  1. Kenley Jansen being black is one of the most surprising things I've seen in a while. That's pretty much the whitest name ever. And, yes, that K/9 is something to behold. Uh.... it's his sixth season in the league. I had somehow never seen him until yesterday. And I looked it up, he's from Curacao, which makes the name thing make sense and me feel like a dick because the last name is likely slave related going back hundreds of years I'm sure.

  3. It's Donn Roach time!!!* *I really hope not. 29Ks in 62 innings.
  4. He hit an opposite field bomb in Coors last night. [expletive] the Cardinals.
  5. I won some beer from a Tigers fan friend thanks to Montero's HR giving the Cubs the better run differential in the series. Thanks, pal! #wearegood
  6. What are you talking about? If the Hawks could have put 5 on them, then Tampa could have put 10 on us. The Hawks have played better for like 3 or 4 of the 12 periods. They're fortunate to be tied. Now, has Tampa played as well as possible? Probably. Do the Hawks have another gear? Possibly. I like our chances, but the Hawks are very lucky this series is 2-2.
  7. He had/has "vertigo"/concussion, which is probably the main reason. Also, the speed game isn't his strong suit. And he was overpaid/overrated due to a great playoff stretch in 2013. He's a 3rd or 4th line player in this league, maybe 2nd on a weaker team who is being counted on to play with Kane/Richards because of his size.
  8. I have 2 for Saturday night's game vs. Reds (Aisle 525, $30 each) and 4 for the Friday July 3rd game vs. the Marlins (120pm, Aisle 517, $40 each) that I'm looking to sell for face value. If anyone is interested, PM me.
  9. Lance McCullers threw a CG with 11Ks, 0BB and only 107 pitches last night. Youngest pitcher to throw a 10K+ CG since the Kerry Wood 20K game. The Astros are going to be great right along with the Cubs the next several years. Good thing they moved to the AL. Thanks, Selig!
  10. It was Kane-Toews-Saad in practice yesterday, so we'll see if Q goes with that. And, yes, the Richards line could have some problems on D vs. triplets--maybe that's why he would keep the game 7 lines, so Hossa would provide more D than Kane?
  11. Joc Pederson has hit three 450+ HRs in the past 2 days, including an MLB-season-high 480 footer last night. It was at Coors, but still. Guy is a [expletive] beast.
  12. I tried doing the same thing. According to people at Cub World and Wrigleyville Sports, there's really no good way to get the letters off of a jersey without ruining the jersey. You could get a nameplate stitched over the Prior lettering, but it would probably look really weird, especially the home jersey with the pinstripes. If it's the Blue jersey, it could look OK.
  13. Advantage: Almost 2 hours extra sleep coming off road trips or night games/nights out for the players, fans can possibly leave work early instead of taking a PTO full/half day Disadvantages: Shadows tend to be pretty bad in these 3:05 starts toward the end of the games most of the year, games going on/getting out during rush hour/early evening usually ends up in worse traffic for the neighborhood/city.
  14. I'm sure they did, but I kind of remember them being strong armed into staying at Soldier Field. The parking/restrooms stuff is fun to bitch about but doesn't really matter in the long run as they will still sell out every game. Not having 80,000+ capacity and a retractable roof costing the city Billions in potential revenue from Super Bowls, Final Fours, other events (CFB playoff, B1G title game, etc...) is the most inexcusable part of the whole thing.
  15. Ford Field and Lucas Oil Stadium are both 20x more convenient and nice. The new Vikings stadium will be extremely convenient. The NOLA Superdome is great, LP Field in Nashville is in a solid location. Carolina's stadium is pretty convenient. It's not like every team has the Meadowlands [expletive] show or is the Bills and plays in the middle of nowhere. Also, yeah, if you want to park in a garage, it's not that bad, but the tailgating options are for [expletive]. The only tailgating option for people without season tickets is 31st street and even that is getting axed basically down to nothing. Even the season ticket holders are getting squeezed on tailgating. If they build that George Lucas museum, that's going to kill any outdoor parking space within like 8 blocks of the stadium.
  16. Yes, now 1 of the roughly 500 problems with Soldier Field is fixed. That place is a complete dumpster fire. You'd have to pay me to attend another event there. Everything about it sucks. Parking, distance to public transit, flow, concourses, BATHROOMS, lack of foresight in planning for a dome/additional capacity to have other events there (Super Bowl, Final Four, CFB/B1G playoffs), etc. That is the biggest boondoggle in Chicago sports stadium history. It makes the Cell look like Camden Yards. The Stadium Series game there last year was the worst. People were literally pissing in the concourses DURING PLAY, not intermission, due to the lack of bathrooms. In a 12 year old stadium. What a piece of [expletive]. [expletive] you Mayor Daley. I'd rather have the Bears play in Schaumburg or Gary, IN than Soldier Field. /Rant Over
  17. I think they actually played better at the end of that Coyotes series besides the last game where they just crapped the bed. Also, didn't realize that 5 out of 6 of those games went to OT. Nuts.
  18. The Cubs defense has been a complete disaster this series. Not all errors, but a ton of misplays as well. Look like a joke out there today. Also, Arrietta sucking lately is not fun.
  19. Ate at a table next to him in a restaurant in Disney World in roughly 1992. First celebrity encounter. Nice guy. This sucks.
  20. Teuvo on the ice with a one goal lead and less than 5 minutes left is extremely encouraging.
  21. That news is NOT so Grimm. :hello:
  22. Oh, it'll normalize. There won't be 2 runs of difference between his xFIP and ERA and strand rate won't be at 60%, but I think he'll be a guy with better xFIP than ERA most of the time if he somehow keeps his k-rate where it is now. Which would be a change from my personal expectations that he'd be the type of guy to "outpitch" his peripherals with some of the BS "craftiness" that he allegedly has.
  23. K rate up is very, very encouraging and low BB rate should continue. However, the FIP/ERA difference and lower than average strand rate could continually be an issue for a guy with his lack of pure "stuff". When he really needs to make a pitch to put someone away in an important situation, I've yet to see him make it consistently.
  24. Time for Lester to translate some of his xFIP magic to an actual excellent performance.
