  1. saying that the front office has "given up" invalidates literally everything else you can possibly post
  2. If this was trying I'm very scared. Only an idiot would think they actually tried to field winning teams the past two years. No one does? They "tried" to put the team in the best position for the future after deciding it wasn't possible to win a world series with what they were given.
  3. what buster olney tweet did u get that from bro
  4. i mean, i admit i havent been following these playoff races closely, but didn't hamilton have like 4 games in a week where he came in and pinch ran, stole a couple bases, scored on a sacrifice and won them the game?
  5. Well re-signing Aramis and signing Wilson wasn't even possible under Ricketts's payroll. Right. So what was the point of "sign Aramis and CJ Wilson and animal Sanchez might have come here" that you posted like 7 minutes ago? That the reason the team needed to be torn down had nothing to do with the way to rebuild a team and everything to do with Tom Ricketts being the 28th-29th best owner in baseball? The team didn't have to be torn down because the roster was expensive, old, sucked and was going to be bad for a long time, but those guys were all leaving eventually, might as well kickstart it since the owner isn't giving the front office any money to play with.

  7. That "re-sign Aramis, sign CJ Wilson and then get animal Sanchez," like you just posted and have talked about in the past, wasn't a possibility?
  8. I believe last time we had this discussion it was things like well sign CJ Wilson and Aramis and maybe Anibel Sanchez doesn't refuse to sign with a [expletive] sandwich major league team. As Mojo stated though, we couldn't afford that because reasons. We sign CJ wilson (we all know he wasn't coming here) and re-sign Aramis and what money are we signing animal Sanchez with? Hand wave it away with "REASONS" all you want but this is the reality.
  9. I don't see how anything productive could have come out of trying to buy that 2012 team know contention. I mean the last time we had this discussion you had people saying things like "well sign CJ Wilson and Aramis Ramirez and it's done!"
  10. uhh, no one? When has anyone even debated that You just said: ...seemingly as if some people had been advocating the former. I guess I just took it the wrong way. Im saying that was the two options the front office faced. You can suck with your old, expensive, bad roster and lose 100 games and get nowhere or you can suck with a bunch of fill ins, trade the old guys for whatever you can get, lose 100 games but be making incremental progress. Those weren't the only options though, unless you think everyone is like Sanchez and didn't want to sign with a terrible team. I dont think anyone of significance would, especially since we weren't going to toss a soriano-esque contract at them.

  13. Meaning 1 out of 11 "core pieces" were acquired through trading the cancerous vets and 1 out of 11 acquired from being really bad at the major league level. The point isnt that the core was acquired by trading off soriano, soto, whoever, it's that they weren't going to be able to add pieces with an old, expensive, bad roster. You can suck with Zambrano, Dempster, Garza, etc, or you can suck without them while acquiring something you think might help in the future. Why do you think Anibal Sanchez went to Detroit instead of Chicago? Maybe because Detroit is competing for a World Series and the cubs are trying not to lose 100 games.
  14. You're right, definitely not mad
  15. Highway to the Erik-zone
  16. I said "feelings hurt," not mad. Of course, since you couldn't successfully parse out a single like, 10-word sentence, maybe you are mad.
  17. Lmao are your feelings hurt? Poor guy. Maybe if you could have stopped yourself from acting like an authority on a subject you haven't paid attention to for at least two years, you could have avoided degrading yourself so publicly. This is what I was talking about from the very beginning. The guy was clearly stating that the cubs were treating this like a scenario where they had to shed themselves of this nonsense roster before progressing, rightly or wrongly. But because you just couldnt stand a post being made that didn't term it how your limited understanding wanted it termed, you got all excited and made a fool of yourself, per usual.
  18. I think you might literally be the only person in this thread using the term ''fire sale." Just call it what it is, a concerted effort to shed as many assets as possible and to acquire as many sheddable assets as possible. You're pompously droning on and on about things you clearly haven't been paying attention to, its pathetic.
  19. undoubtedly Moving 7 players over 2.5 seasons just doesn't strike me as a fire sale. well yeah, when you ignore 200 roster decisions and focus only on 7 trades I can see how that could happen
  20. When Sammy Sosa injured himself sneezing, why didn't he tell police that he was injured fighting off a gang of ninjas
  21. undoubtedly
  22. lmao x2
  23. 72 percent of 2012's cubs roster is no longer on the 40-man. if that doesn't count as a purge to you, well, i dont know what to say.
