  1. (!!) I'm putting the over/under on Yanksfan's age at 16 (!!) I'm taking the WAY OVER on this one!
  2. And sign with the Cubs Tuesday we could never be so lucky Yeah, it would take until at least wednesday for Hendry to get off his arse and call the agent. But isn't it already monday in Japan? The article says that he can't sign until Wednesday at the earliest. Wednesday works for me................ you?
  3. i'm pretty sure A-Rod ends up with the Angels. It's a good team, and the media scrutiny is like 5% of NYC Plus a billionare Latino owner in a heavy latin market. Angels are the best fit for A-rod. But since when has Boras ever put his client in the best place for them? Kevin Millwood, Jeff weaver, and now ever Kenny Rogers all left places they were comfortable for the money. A-Rod does not care about where he plays, he is in it for the contract status. Plus Moreno has said it does not make good business sense to put 20-25% of the payroll into one player. While I think A-Rod would bring the Angels twice what they pay him in revenue, will they go 10 years on a contract? How can you say A-Rod doesn't care where he plays? If this were all about money, he'd have signed a huge contract already with the richest team in baseball, who also enjoyed a $72 million subsidy for his services. Boras knows this, and since all Boras wants is money for A-Rod, it seems that A-Rod overruled Boras. Now, if you made the argument that A-Rod only cared about staying away from New York, I'd buy that. The Yankees asked to meet with him to offer a reported 5yr 150 million extention. It wasn't enough according to Boras. If he cared where he played, why did he go to Texas in the first palce? He loves Lou Piniella, he should have stayed in Seattle with Lou and that team. He went to Texas for the money. I absolutely refuse to believe he walked away from the richest team in baseball in search of more money, when this richest team in baseball had $72 million free dollars with which to negotiate. $72 million? I'm lost. I thought Texas only had close to 27 million owed to ARod? No Boras client has ever not opted out when they had the opportunity. J.D. Drew is a perfect example last year. And we all knew he was going to Boston before he opted out. I hope ARod doesn't get more money then he did from Texas (10/252), but I have no doubt that that is exactly what he and Boras plan on trying to get.
  4. I love Pie's potential. From what I saw of him in the ML when he played, it almost looked as if he was trying to be too disciplined at the plate at times. I thought it was obvious that the Cubs coaches where talking to him about his plate discipline/selection and he seemed to be watching too much. He's always been an aggressive hitter. And he's always been a streaky hitter. The only way Pie will succeed with the Cubs is if they throw him out there and let him play. I don't think he's the type of player that is going to excel in limited playing time. For that reason, I think the Cubs must add a big bat. Most logically it would be in RF, but I would prefer SS. If the Cubs can do that I think they should put Pie in CF and leave him there. Bat him 8th and let him grow into the player he can be.
  5. Kobayashi's stats He doesn't look that great!
  6. Players should not be allowed to do that. Ichiro started that, I hate it. Are you trying to be offensive, or just don't know any better? How is that offensive?
  7. Well, I called that one wrong on the FA contest.
  8. WOOOOOO ILLINOIS!!!!!!! What a GREAT game! If they beat Northwestern next week, that's a 9-3 season! What a turnaround for Zook! And it can only help his recruiting nationally. I was looking forward to this season, but this I couldn't have imagined a season or game like this!
  9. I agree. My point is that that's not a whole lot better than Zito's for a MUCH better pitcher. Edit: I see that above I stated he wouldn't get that. Probably too conservative on my part. I could see the length of the deal going all the way up to 10 years as well. My first thought is who would be how many teams are going to go after him? I can see LAD, LAA, NYM, and NYY for sure. Maybe the BoSox depending on what happens with Lester/Buchholtz. The Cubs may be involved IF new ownership is in place. Even if you get 2 of those teams bidding back and forth. He could top 200 million total on a deal, IMHO.
