  1. Actually, Macias is decently fast. he just has no baserunning instincts. Macias isn't skinny. He is like a short little bowling ball.
  2. I'd rather hit myself in the face with a frying pan for a few hours. LOL. I needed a good laugh today.

    Cabrerra

There have been criticisms about Cabrera's work ethic as long as I can remember. To me, Cabrera is just very immature yet. We all know people that mature a little slower than others. For whatever reason, when we see it in an athlete, its more difficult to accept.
  4. Cacique Macias
  5. Transition year? This was a transition year only due to Hendry's making. You don't increase payroll in a so-called transition year. The moves made by Hendry, in his mind, were designed to compete this year. Lets not make it sound like he didn't have resources to work with. -He devalued Sosa, in part, due to his handling of the situation. -He re-signed Macias (with a raise) -He failed to replace Alou's production -He was content to replace Sosa with a favorite of his, Jeromy Burnitz -He failed to assert his will of Dempster closing from the outset -His Sisco gamble was a complete failure -His handling of the 40 man roster was questionable -He failed to shore up the bench -He failed to shore up the bullpen (for the second straight year) And that was just his offseason! Hendry has had a less then spectacular run just since October 04. I don't understand how he gets a pass for a "transition" year when the payroll (which he controls) continues to rest around $100M.
  6. For what its worth, if the Cubs went .500 during their 7, 7 and 8 game losing streaks, they would have an additional 11 wins and leading the Wild Card race.
  7. Just re-sign Nomar. Every post I see mentioning Furcal makes me queasy. I'd much rather have Nomar at SS with Cedeno backing him up. If leadoff is such a concern (though it shouldn't be with Walker around) then bring in someone like Lofton for a year since there is such an intent to get rid of Patterson. He is really the only CF that makes sense, considering Pie's march to Wrigley. Of course, you could get a proven winner like Bernie Williams. It all comes down to spending money the right way. 4/$32M for Furcal is frightening to me. While I think Giles is unattainable, this wouldn't be a bad lineup if is could be had (and Lofton doesn't play like a 39 year old speedster with age catching up): Lofton Walker Lee Giles ARam Nomar CPatt/Murton Barrett Your bench would include Murton/CPatt, Cedeno, Hairston, Blanco, OF and IF. There is no reason to use every red cent the Trib has if it means attaching this team to mediocre players for the long term.
  8. I had this all lined up and ready to go. You beat me to it. Allow me to add this nugget: I can't even follow half of this. You oversleep sometimes, but get up too early other times, all because of day games? I suppose he blames Steve Stone for the Sun.
  9. As long as his salary is no more than $3M, and the duration of contract is 1 year, this should be a no brainer move for the Cubs - Hendry and Baker like Lofton, and he likes them. They are all about the same age, aren't they?
  10. At the same time, disclosures made among non-treating personnel subject individuals to violations. Just because the Cubs organization isn't a healthcare treater doesn't mean they can freely discuss the mental/physical condition of their player. By the Cubs saying that they are considering addressing it with Corey, they are walking a thin line. Mind you, I am not a HIPPA expert. But, I have worked enough with it to know that it isn't fine tuned and both medical professionals and litigators are still finding their way because of how sweeping the HIPPA laws are. I'm not saying you are wrong, just that there is plenty of room for interpretation still out there on the subject.
  11. I'll go even further, I don't know why he was ever re-signed. Because he is Dusty's Everything Guy. Sheesh. How many times does he have to say it?
  12. Interesting observation, Tim. Mental health records are even more difficult to secure than regular health records. Most often, such records require court hearings to make them available for litigation. Mental health records are highly privileged and the new HIPPA laws subject both the health care providers, as well as the disclosing individuals, to possible litigation.
  13. Sun-Times Says Baker is exploring the psychology option.
  14. Ironic that the guy with the alleged fragile make up has to deal publicly with all of these issues regarding trade talk, Winter Ball, psychologists, etc. The Cub organization makes me scratch my head.
  15. Yikes. Where would that package start? Mitre, Hill, Marshall, Walker, Harvey...
  16. Would Chipper really be that difficult to move?
  17. Just watch. The Cubs will let him go and stick Cedeno at 2B. After Cedeno struggles a little bit adjusting to a new position and the Cubs realize they have poor lefty-righty balance in the lineup, they will try to re-acquire Walker during the season after he signed a heftier deal.

    So, Bruce...

-- October 20, 2003 That was the date that the phrase was coined.
  19. What about his run-in with Carlos Lee? Though not serious, wasn't he also injured last year?

  22. Big Mac? That's pre-Beane and pre-"Moneyball" though, isn't it? I thought Beane was in on the trade to St. Louis, but I could easily be wrong.
  23. Big Mac?
  24. Maddux has given up 97 earned runs in 210.2 innings. There are a ton of different calculations you could do. But, if he were to pitch 5 and 5 shutout innings in each of his next two starts, respectively, his ERA would be down around 3.95 if I calculated correctly. If he gave up 1 run total in either of those outings, he would be sitting at 3.99.
