  1. No big deal really, but a fascinating article that pointed out that they finished with basically the exact same WAR and Dunn made about twice as much money in his career. Most fans and GMs would prefer Dunn, but overpay to do so, which is exactly what happened.
  2. also noted that bleachers won't be ready for occupancy until May (LF/CF) or June (RF) And several of the WSCR producers/reporters including Herb Lawrence and Adam Jahns are suggesting that the Cubs would be better off financially playing in the Cell for a year just because of 2 months of bleacher closings. LOL. Guess that's the type of business education you get from the Illinois Center for Broadcasting. Adam Hoge was saying similar things. Ridiculousness. Jay Zawaski was at least telling them they were dumb. Digging up a 100 year old foundation, what could go wrong? Have these guys even ever watched HGTV? They sound like complete business and construction morons right now.
  3. Great article on Adam Dunn and Juan Pierre. Will probably upset the Pierre over-haters and/or Dunn over-lovers. http://grantland.com/the-triangle/adam-dunn-juan-pierre-why-we-need-wins-above-replacement-stat/

  5. They will likely recoup the picks this summer when they trade off Sharp or Bickell. I can see Sharp pulling a 1st rounder. Bickell what, a 3rd? Really looking forward to tonight's game. Thanks Kaner for not waiting a week to get hurt. Also, will probably get a pick for Raanta, possibly as soon as today.
  6. Great story on Sosa: http://m.bleacherreport.com/articles/2368638-sammy-sosa-in-exile-theres-silence-rather-than-apology-from-former-cubs-star The Cubs owe him a hell of a lot more than he owes them.
  7. Personal hero. If he stays on the Brewers, his last game will be in Milwaukee vs. the Cubs on Sunday 10/4 with the outside chance that one or both teams would need the game for the playoffs. That would be cool.
  8. Yeah, that was "Baxter ate the entire wheel of cheese" level of disbelief. You can't really help but be anything but impressed.
  9. Fair, but wouldn't you still want your best hitter being there? That's Rizzo for now. Nope. If you go by Tangotiger's work, you want your 5th or 6th best hitter there, someone who gets an unusually high proportion of his value from HRs and unusually low proportion of his value from OBP. Jorge Soler or Mike Olt A 30% K-ing Javier Baez would be perfect. Sounds good to me. Not to get too deep behind the math, but I wonder if there is any element of the mysterious "protection" variable to it? Baez (or whoever) would get more pitches to hit because the guy behind him is a better hitter.

  11. Seriously, though, read all of it. If Schwarber can be an average MLB catcher and have his bat be 3/4 of what I think it can be, the ceiling of this core of prospects goes from "outstanding" to "all time great". It's so damn exciting right now.
  12. Interesting. I still would like the higher OBP guys higher up. Fowler, Soler, Rizzo followed by Castro, Montero, Baez, Coghlan, 3B (Olt?) to start. Then inserting Bryant ahead of Castro and moving everyone else down accordingly (and Olt out) once Bryant is up. [expletive] this is going to be a fun few years to be a Cubs fan.
  13. You are first fan in the history of baseball to argue for more off days. He's also correct.
  14. It happened until 2003, but I don't think it has happened since then, even the past few putrid years.
  15. Twitter consensus is that they're setting up the salary cap for a trade. History has shown that Stan will go out and get a defenseman when he needs to with decent results. Campoli was decent until he coughed up the turnover that led to the OT winner against Van. Oduya was an integral part of the 2013 run. I think we'll see Erixon to IR or waived before the deadline. Cuminsky lasts until TVR returns unless they need to add his salary to equation. All this means that the Hawks could now get a D man currently making ~$3 million provided that the other team is willing to pay half (which is the max) of the remaining cap hit. Without capgeek it's hard to know for sure but I think those figures come out under the cap. Good thing they couldn't figure this out before the season when they got rid of Leddy. Also, good thing they gave a 500 year old Roszival a 2 year deal when they didn't need to. And gave Crawford more than they probably had to. And got Versteeg back for little reason. Can't really bag on Stan after his 2010-2013 cap wizardry, but this is a big deadline for him.
  16. Moncada to the Red Sox. At least it's the AL, I guess... http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/02/red-sox-to-sign-yoan-moncada.html
  17. Would make overtime periods even more awesome than they are right now unless both teams turtle to get a point. This is the best idea IMO.
  18. Ugh. What the hell do we need another frontcourt guy for? Perkins is barely better than Nazr at this point. Can't wait to see Hinrich and Perkins attempting to close out playoff games THEY HAVE GREAT VETERAN LEADERSHIP AND EXPERIENCE.
  19. Ugh. What the hell do we need another frontcourt guy for? Perkins is barely better than Nazr at this point.
  20. This. My attitude is, we get through regulation, great, we got a point. It's basically a tie. If we win the SO, even better. But I don't get upset if we lose the SO. What about a regulation/OT win counts as 3, a SO win is 2, and an OT/SO loss is 1? Overtime would be even more bananas than it is right now.
  21. Honestly, I don't really care, because I find him annoying and terrible. I don't think too many people would care, just wondering when enough is enough for him. Not like he has a lot of options, though, I'm sure.
  22. I literally have no idea. Anywhere from $50k to $150k wouldn't surprise me. If it's in the top half of that range, he'll be around forever, lower half, I could see him bouncing. Again, though, I couldn't have less of an idea about the non on-air talent salary scale.
  23. When does Abbatacola quit The Score? He's clearly never getting a meaningful on air slot there.
  24. If this is where we're doing the stadium rankings, here's what I got: 1. Wrigley/Fenway (tie) 2. Camden Yards 3. PNC 4. ATT 5. Coors 6. Safeco 7. Petco 8. Dodger 9. Miller 10. Cell 11. Nationals 12. Marlins 13. Old Yankee 14. New Busch 15. Great American 16. Angels 17. Turner 18. Milwaukee County Stadium 19. Shea 20. Old Busch 21. Tropicana 22. Old Comiskey 23. RFK 24. Metrodome 25. Veterans Stadium Philly I somehow haven't made it to Comerica or Jacobs. Will be hitting Target Field this year and possibly one or both of the Texas stadiums.
  25. Mully and Hanley are complete garbage, especially Mully. How that guy has one of the 4 most coveted radio shows in a top 3 market is absolute insanity.