  10. Here's the breakdown on Zito's deal: Barry Zito p 7 years/$126M (2007-13), plus 2014 club option signed as a free agent 12/06 (largest-ever pitcher contract at signing) 07:$10M, 08:$14.5M, 09:$18.5M, 10:$18.5M, 11:$18.5M, 12:$19M, 13:$20M, 14:$18M club option ($7M buyout) option vests with 200 IP in 2013 or 400 IP in 2012-13 or 600 IP 2011-13 if 2014 option vests, Zito may opt out & receive $3.5M buyout full no-trade clause award bonuses: Cy Young award: $0.5M for winning once, $0.75M for 2nd time, $1M each for 3 or more ($0.2M for placing 2nd in vote, $0.15M for 3rd, $0.1M for 4th, $50,000 for 5th) MVP: $0.25M for winning, $0.15M for 2nd place in vote, $0.1M for 3rd, $75,000 for 4th, $50,000 for 5th WS MVP: $0.2M Gold Glove, All Star selection or LCS MVP: $0.1M each perks: suite on road trips 4 years/$9.3M (2002-05), plus $8.5M 2006 club option $8.5M 2006 option became guaranteed 8/05 when Zito hit IP vesting mark $0.4M signing bonus 02:$0.5M, 03:$0.9M, 04:$2.7M, 05:$4.8M, 06:$7M club option escalators: 2004: $0.1M for 400 IP 2002-03, $0.2M for 420 IP 2002-03 2005: $0.7M for 540-630 IP 2002-04 2006: $0.2M for 570 IP 2002-05, $1.25M for Cy Young 02-05 $50,000 All Star bonus signed extension 5/02, replacing 1 year/$0.295M deal for 2002 1 year/$0.24M (2001) drafted 1999 (1-9), $1.59M signing bonus agent: Scott Boras (re-hired 7/06, replacing Arn Tellum) (had fired Scott Boras late in 2001 season) ML service: 6.072 Assuming Santana makes more, I would think it his contract would be somewhere around: 09:$18M, 10:$18M, 11:$20M, 12:$20M, 13:$22M, 14:$22M, 15:$25M, 16:$25M club option ($8M buyout) Would total 8/160. I think that's probably reasonable for Santana.
  11. well no one thought A-Rod would get more than the 10/150 or so he was offered by the Mets when Hicks threw the 10/250 think out there out of left field Agreed. You never know. All you need is one CRAZY owner!
  12. Has he even become a FA yet? I haven't heard if he's filed. It would be nice if it were true

  14. Welcome to NSBB! I think you're our first Yankees fan. Thanks, can't wait for baseball season!! I want to start arguing with cbbryan about Kerry Wood being in Yankee pins!! And yes Chuck, it does feel like 100 years since the Yankees won!! Eww, you're friends with cbbryan. LOL! And to think I just added you to my friends list Raisin!
  15. I'd take either over Clemens at $18 per even if it's pro-rated!
  16. It's a great deal for Philly. I'm not sure what it does for Houston. I guess that's good for Cub fans though.
  17. I agree. I'm suprised they didn't get more from Philly in return.
  18. If you consider Woody a FA, then yes! I think Wood will get a similar deal that Demp is playing with now to close next year.
  19. IMO, this may be just a tool to remove an uneffective Demp from the closer role without causing a problem. Sign Woody and give him incentives for games finished and announce him the closer. Then you suffer through a couple Dempster starts, he loses his spot in the rotation because of ineffectiveness, but by then you can't justify taking away the closer position from Wood. Dempster them becomes best friends with Scott Eyre and we'll hardly ever see the two of them pitch.
  20. Does this make Demp more tradable? If so, I'm all for it!
  21. WFAN is reporting that Rivera is close to signing a 3yr/40million extention. The funny thing is Rivera asked for a 4yr/40million dollar deal during the season and the Yanks and they declined to talk during the season. I guess that decision is going to cost them 10 million!
  22. If the Cubs were to pick up Drew, they should absolutely commit to Pie. I think they should anyway, but if they sign/trade a big bat this offseason Pie should get the nod in CF everyday.
  23. No, No, and LOTS MORE NO!!!!! [-X Sign or trade for a good SS or RF and FREE PIE!!!!
