP, at least bottom 5. Looks like a little more than one every four games. Again, he's not the most ideal player in that he doesn't do EVERYTHING. But he hits for average and knows how to get on base. I'll take that. Especially considering the alternatives. .226/.261 He'll probably hit better than that in the second half, but .226/.261
  9. and I'll wager his OPS will still be below 700 I didn't realize you expected a lot of slugging out of your two hole, especially from a catcher. I've been reading for a while and it wasn't long ago we had Neifi and Macias in there batting in the two hole. It could be worse. Slugging out of your two hole isnt important...if you dont want to score runs. I disagree, OBP is more important than slugging out of your two hole. If Piniella got some balls and batted Soriano where he needs to bat, you leave it up to guys like Theriot, Fontenot and now Kendall to get on base and Lee, Ramirez and Soriano to drive them in. That's a perfect world but I know, I'm just a Cubby fan. His OBP this year is .261, so he better get that up, because he's hitting like a Neifi/Macias love child.
  10. GET THOSE OPTIMISTIC NUMBERS OUT OF HERE! I'm not saying Kendall won't improve from his barely .500 OPS (it would be hard not to), but think about what years he accumulated those numbers. I'm sure Andre Dawson had some pretty good numbers against NL central teams, too, should we sign him?
  11. the future? unless im mistaken he's a free agent after this season. I don't think he's a very good player anymore but this isnt the worst deal hes done. the money isnt an issue for the Cubs and its a buy low chance. there's a pretty damn good chance kendalls obp is .340+ the rest of the season. power? no but as long as hes not an auto out im happy. I'm talking about for this season. How much money can we add before the deadline? Whatever that theoretical number is, this takes a chunk out of it (unless we got the A's to eat a ton of money), making it harder to pick up an actual difference maker, instead of a guy that can't out OPS Izturis. he has about 4 million left. the cubs gained 1.5 mil out of the barrett deal. dumping izturis and/or jones would make the money issue back at zero. Really? Just four million? I was thinking it was something more like six. That makes me feel a bit better. I still would have rather just let Soto try to do his thing because I really think he can outdo what Kendall has done so far. If the Cubs aren't going to do that, I guess we just have to hope that Kendall can get on base a little bit, because we sure as hell know he isn't going to hit for power.
  12. I really don't think that we're going to end up paying too much of the contract. Kendall was basically a sunken cost for the A's, they were going to pay him for the remainder of the season either way, and just decided that they would rather be done with him (and pick up a guy in Blevins that can probably help them in the majors right now). I really can't see us taking on too much of Kendall's contract.

  14. Is this a freaking joke? He has a .542 OPS, this fixes nothing, and unless the A's picked up a ton of money, all this does is hamstring us in the future. Jesus christ why can't the Cubs just let an inexpensive young player fill a freaking role? God dammit.
  15. Yeah, but Burnett's injury history was well-documented and crystal clear. If Hendry had done the same thing many would be killing him, and perhaps rightfully so. Why does Rioccardi get a pass in this respect? He gets a pass because they're the Blue Jays and we're Cub fans. It's hard for me to get too worked up when other gm's are passing out bad contracts.

  17. I think that by the end of the year Marquis will definitely have earned his 7 mil this season. What worries me is that next year he might revert, but because of his contract/good 07, Lou will leave him in the rotation over someone who might give us more value.
  18. I dont have a problem with the Lilly or DeRosa signings, but I have a feeling that Marquis and Soriano are going to eventually make this a disastrous offseason.
  19. I haven't made up my mind yet, will someone start a poll so i can just go with the majority?
  20. excellent typo It wasn't a typo for once :D I hate myself for not remembering where that line comes from
