I think the only thing that would be possible would be Littlefield laughing his butt off right before hanging up the phone. Yeah, cause the Pirates have been such suave deal-makers in the past. And laughing and hanging up on people is most likely how professionals go about their business. Since when was Jacque Jones viewed as the equivalent of Adam Dunn on this board? Duke is better than Hill, discussion is ridiculous. Just because Littlefield has made dumb trades in the past doesn't mean he will make this one...Hendry has made some very horrible ones as well. He's not, hence the discussion of prospects and players like Marshall.

    I think Hidalgo has a much better chance of being useful than Grissom....and if he did pan out he would be MUCH more useful than Grissom could have been. Low risk/ high reward.

Just because the pirates are willing to trade Duke for an OF, doesn't mean they will trade him for ANY OF. I really doubt that. Jones had a really good year and the Pirates dont seem to be smart.

    The more I think about this, the more I hope it becomes a possibility. The guy is only 23, he could end up being very good.

    Hell, the Cubs could afford to pay all of Jones' salary and still save money over signing Meche or Lilly.

    That would be incredible, I just have a feeling they would ask for a lot more than Jones considering they were asking Dunn for Duke.

    $15 million per year? That is crazy. I think it's even crazier that the Astros would hear that and counter. i don't think the astros have any other choice. besides oswalt and possibly backe, who else is intimidating in that rotation? they need another anchor in that staff and pettite is/was their man to do that. with clemens (again) possibly out of the picture (again), their starting five is extremely weak. it's that or dump the money they would've spent on pettite and clemens the year before on some second-tier starter like meche or lilly. speaking of salaries and the astros...how much do they have available to spend this offseason? we all know the contract given to carlos lee, but with bagwell's contract officially off the books and however much they spent on clemens last year (i doubt he comes back) and also the $16+ million on pettite, what's the cash left over for free agents? They probably have quite a bit, but who's left to spend it on? Zito and Schmidt are pretty much the only good FA's left. If Pettite and Clemens arent back, the Astros might be extremely weak this year.

    Where would Kearns play? Kearns and Church can platoon in CF. Then when Pie is ready switch that platoon to RF and put Soriano at 2B.

    Do you value Mr. BB himself Carlos Marmol anywhere near Hill? Hill is ready to go NOW. Marmol has great stuff but is still a year or two away IMO. Strangely enough I put Mateo over Marmol RIGHT NOW. Hill > Veal > Gallagher > Pawelek > Guzman > Marshall > Marmol > Ryu > Mateo Hendry should offer the last 4 on that list for Church and Kearns. And btw, the only thing I would change about that list would be switching Mateo and Ryu.

    Sign me up for Jews for Church. He can hate my matzah eating arse all day as long as he puts up some numbers. I think this is getting really ridiculous. Someone told him that Jews are going to hell and from what i can tell, his heart went out to them. How does that turn into him hating Jews? If he would have said, "good, let 'em burn" that would be something you could get on his case for. Some Christians think all Jews go to hell, some Jews think all Christians go to hell (and yes, many Jews do believe in a hell or something similar). Thats the situation we're in. Sorry to go off on a rant, but the Church-mocking is getting out of hand.

    I'd be willing to bet that happens everywhere, other teams just dont make a spectacle of it like Baker did. i totally agree...baker was always brining it to the forefront...he was more worried about being booed and his boys being booed than winning games Anything to take the attention away from him sucking.

    He's better than any of the 2nd tier FA's and he'll only cost 5.5M. I dont know of anyone better we could get for Jones.

    Michaels, yes it was a bad year. Most stat sites give you the option of seeing career stats, you should check it out. Wilkerson has had injuries, though I never really wanted him. My question is why would you bring those guys up in a discussion about Church? Look at his stats, Michaels and Wilkerson are not a factor in his stats. I know what career stats are thanks. The reason I brought them up is because they all fit the mold of guys who are entering their prime with decent power and high-OBP who are somewhat under the radar that this board falls in love with. However, both went out and stunk last year. I'm asking what makes Church different from those guys. Also, Michaels never had a full-time role for a whole season (never had 300 ABs even). Same with Church. I apologize for getting catty, I just dont see the connection. A couple guys who have some similarities to Church that had bad years doesnt really mean much to me.
