I think it was explained quite well already -- ARod was the superior player at that position. Pretty simple, actually. If you think the hatred for aRod is bad now, imagine if he had taken Jeter's position. So what? That organization holds a ton of sway over the media in NY. If Jeter was the consumate team player and captain he's purported to be, he'd have publically handed over the SS position because it was what was best for the Yankees, and then you have no controversy. I have to respectfully take issue with this statement. The NY Times is a minority shareholder of the Red Sox and they have been often cited as being too critical of the Yankees. The YES network, which The Boss owns, has been critized for planting questions from the clubhouse reporter , Suzie something or other, questioning Torre's strategy and A-Rod's fielding issues. I'm not a fan of any of the Yankees, Jeter, A-Rod etc but in all honesty Jeter is having an MVP type season and A-Rod seems to be his own worst problem. He may have been the better SS when he joined the Yankees but right now thats a moot point.
