Interesting. If Lou is dead set on a lefty in the 2 slot here I'd rather see what Pagan could do there than Izturis. Pagan's not an option for the two spot on a regular basis though-it's Murton, Jones, DeRosa, or Izturis-Piniella said he is looking for patience there and the ability to hit fastballs and hit the ball to all fields. I don't mind Izturis there for now-if he shows those abilities, then that's great. If he doesn't, let's find it out in ST and not during the regular season. Wouldnt Floyd be better at the 2 spot than Jones? Murton and Floyd could just share the 2-hole (oh goodness, I am soooo funny). I think Lou feels the Floyd has bigger upside in the 5th spot when both he and Jones start. Yeah, but Floyd has the things Lou's looking for (patience) and Jones doesnt.

I think guys like Veal, Guzman, Gallagher, and Samardzija are the key to this being possible. If one of them can turn out to be ace material and at least one more can be a 2 or 3 guy, the Cubs can afford to get rid of Zambrano, Prior, and Lilly/Marquis. So if a couple of those guys are ready by next year, I think it could work. Of, if one of them seems ready at midseason, it coule even work this year. Zambrano and Lilly would pay for ARod, especially if Izturis is thrown in. So, best case scenario I think would be trading Z and Izturis for ARod and unloading Lilly on someone.
