  1. I'm not a soccer fan at all, but I was on the edge of my seat from the second half on despite not having any particular rooting interest. That game was an absolute joy to watch. The chances of me watching soccer again before the next World Cup are close to zero, and there's no guarantee I'll even watch any of the World Cup next time around, but I will definitely remember this game. brother NOW is the time to get into it! Club soccer is outrageously fun. The pregame shows are great and are so low key compared to american pregames that last 4 hours and have 25 hosts. If you pick a premier league side to support the games are all over by the early afternoon at the latest and they all just take two hours. You'll never go back. Plus the World Cup is coming to the US in 26, so you get 3 1/2 years to get locked in before you can watch prime Mbappe set every record possible.
  2. jed really signed boxburger and took the rest of the day off
  3. a box burger? what does my ex wife have to do with this just kidding folks, she's dead
  4. lets horsefeathering gooooooooooo
  5. I DON'T ... POST if only. just kidding.
  6. because the stated goal of every professional sports franchise is to win games, but for this particular professional sports franchise, that's not exactly a priority The stated goal and actual goal are quite different. I don't believe the Pirates, Orioles, A's, etc. have any goal of actually winning The orioles are probably actually trying a little bit but regardless it’s embarrassing that the cubs are in this grouping
  7. i guess there's three options the owners dont have any money or wont allocate it jed is afraid to spend or just sucks at making offers top FAs look at our roster and how our owners treat the team and dont want to come to chicago i'd rather not waste time on swanson if this is how it's gonna go. Just do another year of development and hope to get a competent FO in at a later date. what's the point in committing 200 mil to swanson if we're going to act like the pirates otherwise
  8. you know that saying about scared money?
  9. "I was told to apologize. I did and was told I was forgiven and that team stuff stays on the inside. the world cup is still being played and gregg is at meetings telling everyone what a lazy [expletive] i was."
  10. Sounds extraordinarily lucky, send me whatever you’re using hopefully it's thorazine
  11. the new york times article really made it sound like he was pretty sick over there.
  12. he tweeted this and died? damn. i guess go out doing what you love. why does his brother think he was murdered? I mean I know why I guess I just mean what evidence is there of foul play other than a possible coincidence. Many people are over there actively protesting, but the government wanted to murder an american journalist for wearing a pride shirt 3 weeks ago? Seems unlikely
  13. the dutch call of that goal is gonna be a must-hear
  14. every time someone says "if lebron james played soccer!!!!" i think of how modric would eat his lunch for 90 minutes and laugh
  15. dansby's sister plays for the chicago nwsl team? seems like it's written in the stars
  16. any relation to wade boggs?
  17. this reminded me that the other day i had one of the espn morning shows on and Greenberg had to read a tweet that included the word "finna" and he pronounced it "fine-uhh" and everyone roasted him and he just sat there like he had never heard the word finna in his entire life.
  18. That may go down as the most befuddling turn of events in my Cubs-fan life. It was like for one year, with one guy, we somehow got a hold of the pixie dust ourselves for once. Most of our lineup was on that dust that year. Cubs OBP went 333, 354, 333 from 07-09. 08 was unlike anything we had experienced before with the whole lineup working counts and taking walks. In the regular season, of course. it sucks the postseason was canceled that year. And coming right off the postseason cancellations of 03 and 04. Glad baseball survived.
  19. most catchers who are bad at the art of catching definitely get better once they turn 30, leave the team of their youth and all their familiar surroundings, move to the middle of nowhere and cash in on life-changing money. I expect him to win 5 MVPs
  20. i can explain it! because you can't spend what the owners won't give you, and the owners have a set amount they are willing to give you. hope that clears it up!
  21. Holy horsefeathers...maybe we could get Varsho or someone else good to play CF in return for Thompson if the premium for pitchers is that high. It would take Thompson plus 3-4 more prospects yo get Varsho. We just need to get a third team involved
  22. always so fun when brazil hits this gear and you start seeing things like neymar running 115 yards with the ball in his shirt
  23. the man dont miss, two perfectly struck, perfectly placed piss missiles, both times surrounded by defenders
  24. 8 world cup goals for mbappe and he's not even 24
