  1. Absolutely, that's going to be madness. Anaheim could be stepping into a hornet's nest. Calgary will probably be pretty crazy as well since it's been 6 years for their fans also.
  2. He will likely still be in Iowa for that game. Technically, yes, Bryant could come up to Chicago on that Friday, April 17th vs. the Padres to meet the extra year of control rules to the T. However, Theo has usually brought up top prospects on the road to save with some of the circus, so if that is the course they choose, the Sunday, April 19th game could be KBs last game in the minors. That being said, they theoretically could just not have him play in Iowa that day and say he is flying to Pittsburgh to meet the MLB team for Monday's game.
  3. As bad as they are, Edmonton is pretty tough at home. Under the circumstances though, yeah, this is a bad loss. LA is still going to get into the playoffs ass backwardly like the Hawks did in 2011. Calgary has to play Winnipeg in the final game on Saturday. So, if LA gets 4 points in their last 2 games (@Calgary, vs. San Jose), Calgary would have to beat the Jets on Saturday in what could be a "loser leaves town" match if the Jets don't get at least 1 point vs. Colorado on Thursday. If it happens that way, I'm firing something through the TV.
  4. Flames can clinch the playoffs and eliminate the defending champs in their biggest home game since we eliminated them in 2009. Saddledome should be rocking.
  5. This Ben Carsley character has the Cubs in last but Bryant/Soler 1/2 in ROY voting. If Bryant and Soler are both that awesome, I find it hard to believe we'd finish behind the Reds.
  6. Looks like they are trying to speak with ships at sea Maybe Peter Gammons is operating the video board? sdafasdfsdfasdfkl;jkl;jkj;jasdfs
  7. DePaul's hiring process is akin to some of the perpetually bad BIG football programs. Aim low with your hire, guarantee really results. Rinse and repeat Process was actually fine until the end. Both Hurley and Drew were on campus and would have been GREAT hires. They said no, so they panicked. It's a [expletive] disaster.
  8. Donnie Tyndall out at Tennessee due to NCAA violations that he committed at Southern Miss. Also, rumors that Rick Barnes might step down at Texas. Archie Miller signed a contract extension through 2021, but rumor has it that Texas would go after him if Barnes goes away. Personally, I hate all of this because DePaul has been so slow on hiring a coach that their main targets could go elsewhere (to jobs that are currently open, or to other, better, jobs that will become vacant if their coaches take some of the current open jobs).
  9. I would not object. OK. For a minute, I think I'm crazy because our D is so bad, but the OL really isn't that great right now. Long is obviously a stud, but Mills is garbage and the left side & center are old. Eventually (or even this year), you could have tackles of Long and Scherff or just leave Long as a dominant G and have Scherff as RT this year and LT of the future.
  10. Being that the Cubs would only have to win a maximum of 12 playoff games to win the title, it has to be the Blackhawks, right?
  11. Anyone else think that we should just draft Brandon Scherff at #7 if he's available? Guy is going to be a 10x Pro-Bowler.
  12. This is awesome http://awfulannouncing.com/2015/closed-captioning-calls-nik-stauskas-sauce-castillo-which-he-and-kings-fans-are-embracing.html #SauceCastillo
  13. Because, if you're like me, you haven't paid nearly as much attention to MLB the past few years while the Cubs have sucked so hard. That, and he's been injured/suspended a lot recently.
  14. Ok, I laughed. Nicely done.
  15. Herb Sendek out at Arizona State--rumor is that it's "Jeff Capel's job if he wants it". Also, Gregg Marshall is apparently going to be offered a monster deal from Alabama. He loves Wichita and is compensated well, but said he would "have to listen" if it's a ridiculous offer.
  16. Agreed, this team is not very good. Offensively, they're bad and rely on their size rather than ability on defense. Yet they're likely to put that 76 Hoosiers team out of their misery. The NCAA needs to keep players until their a junior or turn 21 to remain relevant. Which they have no right to do (nor does the NBA have the right to keep them from being pros), so I'm not sure what the move is. I think going to a baseball type system is the way to go. Let the guys who are good enough go ahead and turn pro immediately, but if you go to a 4 year school, you wait until you're through year 3 before you can go. Agreed, but I'd be OK with 2 years.
  17. Assume this would be a better place to talk about hirings, firings, transfers, rule changes, who's going pro, and the inevitable NCAA violations. Ben Howland hired at Mississippi State. Great hire for them. Another "what the hell are you doing?" for DePaul on this one.
  18. Let's hope not, but the past 2 years of 85 and 75 OPS+ are not inspiring me.
  19. The Ross thing is really the only thing that has bothered me about our offseason. So unnecessary with Montero & Castillo. I know it's basically an extra Lester tax, but still, it sucks. It's not necessarily this, as it seems they're trying to get Lester comfortable with Montero. I think it may end up being more of a platoon partner situation and them being all in on framing. How much framing value can a backup catcher provide when they play once or twice a week? I'd rather have a guy who can pinch hit once in a while and not be a complete black hole. I understand them valuing framing with Montero who will play 5x/week, not your backup catcher who never plays.

  21. Not that anyone cares, but here's my DePaul coaching wish list: Tier Unrealistic: Archie Miller, Shaka Smart, Ben Jacobsen, Scott Drew Tier 1: Bobby Hurley, Bryce Drew, Brian Wardle, Ben Howland, Jamie Dixon, Tom Crean, Chris Mooney (Richmond) Tier 2: Steve Masiello, Michael White (La Tech), Steve Prohm (Murray State), Leon Rice (Boise St.), Tommy Amaker (Harvard) Tier 3: Greg Gard (Wisconsin Asst.), Jeff Capel, Dan Muller (ISU), Chris Jans (Bowling Green) Tier 4: Tavares Hardy, Jerrance Howard, LaVall Jordan (Michigan Asst), Tim Floyd, Larry Eustachy, Ray McCallum (Detroit), Porter Moser (Loyola), Keno Davis (Central Michigan) Wild Card: Josh Pastner (Memphis), Kevin Stallings (Vanderbilt) Tier Kill Myself: Craig Robinson, Ty Corbin, Mark Aguirre, Billy Garrett, Anthony Grant, Reggie Theus, Robert Smith, Lorenzo Romar, anyone over the age of 55 that hasn't been to a Final Four
  22. Regarding the designated hitter going to the National League, I wonder if there's any sort of hybrid approach that would keep a little more strategy in the game. Maybe some rule that the original designated hitter cannot bat more than two times through the lineup before having to be removed? Therefore once you take your starting pitcher out of the lineupand/or the DH comes to bat for the third time that the designated hitter has to be pinch-hit for or something like that. Thoughts?
  23. Did he make an error today's game? Yeah. Double play ball, made a bad/short throw to Javy at 2B...everyone safe Theo told Bryant to play poor on defense so the Cubs can have an argument as to why he's sent down to AAA to start the season when the Player's Union "investigates" Bryant not opening with the MLB team. Duh.
  24. Soooo, the Baez vs. Lindor debate. Is that something we want to try and banish from the archives of NSBB yet, or are we going to wait a few more years? http://espn.go.com/blog/spring-training/post/_/id/2754/lindor-readying-for-day-indians-call-him-up
  25. Excellent. Bears doing a great job filling needs with contracts that don't have the cap crippling possibilities like Jared Allen's last year. Nice job so far, Pace!
