  1. Winner. Just wait until Soriano goes into a slump and Ramirez misses 2 weeks with a hammy tweak. And Theriot and Fuku remember they aren't really good. Or, maybe Geo and Milton aren't .100 hitters. They better not be. Unfortunately, there's also a good chance that Lee and Fontenot really do suck.

  3. I'm glad he's such a man of his principles, but he's only giving up about $62,000 if he drops his suspension (probably about $40K after taxes). If you make 100K, it would be paying a $617 fine. Whoopity doo. Bite your tongue. Where I come from that's 61 lap dances. When you put it that way, that's like 61,000 lap dances for Milton. Appeal away, Milton!
  4. Not really. Gameday using "lined out" loosely again I see.

  6. If you get suspended at work for 2 days, no pay, but you don't think you did what you're accused of doing would you just take the punishment because maybe your company wouldn't get some big account otherwise? If he legitimately thinks he didn't do anything, he's got every right to appeal. If he's too hurt to play, why not fly to NY, do the appeal, and find out the decision then? And he isn't getting punished by his employer. That comparison makes no sense. He's not getting in trouble by his employer (the Cubs), he's getting in trouble with their boss (like if you got in trouble with the government at your job). I know that my employer would want me to take care of my problem with the government swiftly and with as little problem to the company as possible (especially considering his contract is guaranteed and paid by the Cubs, not MLB).
  7. Why are people so hung up on the appeal story? He doesn't think he deserved suspension, he doesn't want to lose 2 days of pay, there's nothing wrong with him fighting it. There are going to be plenty of times the rest of the year where sitting for a couple days will more or less be a necessity. But basically he's hurting the team to do it. Will there be a time where he needs 2 games off? Yes, but we all know the best he's going to do with the appeal is get 1 game off. So, he's essentially hurting the team for 1/162 of his $10 million salary. Way to see you've changed, Milton. I tried to talk myself into this guy being a good addition, but the injuries and weirdness are just going to be too much, I'm afraid. Guy better put up a .900 OPS if we have to deal with all of this garbage.
  8. I don't quite hate Hendry with the passion you do, but this past offseason has been brutal for him so far. Gregg ($4.2 mill) over Wood (likely would have taken arbitration and gotten 1/$8 or $10) Miles (2/$5) over DeRosa (1/$5 and likely Type A status) Bradley (3/$30) over Hoffpauir (more likely Fox as a bench guy from $500K) Getting nothing for Rich Hill after he could have help get us Roberts last year. Getting Heilman (who has been good) for Pie and Cedeno (who could have gotten us much more last year). Essentially releasing a very average Jason Marquis just to save $5 million (after taking Vizcaino's release into account) Signing a useless Joey Gathright. Overall, we could have Wood, DeRosa, Hoffpauir, Marquis, and Fox on the team instead of Gregg, Miles, Bradley, Cotts (because Marshall would be in the pen), and Gathright for about the same amount of cash. (about $23 million for the good guys and about $19 for the bad guys--$21.5 if you count next year's guarantee for Miles).
  9. I assume K. Hill gets the start and this could be the start of a Zambrano-Hill relationship for the rest of the season? When Soto and Z are out there together, the amount of awesomeness seems to overpower the universe and they both become bad. Go Cubs!
  10. This is SO reminding me of the year when the "baby Bulls" played the Wizards in the first round in their first playoff appearance in forever. They won the first 2 at home (game 1 was the Nocioni game), lost 2 on the road and then were down 15 in the 4th in game 5, then Jannero Pargo scored like 15 in a row to tie it but Gilbert Arenas hit the buzzer beater to win game 5 for the Wiz. Bulls then lost game 6 on the road and the series 4-2. Unfortunately, this could be the fate of the Hawks as well.
  11. I have been impressed with his eye, but sooner or later, pitchers are going to notice he can't hit right now and will start throwing strikes. This will lead to one of 2 things: 1. He starts getting meatballs and mashes them. 2. He really can't hit and stops walking because he goes down on 3 or 4 pitches right down the middle. If he's healthy, more than likely it will be 1, but if he's not, it could get ugly fast.
  12. Seriously, Milton? 1 hit, 7Ks, a robust OPS of .441. Looking like my grandpa chasing after fly balls in RF. Couple that with missing 4 full games and most of 2 others and a 2 game suspension because he can't control himself and you have yourself a $10 million right fielder. Awesome. Glad we determined that DeRosa was the problem last year and couldn't produce enough to warrant RF on a consistent basis or at least sharing it with Hoffpauir. This guy is the reason why we have Aaron Miles, too. Thanks Milton. Now go earn that contract so I don't have to hate you Todd Hundley style.
  13. Can't Aaron Miles just tear his ACL already?
  14. Bradley looks like an old man out there. Cliff Floyd moved better than this clownbag. I'm sick of him already. If we wanted bad defense, no hitting, and a bad attitude, why not just sign Moises Alou or Jeff Kent. DeRosa, Wood, and Cedeno>>>>>>>>>>>>>Bradley, Gregg, and Miles
  15. 100% buyer guarantee. It's pretty much a no-brainer.
  16. Fun fact, since Aaron Sele was the first MLB player named Aaron, its entirely possible that this is the first Aaron for Aaron substitution.
  17. Cy Walters shows up 2 innings late. Good for him. :banghead:
  18. If that happens, I'd be really concerned about this team. Edit: PJ Walters. Sorry I messed up his name. Either way, Z needs to win, not do the "6 runs in 3 innings and a temper tantrum" thing that happens once a year vs. the Cardinals.
  19. If we lose to a guy named PJ Mathews, consider me worried.
  20. Just looking at the box score for the first time. For as bad as DLee has been, he has 7 RBI in 8 and 1/3 games. Not bad.
  21. More than likely, Soriano will hit his 500th HR as a Cub and will probably be part of numerous winning teams. If he gets an MVP and/or wins a WS while having all 8 of his Cub seasons being at least above average, there could be some discussion, but probably not. Zambrano could be very likely and could end up owning all of the Cubs pitching records if he signs another contract when this one runs out and doesn't have major injuries. Ramirez is probably the 2nd most likely behind Z. He could end up besting all of Ron Santo's club records for 3B and will participate on several winning teams. 1 more 4 year deal and he will have 10+ seasons as a Cub. Geovany Soto will not only have his number retired by the Cubs, but across all leagues of baseball. No one will be allowed to wear the number 18 while on a baseball diamond anywhere in the world. Ever. Again. Because he's the man. And if they do, he will find them and punish (reward) them with having to personally manicure his hair and eyebrows before each game he plays.
  22. The obvious choice would have been Z, but Lou probably doesn't want Z or Demp running the bases when the weather is crappy. Good choice by Lou. I personally would have pinch hit Gregg in the hope of a HBP!
