  1. I was driving and heard on the radio that the Cubs were up 1-0 on a Juan Pierre homer...............needless to say I almost got into an accident.......whoooooooosh.........close one.
  2. Bush could pitch like Dubya and we would still lose.
  3. Brilliant Dusty, just brilliant. How long have you been thinking of this strategy ? Welcome to the first inning featuring 3 double-switches.
  4. Gammons deserves everyone's support. He was truly a pioneer in baseball journalism. I highly doubt he is a fan of the talk/schlock/jock radio/TV shows out there today. Get well soon Peter Gammons.
  5. Hey Ozzie, you have a brand new apologist. His name is John Rocker. Doesn't that make you feel better knowing that John Rocker, yep that John Rocker, is on your side.
  6. What a thoroughly entertaining 1st half....THIS is how soccer on the world's stage should be played. Feel bad for Ghana...but great game going on.
  7. What an incredible pace to this game....give Ghana a lot of credit.
  8. Great passing..what a nice play by Brazil.
  9. I can't &/or don't root against the Cubs....but then again I can't &/or don't watch them right now. I love baseball but I can't watch the Cubs style of baseball at all.
  10. I wonder how many of those triples we left stranded !?!?
  11. I guess he can't be related to Ozzie but maybe Earl Weaver.
  12. Wasn't this contract turned down for a less intricate contract which happens to be less lucrative contract? The sad fact is that World Series winner still has less of a fan base than a lowly team teetering on last place. Wait a sec! I thought prior to stating this, he said the interest and allegiance to the Cubs is waning and starting to migrate to the south side. I'm confused. So are they Cubs fans attending games at Wrigley while fighting the urge to become Sox fans? I believe you are correct but I don't know the details of Samardzija's contract. From what I understand it is pretty minimal. For the record, I'm not a fan of Dayn Perry but I was bored and saw a "new" Cubs "gotta change" artcile and thought I would post it as an FYI.
  13. It is very cool. Gotta love what Cabrera did.
  14. Perry writes, "Lowly Cubs need to make sweeping changes." http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5713564 Writes Hendry and Baker must go. Wants to see new ownership. Takes a shot at Cubs faithful. Not a lot new here but its a "new" article nonetheless.
  15. Its funny how Guillen was regarded as a "breath of fresh air" b/c of his outspokeness. Now that the "fresh air" has become increasing stale he is digging his own grave. I agree with your "two years from today" call but something tells me it may be sooner than that.
  16. I like Trot Nixon but he is not the answer to any of the various Cubs problem areas.
  17. I thought they already were cheating.........their fan base that is.
  18. http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/sports/14890578.htm Philadelphia Inquirer reports Myers will pitch today at Fenway. He better get himself some ear plugs.
  19. Actually, based on paper, most prognosticators thought they'd win the division, didn't they? They're about where I expected them to be right now, actually. I know they'd have rough stretches. I don't think the prediction to win the central was based on their pitching. To me, it was more an indictment of the rest of the division. Could be. Carpenter is a stud. I think everyone assumed that Mulder would be terrific. Suppan is ALWAYS steady. Marquis looked like a solid #4, and most folks figured that one of Reyes/Wainwright/Ponson would impress. I wouldn't say that the pitching looked great, but they certainly looked solid and deep. And, they may yet be. They certainly aren't right now. If by being a career .500 pitcher ( 100-98 ) with a career ERA of 4.68 means steady, which I suppose it could be, you are kinda right. But I don't think Suppan is a very reliable starter, IMHO.
  20. I'm quite surprised how bad Mulder has pitched. Only 4 quality starts out of 15. 18 HRS allowed and a 6.09 ERA. I thought he would have a good year......Meh, was I wrong.... #-o
  21. I'll be curious to see what Mauer's batting average is after this series.
  22. Ozzie Guillen will never change and will never get "it" because he doesn't care what "it" is. He could be forced to go to "sensitivity" counselling and read the Bible of Political Correctness and it still wouldn't matter. He just doesn't care. If he were suspended by MLB for his conduct (highly unlikely) he would just view himself as a martyr. To steal from SNL, baseball has been bery, bery good to Ozzie. He goes home to Venezuela and thumbs his nose at The PC American media and is a hero because of his self-proclaimed macho-ism. He is not a leader of men he is simply a manager of a baseball team. Somewhere right now he is laughing his a** off about all of this.
  23. B/c he's very negative about the White Sox. Their fans hate his guts. On whitesoxinteractive.com, any thread about his news is marked as spam and labeled, "latest nonsense from media troll Moronotti." I was under the impression that Sox fans hated Mariotti a tad less than Cubs fans seem to, but that was clearly mistaken. Everyone hates Mariotti. How else can you explain Kellerman leaving for FSN? Meh, Pedro, Kellerman didn't leave ATH b/c of Mariotti......he wanted Prime Time.....like Deion....Prime Time.
  24. I thought for certain this thread was a joke &/or from The Dugout. Jim Bowden as Commish......  For sure he would extend beer sales until the game was over, even extra innings.
