  1. If he gets the first 2 batters out in the 9th, does he walk Pujols ?!?....i dunno.
  2. Pujols due up 3rd in the top of the 9th...Go Oritz !!
  3. WOW...Ortiz is now thru 8 with the no-no in tact. 88 pitches...3 walks.....Pujols will bat 3rd in the top of the 9th.
  4. Amazingly, Oritz of the Nats has a no-no thru 7 against the Cards
  5. The Cubs are still playing games ?!?....whodathunkit.
  6. Once again your analysis is spot on. IMHO, the mass media aided by a heavy push from the NYC media will be Met-centric.....therefore Beltran will win. This could change but Pujols will have to have a huge September to counter-balance the NYC marketing campaign.
  7. As much as I want Halladay to win again, the stats do favor Santana. I won't argue if Doc gets the award, he is a stud. However, Santana has been more dominant.
  8. Dusty in Seattle would be far enough away for me. But what would he do when he couldn't use his famous double-switch strategy 162 times a year ?
  9. Nominate me for Chairman of the Federal Reserve instead. That's where the real power is !! If you are fluent in Greenspan-ese I would take you over Bernake any day. Go Fred !!
  10. Very solid analysis done here. Well done. At this point I would put Webb ahead in the race but, of course, September numbers could be the final determining factor. Z's chances will be hurt by his high walk #'s and the fact that the Cubs haven't played a meaningful game since April.
  11. Without a doubt that is my fondest memory of him.
  12. Notwithstanding all the problems this team has but IF before the season started someone told you that on August 20th the Cards would be only 8 games above .500 and the Cubs held an 11-4 seasons series edge on the Cards, wouldn't you, being a rational person, expect the Cubs to be right in the thick of things ? and not 12 games out and 16 games below .500 ? Anyway, IMHO, this is the most frustrating thing about this season.
  13. My answer is the same as the one above me.
  14. I think it was explained quite well already -- ARod was the superior player at that position. Pretty simple, actually. If you think the hatred for aRod is bad now, imagine if he had taken Jeter's position. So what? That organization holds a ton of sway over the media in NY. If Jeter was the consumate team player and captain he's purported to be, he'd have publically handed over the SS position because it was what was best for the Yankees, and then you have no controversy. I have to respectfully take issue with this statement. The NY Times is a minority shareholder of the Red Sox and they have been often cited as being too critical of the Yankees. The YES network, which The Boss owns, has been critized for planting questions from the clubhouse reporter , Suzie something or other, questioning Torre's strategy and A-Rod's fielding issues. I'm not a fan of any of the Yankees, Jeter, A-Rod etc but in all honesty Jeter is having an MVP type season and A-Rod seems to be his own worst problem. He may have been the better SS when he joined the Yankees but right now thats a moot point.
  15. Lowell's catch may factor in but I believe the GG for 3rd base in the AL is owned by one Eric Chavez.....hard to see it being taken from Chavez this year.
  16. Hafner & Beltran are the kings of the grand slams this year.
  17. Cue in the "Rocky Mountain High" music.....Cubs lose again.
  18. Vernon Wells is a great player. Problem is he's from Texas, his dad still lives there and his best friend is Michael Young......odds heavily favor Vernon going to the Rangers when he's a FA.
  19. That makes sense. I thought of McLain as well but somehow I thought maybe it was more recent ....like the 80's maybe. Plus, I didn't know about McLains injury. I knew about his checkered past but not that. Thanks.
  20. I was watching The Sports Reporters on ESPN this morning and the subject was Paul Lo Duca of The Mets and the gambling allegations about him. Bob Ryan of the Boston Globe said there was a starting pitcher a while ago who was a key player for his team in a pennant race. This said pitcher missed the stretch run because of a mysterious "accident" that Ryan alluded to was caused by "knee-breakers" ( his words). Ryan then winked in the camera and said "I think some of you know who this was". I don't know who it could be. Does anyone have an idea who it was ? I'm not trying to descredit anyone, I'm just curious. Any thoughts ? Thxs.
  21. Valid point by you. Hope this is true. Girardi as Cubs manager would make me very. very happy.
  22. I have zero respect for Mr. Mark McGwire. That being said he is well within his rights to not co-operate w/ MLB's investigation.
