the thing that gives me pause is that he lost out at dortmund too and under the other manager at Chelsea. For sure getting anywhere but Chelsea would be good. Did he lose out at Dortmund? I thought they did the thing they've done with other players before which was basically drop him once it became clear he wasn't staying at Dortmund beyond the year. Lampard is incompetent so I'm not particularly worried about that either. I do get the concern, though I think that's kinda part of the game now for attackers of a certain vintage. You get too good to go to anywhere but Champions League clubs, but most of them are trying to find playing time for 7 good attackers and you have to go supernova to be an every game player in a lot of cases. he did spend a lot of time as a "super sub" at dortmund but i believe most of that was under tuchel so ...

It’s not just sports. The saudis know the current socio-political situation in the US and how conservatives (who don’t hold the White House, senate, or house, but still have managed to control the country despite that) will latch onto LIV because of its destiny as a grievance culture war thing. Now the saudis are endearing themselves to the power party while also playing into the political divide. And all it cost them was money that they have an unlimited supply of. Nice gig

We’re splitting hairs right? Ownership directives is a budget constraint to me. I try to do whatever I can to remove them from the equation. Not when ownership is straight up lying about how much money they have to spend. It's all part of the equation. If I clearly have the income to spend X on a new car and could do so without overextending myself at all or preventing myself from making other significant purchases by doing so, but instead I choose to limit myself to 60% of X as what I want to spend, my budget constraint isn't 60% of X. It's still X. I'm just choosing to limit myself to 60% of X to spend on a car. yeah but he's talking about the constraints that ownership puts on the GM. you can spend whatever you want on a car, but if you tell your kid they can only spend 60%, they can only spend 60% -

You've almost certainly followed this more closely than me, but do the stories about Boehly being super hands on and insisting on American sports-style trades appear to be accurate? The english soccer internet seems to be having a lot of fun with it either way. As for Pulisic, Juventus would be an improvement though it also has that mega-club problem where attackers hardly ever last more than 2 years unless they go supernova(see: Chelsea blowing up their attack *again*). i think what's happening is marina left, and her and abramovich were always way more focused on never "losing" on a deal. So for instance with lukaku, they spent 100 mil, no way in hell would they have loaned him to Inter. But none of that is Boehly's money, so he's coming in and i guess trying to give tuchel a roster he wants, which includes getting rid of deadwood and players tuchel doesnt favor. I think he's less concerned with "winning" deals that Marina brokered and more interested in just getting in some players and getting rid of others, hence the "trades" but yeah it definitely looks like an american dude coming and being like "when is the draft"

so chelsea have zeroed in on de ligt as their top CB option it looks like, and apparently are offering timo werner or pulisic to help bring the price down. juventus is said to be higher on pulisic.
