  1. Where does Pittsburgh rank in revenue with the likes of Oakland, Minnesota, Cleveland and Florida? I have no idea, but I wager they are on the same side of the scale.
  2. Isn't Pittsburgh actually on the upswing? Everything I heard about their young players, and what I saw from their young pitchers, leans toward the postion that the Pirates may have a shot a renewed respectability. With a productive farm system, good things can happen. Look no further than Milwaukee. I wouldn't consider Nomar washed up anyway. There is no arguing that his injuries over the last two years have made him a risky bet, but his bat is still potent. If he is resigned to the fact that SS is no longer in his future, at least on a full time basis, Nomar still can have tremendous value. I don't think washed up fits for either entitiy.
  3. I agree from what I've heard and read. Who do you think is the most reliable writer in Chicago when it comes to trades? Bruce Miles, although he sacrifices breaking the big story for reliability. I appreciate that after all the Bruce Levine disasters. Agreed. Miles' credibility almost makes it as if a story does "break" when he confirms it. It never bothers me when Miles is scooped, as I genereally won't believe it until confirmed by Miles.
  4. Its not such an impermissible question. Afterall, nobody is required to respond. If a poster is curious about another poster's background, I don't see why they should be precluded from asking. Of course, it is "buyer beware" with regard to whether you choose to believe it or not. It certainly isn't unheard of for people to lie on message boards, even this one. I didn't find the question to be offbase in light of the topic.
  5. Pal, I have 400 posts on a message board, that's what you know of me. Leave it alone. Exactly the reason I'd guess he asked more information about you. Whatever. If I was a janitor my opinion on the Cubs is less insightful than yours? Now, be careful. I just put 2 and 2 together. I never said anything about who you were or the value of your opinion either way. But, the question in your immediate response avoids and diverts the issue you were discussing with M&P. You were talking about an issue relating to financial concerns of a corporation. Therefore, a degree in international business would lead one to a fair inference that you would likely have more experience/knowledge on the topic than others, including a janitor. Don't get so worked up that you start lashing out at everyone.

  7. How in the world can anyone advocate for overpayment of just any player? Budgetary concerns are very real. Implications on future budgets, financial flexibility in-season, and blocking future, cheaper talent are all facets that must be considered when toying with the idea of "overpayment". To simply throw caution to the wind and ignore the implications of overpayment of players is ridiculous. EDIT: I edited the first sentence because it did not convey what I was trying to say originally.
  8. Are you also suggesting that the Crash Test Dummies perform the 7th inning stretch?
  9. Over the last three years (yeah, the ones in which his has allegedly "figured it out"), Clement boasts a 4.13 ERA. He has an attractive WHIP around 1.28 during that period, but coupling that with his .239 BAA doesn't constitute a $9.5M salary to me.
  10. Stanford students must be pining for a new mascot.
  11. Been there, done that. Clement is now a known quantity. And, at his price tag and with his inconsistency, he simply isn't worth it, IMO.
  12. The CF joke was in regards to Furcal, not Giles. I think the Yankees are legitimately interested. Torre wouldn't be calling on their bahalf if they weren't. I personally don't think Giles wants to play there, but he'll use the Yankee offer to try to up the ante for other teams. Even Paul O'neil called him. Do you think Paul O'Neil promised to hit 2 home runs for him? Maybe one...but two? You can't just hit two homeruns. Do you know how hard it is to hit a homerun? How'd you get in here anyway?
  13. This thread should be renamed The Ghost of Mike Remlinger.
  14. I'm talking about how incredibly immature it is of you to threaten to bump this thread to try and humiliate people who have a different opinion of yours, and how incredibly hypocritical it is of you to react the way you did when somebody asked if you'd do the same if the opposite were to happen. I don't recall you taking this tone a few months ago. Consistency is essential in debate. I think one of the mods already stepped in and asked that the topic be dropped a little later in the thread.
  15. Not to mention the fact that their freaking mascot is a tree. Sweet continuity, mensa factory.
  16. Hendry just wants to wait until December 24th so it's like a christmas present for everyone. He's very thoughtful that way. Perhaps he'll do the Epstein thing and go split a bird with Giles on Thursday. That way, he can get some family time with Marcus, too.
  17. I hope he has found a new pilot. Neifi could fly him around in that new private jet he just bought with the Cubs money. I don't believe Neifi has a pilot's license. However, I'm sure he could just peek over at the co-pilot to get the handle of it.
  18. I don't think there is much in the works. Back in the '80s, there was some talk of relocating a team to Indy and a feasibility study was done, IIRC. This was shortly after the Colts move, so there was some minor momentum. In fact, I think they may have even floated a name (the Indianapolis Arrows?). I think it would be a difficult market with regard to current MLB expectations. Not to mention the fact that it sustains a very nice AAA facility presently. However, I don't live in Indy, so I'm sure there are people with more info than me.
  19. I chose "Other". The Other category for me includes any name denoting plural without using an "s" at the end. The Miami Heat. The Chicago Fire. However, the Crimson Tide gets a waiver, largely due to the Gene Hackman/Denzel Washington submarine thriller.
  20. WILD STALLIONZ! :music1:
  21. The Idaho Bags Wait for it...
  22. He lists the Cardinals, Mariners, Dodgers, and Yankees as suitors. No mention of the Cubs. It appears Giles's price is a minimum of 3/30. Why we won't go that high is a mystery, but according to Rosenthal (sketchy source I know), the Padres are out. I also found it interesting that Jacque Jones has set his price at 6-8 million a year. No way would I pay that much for Jones. Think Hendry might?? :ohnoes: Does Neifi wear high socks?
  23. I have always wondered if Boston could accomodate 2 teams. I was a big advocate of temporarily relocating the Expos to Boston instead of that ridiculous Puerto Rico experiment. After all, Boston does have some National League ties historically. In addition, its a baseball rich region. I dare say that the Red Sox fan base would likely remain safe due to its militance.
  24. If they move to Vegas, what are the chances they sign Farnsy for closer? :D With Furcal as his private driver.
