  1. Well, like I said before, whether it's a three way deal or a Piazza type thing, Prior could be the centerpiece of a Cabrera deal if he can stay healthy get rolling until the trade deadline.
  2. And they would laugh and then hang up the phone. I guess that depends on how good EPatt is and can be. People around here already have him as the stater in 07 or 08, and he has put up really nice numbers in the minors. The Marlins def. will not find a deal that includes as much major league ready talent as that. What source do you have says no team would not offer more than that? Yeah, those guys are close to or are major league ready, but their ceilings are not very high. The Marlins aren't going to trade one of the best young players in the game for a few average ballplayers. Besides, they don't need EPatt. They have Dan Uggla at 2b. Realistically, an offer for Cabrera would have to be something like Pie, Marshall, Pawelek, and Moore. I thought they weren't sold on Uggla as the long term answer because of his defense. You're trade idea isn't bad at all. I don't really like prospects in the lower minor leagues with high cielings as much as most people, especially when they are Cubs prospects. I think there is as good a chance Pawalek and Moore amount to nothing as them having better careers than Marshall and Murton.

  4. Does anyone know how much teams collect and how much they typically pay for insurance for players? I think they collect over 90% when a player is injured. Depending on how much they pay for each player to have this insurance and what exactly it covers, it's probably a flat out lie to say the Cubs are or have spent anywhere close to 100 million a year on players.
  5. If I were the Cubs, I would offer Marshall, Murton, EPatt and Ohman.
  6. Soriano or Zito would be good guys to trade for now, with the extension being part of the deal. They are both going to be in extremely high demand if they go to free agency, and a trade not only assures that you get him but maybe you can sign him for a little less money than he could potentially get as a free agent.
  7. I want to see Marmol get another start next week, then judge where he should be. I think he's earned that.
  8. The Rays might. The Royals are just a slightly older version of the Cubs with a worse farm system. Maybe it is worse overall, but I like the Royals top 5 prospects much better than ours.
  9. First game was very early in 98 I wanna say, shortly after Wood's 20K game. It was against San Francisco and like 0-0 into the 10th when the Giants won it in dramatic fashion. It was a foreshadowing of things to come. Most memorable was Prior outdueling Maddux at home in the playoffs in 2003 and doing the tomahawk chop and chant.
  10. I don't want Bynum in the outfield. He's Dubois-esqe out there and that's the nicest way I could put it. Right now I'd kill for Dubois out there. I think they should find out if Henry Rodriguez is still playing or finally retired.
  11. I believe this guy throws low to mid-90's. That's very good. One way you can look at it is that he's had to devote so much time and training to football that he hasn't had a very good chance to hone his baseball talent, and if you believe that, he could turn out to be a very good pitcher.
  12. The Royals and Devil Rays will win a World Series before the Cubs.

  14. I've always dismissed Mike North's accusations that Dusty is a racist, but when you think about the comments he has made and add to that the fact that unexplained playing time distributions like this exist all over the diamond; it's hard not to consider it.
  15. They probably did...as they were thinking about what a good idea it is to get Bynum more ABs.
  16. Now there's a moron that cost himself a lot of money! I don't want to change the thread, but I'll be surprised if Redick cost himself a penny with that DUI. Things like that don't affect the top picks.
  17. I wouldn't worry about Z. I know we see Prior and Wood go on the DL a lot, and deadarm probably would be something that would put one of them on the DL, but Z will fight through it, even pitching well as he does. He always has.
  18. I showed the stats. Get out of denile. You picked and chose numbers to represent your argument. That is not showing the stats. What I did was equivalent to a prosecutor using the murder weapon, video tape of the crime and confession as evidence for a murder conviction.
  19. I showed the stats. Get out of denile.
  20. Finally someone who accepts it for what it is. Now, I just proved my original point pages back that Elia is getting too much credit and Cubs coaching is getting too much blame because he hasn't made any big improvements as a hitter; he's just slightly improved to mediocrity and started going for bunts and infield hits more and possibly refined some of his running techniques or workouts to increase baserunning ability and speed.
  21. You're standards are low though. If you have a rotation of the league average ERA at every spot, you don't have a good rotation and likely will not be in the playoffs.
  22. Looks like one was a line drive single to right. Nope. One yesterday, one the day before. i can't even figure out what your point is in this thread. you seem to be saying that bunting is the key to corey's success this year, even though it's been shown that he bunted successfully at the same rate in 2004 (when he wasn't very good). The point is that his numbers are poor when swinging at the ball. wow...just when i thought you couldn't make any less sense. Those are a little lower now.

  24. So, he's a 3/4 only on select teams? I can't believe you are even arguing this. What you're saying is that Scott Elarton is a No. 1. How am I saying that? You're saying that Prior's 3.80 ERA is the makings of a 3/4 when the numbers clearly do not support that claim. Scott Elarton's ERA over that timeframe is over 5. That's why bad pitching rotations are not taken into account because guys like Scott Elarton are No. 1's on those teams. They just dilute the average. Look at any good rotation, and you will find two guys with lower ERAs than 3.80.
