  1. I wouldn't have guessed I'd be this disinterested in the Cubs by June 21st.
  2. Whatever. Mariotti is given free reign to spill his bile not only through the Sun Times but also on Around the Horn. Is swearing about Mariotti any more childish than constantly referring to Dusty as the Rev. Johnnie B. Baker or the litany of childish pet names he's come up with with any variety of sports personalities through the years? Lest we forget, before last year's World Series, Jerry Reinsdorf was one of his favorite targets for ridicule and childish taunts. I mean seriously. There's a saying about people in glass houses. Yes, it is more childish. If Guillen wants to give Mariotti a pet name........ more power to him. But that pet name can't be littered with expletives, and end with "[expletive]". I agree with you here. Its just a p***ing match between a self-promoter [Mariotti] and a guy [Guillen] who doesn't know when to shut up and believes he has a lifetime free pass b/c he has a WS ring.
  3. ...and he called Marriotti a "f*g" to the media last night. Are you serious? Yep....here's the story. http://www.suntimes.com/output/couch/cst-spt-greg212.html Wearing out his welcome one would say.
  4. This from today's Toronto Sun : http://www.torontosun.com/Sports/Basketball/2006/06/21/1644767-sun.html Raptors and Bobcats talking trade. Apparently the Bobcats would use the #1 pick for Roy.
  5. To all the Mavs fans : Close but no [Cuban] cigar.
  6. Good pitching match-up. That's all. Have a good day.
  7. There is one exception to this that I can think of and that's when teams used to do the Hack-A-Shaq and would just grab Shaq up until there were two minutes left in the half (when the foul became a shoot the free throws and get the ball back situation) to send him to the line. Shaq often had games where he would shoot 20+ FT's and occasionally had a game with 30+ FTA. He even had a game where he shot an unbelievable 39 FT's against Indiana in Game 2 of the 2000 NBA Finals. I'm not old enough to remember if they did this to Wilt as well but I believe they did IIRC. I believe that Wade broke Bob Petit's record for free throw attempts in an NBA Finals game.....so the numbers go back for a while Basketball-Reference It's the game on 2000-06-09. Wow....that I did not know......thanks.....quite the stat......for some reason I thought the announcers referred to Petit....I must have not been paying attention...thanks for the #

  9. This is gonna be a very good game
  10. HA...shortest game thread of the year.....Go Heat ! Thanks for the PBP Fred....much appreciated.
  11. I got tired of the MJ-Wade comparison, the point of the highlights. I hear ya.....it gets tiring when it just goes from Kobe-toLeBron-Wade-etc as to who becomes the "next" MJ. I was lucky and saw MJ play at UNC and w/ the Bulls numerous times, even in the Finals,....just quit the comparisions cause there was only one.
  12. Go Cubs...I just tuned in....do we have a chance or .......
  13. I never get tired of MJ &/or BULLS win hi-lites........yesssssssss
  14. Not to ruin this thread but the Raptors are going to deal the first pick and get Aldridge in the draft.
  15. Respectfully disagree, Simmons is last years news.
  16. I'm thinking that Mark Cuban needs to take a backseat for awhile...he is becoming a huge distraction. BTW---- does anybody really read Bill Simmons anymore.....come on.....his "schtick " is very tired
  17. Furcal's OBP isn't that much better than Cedeno's. I just hate Cedeno's inability to see pitches at certain points. I think Furcal is a better player at this stage, hopefully Cedeno improves his patience. Remove your sunglasses, dude, please. Cause considering AGE, and FINANCIAL commitments, Cedeno is performing better then Furcal. Cedeno didn't start progressing as a offensive player, till like 3 yrs ago. So he still have a ways to go. Not to mention this is Cedeno's first full season in the majors. So, you expect similar numbers to what Cedeno has put up. I fully expect Cedeno to improve in those areas as he gets older. What is Furcal's "excuse" for being a below-average SS? Thanks for TELLING me, dude. I have REMOVED my sunglasses, and now I SEE the light. I was speaking in tearms of ability, Furcal is better at this point. Come on Shavo, you can't admit on a statistical basis, financial basis, PECOTA basis, normalized projection basis that Furcal is better at this point. The numbers don't support your argument.
  18. Actually, June has already been exhausted -- those runs were on loan from July. Ha....well played.
  19. I'm looking forward to seeing Owen Hargreaves play in his actual position for England for a change, and then maybe people can get off his back for a minute or two. Is Hargreaves in the starting line-up ? Yes, he's starting as a defensive midfielder. Thanks.

  21. Did we exhaust all our offensive poweress for the rest of June in last night's win ?
  22. I agree with these two points. The point of my original post is more that Cedeno, for what he is earning, is performing better than Furcal. For a young shortstop he is doing his job. Obviously the Cubs are lacking in several areas but shortstop isn't one of them. Yes, he has some areas to improve on but as of now he is holding up his end of the bargain.
  23. Interesting to compare the stats at this point in this season : Cedeno in 66 games : .290/.314/.392 and 11 errors. Furcal in 67 games : .249/.329/.335 and 16 errors. And how much did Furcal get again ?!?!
  24. So true, so true BTW----nice sig....Congrats Canes/Whalers Fans !
