  1. gregg can't come back right
  2. i know everyone is telling the version of the story that is most favorable to them so you gotta take it all with a grain of salt, but i will say that danielle reyna's statement to the athletic seemed a little more believable to me than straight up helicopter parents trying to take down the coach who wouldn't play their son ultimately, if gio just keeps his head down, it will all come out in the wash, but all the drama needs to stop now, for his sake
  3. so it was claudio and his wife, as expected, who dropped the berhalter stuff. hopefully this doesn't affect Gio's role in the squad longterm ... he fucked up because he's a kid, there's no excuse for how the adults are handling this stuff
  4. i horsefeathering knew this horsefeathers was gio related
  5. Well he said he was going to retire with Dignity, so I can only assume one of the 11 starters on that club is named Dignity. one of the DPs
  6. the sporting KC links is the funniest thing about this. he was really thinking about it? Kansas City? I mean I love KC but im poor.
  7. the only thing about haaland is that he's doing it for city. you're right he is just a funny looking dude who works hard and bags goals. hard to hate him. im consoling myself with the fact that 1.) city aren't currently winning the league and 2.) they likely will win the league with him or without him anyway
  8. how much are we willing to commit to a guy two desperate teams have talked or are talking themselves out of signing?
  9. ill be honest, i couldn't care less who pays what or how anyone wins (except the cubs, go buy em all) billionaires giving these [expletive] 26 year old republicans 400 million to play baseball games no one watches or cares about doesn't make me feel good. i dont care if the mets win spending 500 million or the As win spending 12 million, they all make too much money like if you met carlos correa the human and he was like hey i have 800 million in the bank you'd be like horsefeathers this guy, but because a billionaire gives him the money im supposed to be like yeah go off king. horsefeathers them all
  10. for all the criticism of PKs, the fact that they can still make teenage dick heads cry has to mean something
  11. lmao this just unlocked more memories of that loss. One PK went right down the middle but not too high. I dove to my right and kicked my left foot up and knocked the ball off the crossbar. Ref said it crossed the line though I never understood how. Another one I got too amped up and guessed right (dove left) but it was a shitty pen and I landed on it with my ribs and squirted it out into the goal. Ribs were so sore the rest of the time it hurt just getting off the ground. We went 13 rounds and I think the final was 4-3, it was our third game in three days in brutal oklahoma 100 degree heat and no one had any gas left. Lost to our GOD DAMN rivals too. I cried in the locker room for like 45 minutes at least lol. perhaps appropriately, i dont remember any of the saves (most were just outright misses) but i do distinctly remember two of the 4 i let in lol.
  12. yeah i guess that's true. for the record im fine with PKs, i don't have the same issue with them that people who hate them do. I don't like the penalties but I don't see better options. They are worse at youth level where someone has to be the player that misses - brutal for children. I played keeper in high school and missed my one PK (off the right post) in a tourney game we ultimately lost after 13 tries. Wanted to die then and still want to die today. It's only been 22 years or so.
  13. isnt that the point? not for me. you would give one team an unfair advantage for the 90 minutes of play. basically, you're starting the game with a 1/2 goal lead. yeah i guess that's true. for the record im fine with PKs, i don't have the same issue with them that people who hate them do.
  14. this would hugely impact how the teams play though - not sure that would be good. Note the hated "away goals" rule that was just abandoned. isnt that the point?
  15. I'm not saying it's better and obviously any idea I come up with is gonna be worse than what the world's soccer minds have come up with. I just mean people are always complaining about PKs because they happen outside the run of play, and I'm just trying to illustrate how it's not that easy to come up with a scenario that resembles on-field soccer and still gets you a winner without having to sit and watch Chris Birdman Anderson brick 45 dunks in a row. I do kinda like the "PKs happen" pregame idea, at least the game ends on the field
  16. I get why people don't like seeing a match end after 120 minutes with penalties, but i don't know a better way to end it. If you go much beyond 120 you're gonna just have a bunch of corpses out there before too long. Someone once mentioned doing alternating set pieces until someone scores (think knockout in basketball) but that could still end with a bunch of fatigued players running 35 corner routines in a row until someone just dies of exhaustion. maybe i could get behind alternating set pieces as long as all or some of them were in that range where you can either take a shot at goal or play them into the box and hope for a header or chaos goal, might be more strategy than PKs. But i guess at the same time maybe you're just doing a harder version of PKs with no real benefit other than being different?
  17. I'm not a soccer fan at all, but I was on the edge of my seat from the second half on despite not having any particular rooting interest. That game was an absolute joy to watch. The chances of me watching soccer again before the next World Cup are close to zero, and there's no guarantee I'll even watch any of the World Cup next time around, but I will definitely remember this game. brother NOW is the time to get into it! Club soccer is outrageously fun. The pregame shows are great and are so low key compared to american pregames that last 4 hours and have 25 hosts. If you pick a premier league side to support the games are all over by the early afternoon at the latest and they all just take two hours. You'll never go back. Plus the World Cup is coming to the US in 26, so you get 3 1/2 years to get locked in before you can watch prime Mbappe set every record possible.
  18. jed really signed boxburger and took the rest of the day off
  19. a box burger? what does my ex wife have to do with this just kidding folks, she's dead
  20. lets horsefeathering gooooooooooo
  21. I DON'T ... POST if only. just kidding.
  22. because the stated goal of every professional sports franchise is to win games, but for this particular professional sports franchise, that's not exactly a priority The stated goal and actual goal are quite different. I don't believe the Pirates, Orioles, A's, etc. have any goal of actually winning The orioles are probably actually trying a little bit but regardless it’s embarrassing that the cubs are in this grouping
  23. i guess there's three options the owners dont have any money or wont allocate it jed is afraid to spend or just sucks at making offers top FAs look at our roster and how our owners treat the team and dont want to come to chicago i'd rather not waste time on swanson if this is how it's gonna go. Just do another year of development and hope to get a competent FO in at a later date. what's the point in committing 200 mil to swanson if we're going to act like the pirates otherwise
  24. you know that saying about scared money?
