  1. Between the success of Willis and Sisco alone at the major league level, there is, at the very least, a very real question about this organization's ability to identify talent that will translate to the major leagues. Hell, you can include Garland as well from an organizational standpoint. A couple of guys in Cy Young discussions for their respective leagues, along with perhaps the best non-closing reliever in the AL for much of the year, for what? Sure, Clement was an integral part of 2003 success, but Goony earlier identified the fact that that season's success was in large part due to mediocre opponents.
  2. Under no circumstances should they have offered arbitration.
  3. Agreed.
  4. So, with a Pierre and possible Jacque in the outfiled, is it safe to assume a trade is in the works for French sounding Matt LeCroix? Maybe an unretirement of Dante Bichette?
  5. I understand that Mueller demanded that they go back to the pillbox hats.
  6. I thought it was in late May. But, considering I also initially thought it was in Wrigley, my recollection of the incident may be a bit off.
  7. I thought it was the slide into the revolving sign at Busch that really did him in? That was a nasty injury. Thats right! Thanks for the help.
  8. I'm still angry about that slide into the Wrigley bricks that essentially ruined his Cub career.
  9. Unfortunately, I think the answer to this query has been borne out time and again.
  10. The one thing nobody can take away from Williams is that he has been aggressive in improving his team. At the same time, he has tempered his aggressiveness, for the most part, with not being overly aggressive and needlessly disposing of quality prospects (see, Sisco). I don't follow the Sox that closely, but I like a GM that sticks his nose in every deal to look to see if there is a fit for his club. While aggressiveness doesn't in and of itself prove a thing, aggressiveness combined with results/an improved team is demonstrative of a good executive, IMO.
  11. Tejada making like his remarks were misconstrued makes him seem like a better employee, and may make more teams interested in him as well. That doesn't make sense to me. If a team inquired about Tejada and found he was still available, wouldn't they know that his remarks were just a ploy? Its about the desperation of the club that goes to the value you can expect in return. It has a very real effect on negotiations.
  12. Or it could be an indication of how little MLB GM's value the addition of Bradley to their team. The mid-level prospect the Dodger's received was probably pretty close to the best offer they saw from any team. Place Bradley's stats, talent and age on any other outfielder and they would offer a much higher return. When considering the baggage Bradley brings along...........the value plummets. I'm glad Hendry stayed away. has hendry proven to be a better gm than beane? i don't think so. Billy Beane hasn't won anything! He's no better than Hendry! Its a good thing you don't run the Cubs! You love Moneyball! DePodesta failed! Riccardi is a spendthrift! Epstein was secretly fired because he was inept! Stop the Beane manlove! Its the standard anti-Beane stuff I usually receive. I thought you might enjoy it, Abuck. What a victim! Oh, I'm no victim. Never meant to be one. I was just having some fun with Abuck. I do think, however, that Beane usually gets held to an unfair standard by his detractors.

  15. I have no faith in Levine. None. I think he is pretty worthless to be honest. However, nobody should be shocked that Tejada is still on the table despite the public "recsision" of his trade demand. Its in the best interests of both parties (Tejada and the Orioles) to make nice. This is something the Cub organization doesn't grasp. The Orioles get vastly better trade leverage if Tejada publicly backs off his trade demand. At the same time, Tejada's wish to be traded increases in likelihood if the Orioles can get commensurate value for him, which can only be done if Tejada appears content in Baltimore. Just because the Cubs air all of their dirty laundry in public doesn't mean its the proper way to run an organization or make a trade.
  16. Baltimore has been using co-GM's for at least a year now. I think one of those clowns got "downsized" recently. Co-GMs is a terrible idea. The only way it makes sense to me is if each has clearly delineated roles that preclude them from stepping on each other's toes. It seems like a recipe for disaster.
  17. Just curious, but why is it so unreasonable to move Dopirak? Mind you, I was a Dope fan three years ago when he was largely left for dead and then had his breakout year. While he struggled last year, I still expect him to play better. However, his success has still not been realized above A ball to date. Further, his defensive liabilities have made him more valuable to an AL team. Therefore, unless the DH is implemented in the NL within the next few years, I see no reason why he isn't dangled in trade talks, particularly since DLee seems entrenched for the foreseeable future at 1B. I'd still consider moving Z for Tejada in some manner.
  18. I defer to the last syllable in Pavano.
  19. :offtopic: Not really. Davis apologists will put far too much weight in a victory over an undermanned UK team simply because he hasn't beaten them in 6 years. UK stunk today. You are not a Mike Davis fan, I take it? Having personally met him twice, I can attest that he is a sincerely nice guy. But, he isn't a good coach. TFor the most part, the players that play the best for him were developed under different coaches. Strickland has blossomed in the 2 spot, yet Davis didn't identify that until Wright left. (Unfortunately, Strickland also continues to lose the ball about 50% of the time he handles it.) But, I digress.

  21. That boat has sailed already, my friend. We didn't offer arby. Stupid out-of-port boats! For the record, I thought it was a poor move not offering arby regardless of any of this Tejada nonsense.
  22. Has anyone suggested trading ARam for Tejada, then signing Nomar for 3B? Just food for thought.
  23. While it gives me no pleasure to admit it, the refs are sure calling some curious calls IU's way.
  24. That midget point guard for Kentucky should really stop chucking threes. The rim is starting to get bent from all of the bricks...
