  1. Such true contrition you are showing, it's remarkable. Well, I'm really only sorry for breaking the board rules. I couldn't care less how sad it made you. Seriously though, let's get back to how punching an ump is as bad as stabbing and beating the innocent again. I'm intrigued.
  2. Ehh, it was a throw away line, I didn't mean to call him [expletive]. I can see how it would come across that way, though. Sorry OMC, you can come back and tell us all how punching an ump is as bad as stabbing and beating the innocent again.
  3. This conversation is over. Run! RUN!
  4. So, no defense of your position other than a fanboy "I wrote big paper over him"? Hmmmm, a person who spent countless hours reading microfilm from 5 different newspapers about all the major incidents of his career and has read six or seven books about the guy vs. you, someone who is uninformed about the topic and is relying on Wikipedia. Even the freaking NY Times sympathized with Cobb! Even the freaking NY TIMES? I'm on your side now. So what if Cobb was beating the handicapped and stabbing the innocent, Babe Ruth punched a guy! PUNCHED HIM. Just kidding, I think you might have mental problems. How informed do you have to be to know that Cobb was a terrible person. Obviously, in this case, not very, since I'm right and you're wrong. And you've spent your entire life garbling up every bit of information you can on the esteemed Mr. Cobb. It's a bit like a case of stockholm syndrome.

  6. First off, Cobb didn't know the guy was handicapped (he had lost a several fingers in an industrial accident), and several of his teammates, including a few teammates who hated him, went into the stands with him after the guy. Second, Cobb only pulled a knife (which was a pocketknife that didn't inflict much damage anyways) after he was struck in the head with a nightstick that split his his head open (the scars of which he carried on his head the rest of his life) Third, Ruth punched several different umpires and assaulted his manager. I don't know which behavior is worse. Are you joking? Cobb knifed a guy who was only defending an innocent man and beat a handicapped heckler, and you're not sure if that is worse than Ruth punching someone? First off, I read that the guy was missing three fingers on one hand, while he was missing the entire hand on his other arm. When fans told him to stop because the man was handicapped, Cobb reportedly said "I don't care if he has no feet!". I'm sure you'll claim he never said that. How you can defend stabbing someone with a pocket knife, because it doesn't do much damage, is ridiculous. Cobb was struck in the head with the nightstick because he was beating someone for no reason. Why are you defending that?
  7. Apparently you didn't, otherwise you would have recognized that fact pattern as being that of the Bambino. You said it was baseball's jesus. So I was trying to think of someone who wasn't a renowned Ahole. My whole point was that baseball's "mythology", much like that of American history myth's, aren't always 100% truth. Ruth isn't demonized 1/100th as much as Cobb is, despite them both being tremendous douchebags. Part of that probably has something to do with the fact that Ruth never knifed a hotel employee who tried to stop him from beating an bellboy. Or jumped into the stands to beat a handicapped heckler.

  9. Everyone know's that Ruth was a terrible person, this isn't even an argument. It still doesn't make Cobb any better.
  10. get him off the streets
  11. As opposed to the darling of so many schoolboys who constantly partook in orgies, got drunk all the time, physically assaulted three umpires, was suspended or fined for inappropriate or vulgar conduct on the field more than a dozen times, was ejected from over 30 games in his career, often played drunk, and once physically attacked and often threatened his manager with violence. You're right, let's excuse Cobb then, other guys were bad too. In an era of racists, Cobb's racism+ was barely above league average. Do you even know who I'm talking about? Does it matter? It could be Jesus Christ himself and it still wouldn't excuse Cobb for being such a terrible person.

  13. So an elevator operator wouldn't take him in the elevator, because it was shut down. So he beat him and then knifed the guy who came over to stop it. Favorite. Player. Ever.
  14. Ignore it? I flat out said he was a racist. That's not ignoring it. If I "deified" a person, I wouldn't admit that they were a douche, a racist, had mental instability, and was an overall jerk. The problem is that you have this image in your head which is just overkill. I mean, he's portrayed as if he's the Grand Wizard of the Klan or something. You still haven't shown anything that separates him from your average white American in terms of racial views at the turn of the last century. Hey, keep insulting me. It's OK. That's not an insult, grow some thicker skin. Is that true or not? Because if it is, there you go.
  15. How in the world can being an unabashed racist not trump your baseball abilities? This is where the whole "you're deifying him" thing comes from. He wasn't a "terrible" racist, sure. He was racist. Often. That's terrible. How you can ignore this is beyond me. Seriously, if it's not muslims or Cobb, you'd have 300 posts. Edit Haha, I'm the one not being objective and being belligerent. Another knee slapper from the great jester of NSBB. i laughed Answer the freaking question.
  16. OK, then why else is Ty Cobb apparently baseball's greatest bigot to you? Why is that the first thing that comes up? Forget the fact that he has the highest BA in history and was one of the game's greatest playmakers. First thing that comes up is "racist!!!!" Why? Because he was a terrible racist and that trumps his baseball ability? This really isn't hard to figure out. When you think of Mike Tyson, do you think "great fighter" or do you think "psychopath"?
  17. Another knee slapper from the great jester of NSBB. i laughed Answer the freaking question. Hahahahahaha, take it easy. I would say that comparing Ty Cobb and Abraham Lincoln as people, based on the fact that they both dropped N-bombs, is pretty loose. Lincoln was a lot more than a terrible person masquerading as a baseball player.
  18. The original "i have black friends". I'm sure Cobb was George Wallace's hero Why is Cobb the poster boy for racism in baseball to you people? Based on what? Because he used the N-word? Then I suppose by that logic Abraham Lincoln should be the poster boy for racism in the White House? How was Cobb any more racist than other people of his time? You guys are such scholars on the man. Enlighten me. what do you mean, "you people"?
  19. The original "i have black friends".
  20. CRANK DAT SOULJA BOI WHO DOOOOOOOOOO IT DOOOOOOOOOO IT
  21. just like the 2004 title game, right? just like we were supposed to watch OSU demolish UF last year. We won't beat LSU if we play them. Well, I say that based on Bradford's road performances this year (terrible). If he plays well in Lubbock tonight, I might amend that statement.
  22. Remember that autistic kid who hit six three pointers in a high school basketball game? why is he playing qb for notre dame
  23. just kidding, i buy ensure
  24. Don't you have some Ensure you need to be drinking, or something? boost, biotch
