  1. I wouldn't make that deal. Fontenot and DeRosa have been pretty much the same player this year. Fontenot's not going to hit .207 all year long, and with his walk and power rates he should improve as the season goes along and some singles start to fall in. If you trade him for DeRosa, you're committed to trying to find a new second baseman after 2009 with limited funds available. Considering that we're not even sure yet if DeRosa would be an upgrade over Fontenot this year, it would be a bad gamble IMO. That's kind of what I think, too. Why couldn't we just hold on to the guy? Imagine having DeRo instead of Miles? Same overall financial committment and probably a Type A for DeRosa. I know not having a backup SS would suck, but it's not like Miles is that much better than DeRo/Fontenot would have been at SS for, what, 10 games. And if Theriot were to miss a significant amount of time, we could have signed a Rey Rnez type guy to just play a good SS. I hope the 3 Indians pitchers we got pan out. What about Wells and Miles for DeRosa and another lower level Indians prospect?
  2. 1. Lee HAS to be gone after next year. Would a Hoff/Fox platoon work? Would ARAM move to 1st in 2011 if Vitters is ready (he won't be). Maybe do the Hoff/Fox platoon for a year and then move ARAM to 1st. 2. I think Lilly will pitch this year and next and then the Cubs will let him go. Hopefully Ted can keep it up for the next 18 months. 3. Harden will be Hendry's biggest decision this offseason. Maybe a decent base with a lot of fairly reachable incentives? Let's hope it comes to worrying about losing him as that will mean he has a good and healthy year. 4. Kevin Gregg. Hopefully he is just good enough to get Type A without costing the Cubs a ton of games. Let Marmol close in the playoffs. Offer Gregg arby and even if he takes it, doesn't get a huge pay increase to come back and be the same guy next year.
  3. Fontenot for DeRosa? Would that be enough for the Indians? Would that be giving up on Fonty too early for the Cubs? Would losing Fonty push Theriot into a tailspin because he'd miss his best pal?
  4. 1. Hanley Ramirez-perfect blend of speed and power. Average SS, but a premium position for at least the next 5-7 years. If he has to move to 3B, still a great player. 2. Evan Longoria-great 3B, great power, should be awesome for a long time 3. Albert Pujols-best hitter maybe ever, even though he's good at 1B, his position hurts him a bit 4. Jose Reyes-good SS, lack of HR power could be concerning as he gets older, but still a game changer 5. Matt Weiters--premium position, if he pans out, could be a better defending straight version of Mike Piazza
  5. Agreed, but if they gave him 4 games just to flex a little muscle and be consistent with other off the field problems, it would make sense. Anything more than that would just be Goodell being a jerk because he doesn't like the guy. It will be interesting to see which owner gambles on him. I would think it would have to be a big market team with excess fans to burn. A team like Jacksonville with no fans might not be able to risk the PR hit that they would get.
  6. Would rather it be a skill goal then a mistake by the Hawks that led to it. Khabi still has to make that save. He wasn't screened much.
  7. Bradley still looks like my grandpa out there. That's good.
  8. If it means that Walker rides the luxury box pine, I'm all for it.
  9. I wouldn't call them dumb anymore, they have put together a farm system and base of young talent that I would kill for. Just because they put it together doesn't mean they won't trade it like a bunch of idiots. John Danks for Brandon McCarthy, Gonzalez for pretty much nothing, even Volquez for Hamilton looks bad because their pitching has sucked forever.
  10. Kosuke is a freaking machine right now. Let's hope he can keep this up...
  11. LOL at the Padres. This 1 game could change our pythag record by like 5 games. Hahaha. I bet Peavy is drinking himself to death in the clubhouse right now.
  12. QFT. Hopefully Scales keeps it up for the next 2 months with Aramis out and they just decide to cut bait with Miles. It's nice that we don't have to make this decision soon. I still think Wells or Cotts will be sent down when Z comes back, not one of these position players.
  13. Gonzalez/Peavy would probably cost you DLee (plus cash), Marshall, Vitters, Castillo, Soto, and Marmol. Done and done. Maybe try and give them someone besides Castillo so he can maybe come up and take Soto's spot eventually. Soriano Fuku Ramirez Gonzalez Bradley Theriot Fontenot Hill Peavy Zambrano Lilly Harden Dempster
  14. That's pretty bad when Ryan Theriot is the power bat in your lineup. Oh and flip flop Fonts and Scales, you can't have two lefties hitting back to back. [-X Haha. I just couldn't make myself put Bobby Scales 6th in a Cubs lineup, especially on a good team, no matter how good he has been so far.
  15. Yes, he should be suspended at least 2 games, that's what they gave Bradley for much less obvious contact. This has to be a 2 way street. Along those same lines, but reversed, do you think Jermaine Dye will be suspended for throwing his helmet down yesterday? The helmet bounced and then hit the ump in the chest.
  16. Lineup prediction: Freel LF Theriot SS Fuku CF Lee 1B Hoff RF Fontenot 3B Scales 2B Hill C
  17. Kind of a bad way to end the streak. 2 walks (1 intentional) and reaching base on a FC. Sucks for him. I'm sure he was hoping for the end to come on an 0-5 with 5Ks or something like that.
  18. Percentage of baserunners driven in........ 04/06 - 05/12 BDI LOB RBI% Fukudome 13 25 0.342 K. Hill 5 11 0.313 Ramirez 12 29 0.293 D Lee 12 46 0.207 Hoffpauir 8 32 0.200 Fontenot 12 51 0.190 Theriot 12 51 0.190 Soriano 12 55 0.179 Bradley 4 31 0.114 Johnson 4 31 0.114 Soto 4 46 0.080 Miles 3 39 0.071 Gathright 0 6 0.000 Scales 0 4 0.000 Freel 0 0 0.000 CUBS 105 492 0.176 That is just pathetic. Everyone except Fuku, Ramirez, and Hill just sucks.
  19. To cover up your jean shorts. He's not a Cardinals fan...
  20. The "Well" giveth, the "well" taketh away.
  21. This whole situation is FAR inferior to the Aubrey Huff/Joba situation from Sunday. I can't find a video, but it was awesome. Apparently Joba pumped his fist a bit too strong last year after striking out Huff and Huff hit a bomb off of him Sunday and did the same thing like 3 times while rounding the bases. It was awesome.
  22. Based on what? He hit them well in the minors. Since 2005: vs. RHP (1024 AB): .296/.358/.516 vs. LHP (379 AB): .293/.338/.509 Where did you get those stats? I looked around everywhere, but couldn't figure out how to get minor league splits. http://www.minorleaguesplits.com/ That address isn't just a clever name, I guess... Good info!
  23. Got all of the college names And nicknames. Got 118 on the pro teams. Somehow missed the Bucks, Atlanta Thrashers, and 2 other hockey teams.
