  1. So great. They will NEVER win the division. Ever. And really, neither will any other team besides the Cubs for the next 5-500 years.
  2. [tweet] [/tweet]
  3. I would imagine if it's anything besides a 1 run game in the 8th inning or later, they'll go Javy if Ross happens to get hurt. If he's not hurt, Ross will stay in even if the game goes 500 innings.
  4. I know I'm way late here, but that LaStella PH at bat was strong. Rat Boy has been incredibly effective this year.
  5. It only happens a couple times a year so I think the schedulers are pretty deliberate about avoiding it where possible, or at least they used to be. well yeah, they try to avoid it as much as possible but it happens regularly enough Friday, May 6th will be my 5th consecutive year doing a crosstown doubleheader. It's so great every damn time. Though this year, like most, it will be a Cubs day game followed by a Sox night game. It's much funner the other way around because of the better pre/post game options for a Wrigley night game...unless you have someone sober enough to drive to the Cell, in which case the tailgating is still fun.
  6. Yes. Got recruited there for a sport, so I took a visit. Full of weirdos, both at the college and especially the townies.
  7. The Cubs losing to Dusty Baker or the White Sox in the postseason would be extremely tough to take. Given that losing to the White Sox in the postseason would mean the Cubs losing the WS, I'm pretty sure that would be extremely tough to take regardless. Agreed, but losing to, say, the Blue Jays, would be much more preferable. Yet still extremely shitty.
  8. Yeah, having Ross on there over Montero is a kick in the dick to Miggy. Edit: Nevermind. Montero is the official representative as he should be.
  9. This was all so predictable. Hopefully they fail in the postseason in magnificent fashion. The Cubs losing to Dusty Baker or the White Sox in the postseason would be extremely tough to take.
  10. As painful as it will be, you have to let him go, assuming it's going to take a mega deal. It's too bad he's not a couple of years younger. That is unless the Rickettses decide to go full Dodgers with the payroll. Yeah, as amazing as he is, I still don't want them giving him the deal he's going to net unless, like you said, the Ricketts just say "[expletive] it" and decide the money vault is finally completely open. Yep. Especially if they win the World Series this year or next. No need to sign a 32 year old pitcher to a 8 year, $250 million contract. Give Bryce Harper that money instead.
  11. I refuse to believe we couldn't have gotten Dan Hamhuis for 2/3rds or less than what was given up for Ladd.
  12. The tipping point for Blackhawks likability and performance likely peaked last June. Not that they won't be popular or can't win a cup, but it wouldn't be surprising if the "dynasty" is over and between Kane and Shaw, the likability factor is certainly waning for the fringe fans. Wings won in 97, 98, and 02 and then not again until 08. I could see that being the Blackhawks. We got our 3 in a short window and they MIGHT be able to get 1 or 2 more later in the Toews/Kane/Keith core's careers. Hossa is done, Seabrook is declining rapidly, and the salary cap stuff is coming to roost. A comparison could be the 09 PGA when Woods blew a lead in a major on a Sunday for the first time to YE Yang. 3 months later, his personal life stuff hit the fan, and despite times of great performance since then, he's never won a major and really tailed off since then.
  13. David Ross off to a pretty decent start as well. The hate bucket is pretty empty right now. Though Lackey still has a 5.68 ERA. So, it's him until he proves he's not a Cardinals spy.
  14. exactly, i'm almost so low stressed about these playoffs that I feel guilty about it. I'm sure if/when the Hawks advance to the WCF my stress levels would shoot way up. I definitely feel very bad fanish about it, but it would be nice to at least win a little this spring. Me, too. Guilty as charged on being spoiled, but, whatever. Doesn't mean I won't appreciate it if they advance, but for the first time ever, I'm rooting for a team in a postseason without being completely disappointed/angry if they lose. It's weird. I was never like this about the 90s Bulls because any time after 91 (MJ years only), I knew they had the best team every time they were in the playoffs and anything besides a title would have been a huge disappointment. That being said, going out to the Blues would still suck and I'm sure my tone will change if we get to an elimination game.
  15. 17/18. Thought Comerica was the Indians stadium for some reason.
  16. Absolutely. With not much hope of getting above the middle. Teams ranked in order of championship likelihood: Blackhawks Cubs White Sox Bears Bulls Could maybe switch the Sox and Bears. Bulls are going to be crap for a long time.
  17. Baby almost 6 week before due date. Hopefully everything is OK.
  18. There's always this, too: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2042089/John-Lackey-files-divorce-wife-Krista-battles-breast-cancer.html I'll probably come around on him if he pitches well, but he's a douche.
  19. I get a worse hangover on crafts. Same. Same. Probably due to the higher alcohol content and them going down just as smooth, if not smoother, than cheap beer because the crafts taste better.
  20. Deadspin has posted about the first 2 Cardinals losses because they hate them. Let's hope this continues all season and there are 81+ posts: http://deadspin.com/the-cardinals-lost-their-second-game-1769379197
  21. Honestly, when I'm at a Wrigleyville bar, I'm not looking for high-end beers. A shandy is about the only deviation I'll have from the standard domestic lights. Same. I like to pound the hell out of cheap crappy beer when I'm in baseball mode. Agreed. Love good beer. When I'm having a few beers at dinner or even just a night out with some friends. But when I'm drinking 6-12 beers before/at/after a ballgame, just give me a cheap shitty domestic.
  22. If we're sitting Schwarber because the pitcher is really good against lefties, why would we DH Montero? I'm trying to keep Szczur out of the line up, so leave me alone. This would have been the Javy 4 HR game. Oh well, it will have to wait a few weeks. #Dingers
  23. Here's the original link http://www.forbes.com/pictures/mlm45gdfgj/baseballs-most-valuable/ So, Ricketts bought the team for $800M, now worth $2.2B. Add in the $600M they're spending on ballpark improvements and you're at $800M in equity plus whatever profit they've made the past 5 years, let's say $200M and you're looking at $1B before-tax profit if they sold the team tomorrow, even if they funded the remaining construction. Not bad.
  24. Casual fans see it as Blue blood vs. play-in winner and pick accordingly. I have Arizona winning it but it was more of a toss up for me...haven't really liked how Arizona has played the last 6 weeks or so. Which is all completely fair, but still insane to think about because Arizona is one of the better/most talented 6 seeds in the history of the tournament. Without looking it up, I'd have to imagine this is the highest KenPom ranked 6/11 matchup ever.
