  1. This guy was born 20 years after Fidel. At the time of the revolution, he was a young teenager. If he was still on the island, my guess is Fidel was busy with other things to bother meeting young ballplayers. He signed with Cleveland in 65, and I assume was out of Cuba by then. So, if he met Fidel, it would have had to have been in the middle of the revolution or just after Fidel took power and was in the middle of completely overhauling the country. I'd bet they never met, regardless of how big a baseball fan Fidel was. you think it's more or less likely than roast meeting bill gates?
  2. Me too. I doubt there was a bigger Patterson supporter on here when he was a cub.
  3. i like having separate forums for transactions and minors and the draft and polls - it keeps things from getting too cluttered. I just don't think there's enough actual baseball talk on this board that doesn't deal with BDB's pajamas to necessitate two different subforums.
  4. I really think it would make sense to just have a "baseball discussion" forum. With a forum for polls, a forum for the minors, one for the draft, one for transactions, one subforum for all the general baseball talk - cubs related or not - is enough to hold all the relevant discussion.
  5. I see. I'm definitely not a fan of the new forum divisions either. And what would make your highnesses happy? :write: no useless subforums
  6. dabryan blanton was a track star masquerading as a RB. Charles is legit at both, though he's nothing but a change of pace guy in the nfl
  7. I don't see him putting up Deron's numbers. I think deron is the better player. What makes Deron better? Rose is quicker at the same size (6'3" 205 vs. 6'3" 210). Rose is a better finisher. Rose has better court vision. Rose is being compared favorably to Kidd. While Deron is a good passer, he's not Kidd in his prime. I think Deron has a slightly better jumpshot, but I think if you put Rose on this year's Utah Jazz, you probably can't tell them apart aside from "possibly" turnovers in favor of Williams. You think Rose is averaging 19 and 10.5 on 51% from the floor and 39% from three in his rookie season in the nba, even though he averaged 14 and 4.7 on 48% and 37% in college?
  8. what if we're not interested in boo coming
  9. He was born in Cuba? Woa. Wonder if he ever met Fidel? hahahah, what? Fidel Castro was the long-time dictator in Cuba until this year. He is what they call a communist. Thanks, captain. But his statement would be akin to me saying "Well, Roast is from America - I wonder if he's ever met Bill Gates" Cuba's population was under 10 million in the 1970s and Castro was a notorious baseball fan. yea those cubans all know each other it's not crazy to wonder if a cuban born baseball player had ever met castro. That's like wondering if a major leaguer had met George Bush (many have).
  10. don't apostrophe plurals btw unless you meant for this thread to be weirdly inappropriate
  11. [deleted] You honestly might be my favorite poster - despite having just 25 posts. Thanks for not being afraid to speak the truth. can somebody PM the original post? It was a picture of someone that looked like Sandberg lying naked on what looked like a hotel bed

  14. Well what other forum would you have it go into? Cubs discussions? Lesser teams? Rants? Transactions? Now that there is no "baseball discussions" forum, we are kinda stuck when it comes to threads like these. it was more of a statement about how stupid the forum divisions are.
  15. I meant vouch (I think people got that). But sadly, I was on a loptop, with no autocorrect. The worst part, it took me a solid 3 minutes on dictionary.com to figure out that there is no "g" in the word at all, and that I have been pronouncing it wrong my entire life. Awesome. Wait, you've been pronouncing "vouch" with a G? I'm really curious as to what this sounded like.
  16. I think his vert was 32 inches, which isn't brutal or anything. He won't be a first rounder but he'll be good value in the second round.
  17. His knee is fine, it's his hammy that has teams bothered. His pro day was fine, aside from relatively slow 40 times. The "blowup" afterwards was overblown, I saw the entire interview and all he did was say that the medical staff misdiagnosed him (they did).
  18. when i want to talk baseball history, i think of the social forum oh yeah, 5714 Ks will never be topped
  19. i never saw him take flight, for one.
  20. I would be shocked if Chris ever becomes a franchise player. At least a franchise player on a good team. Hell he barely was able to win 20 games in college his freshman year.
  21. Nothing special, but not bad either. I don't see how that furthers either argument with such a small sample size. That's a smoking .649 OPS. It's bad.
  22. Cubs discussions has about one s too many
