  1. I think Church and Gross are much better options. Kearns would be good too, but he's a rightie.....but the thought of a Church/Kearns platoon in CF makes me poop in my pants.
  2. How many games was ol' gimpy able to play last year? Kenny's not a full time player anymore. 129 games. It seems like the only CF options would be Lofton, Lugo or Pie....am I missing someone very very obvious here? Ryan Church or Gabe Gross I would love for the Cubs to get Church, but what happens to Pie, if the Cubs could get Church? He takes Church's spot when he's ready and Church becomes a great 4th outfielder....or Soriano moves to 2B and Church goes to RF.

Ryan Church or Gabe Gross Man, either of those guys would fit our needs so well and they're both making league minimum or near it. Someone tie a note to a rock and throw it through Hendry's window.
  4. Yeah, and I'm fairly confident that if you let Marshal, Guzman, Marmol, Mateo, and Gallagher compete for a spot in ST, the winner would have a season somewhere between nearly as good, to much better than Lilly. One Lilly-esque pitcher would be understandable, but two would be a complete waste of money. Just get someone who can make a difference (Schmidt, Zito, Jenning, Penny, maybe Westrook) and let some kids fight for the fifth spot.
  5. Put me down! I am down! That could quite possibly be the worst trade I've ever heard (from the Mets standpoint). I know Milledge is good, but I dont see why he is so highly touted. He seems good, but nowhere near great. .828 OPS in the minors this year. 837 last year, pretty good patience, little power. Seems about the same level as Pie and about the same age, yet Milledge is talked about as a superstar and Pie as nothing that special. All that said, I wouldnt think about trading him for Buerhle or Vazquez
  6. This is one of those times where I really wish Hendry would check out this board. I really doubt Church is on his radar, and I think he is just what we need. I think he would be a much better option than Jones, and fits the team's needs much better. He is a very patient hitter, costs next to nothing, and would be a great 4th outfielder when Pie is ready. I would really like.... Soriano Murton Lee Ramirez Church Barrett Lugo DeRosa
  7. I'd move Lee out to left, Murton to right, Jones to center, Soriano to 2nd, DeRosa to short. And then I'd trade for Miggy Cabrera. Instead of a pitcher, he'll play a rover position between the IF and OF. The hitters will have to throw the ball up and hit it themselves. I love when games have a force trade option...It gives me such a feeling of power.
  8. I worry how Zito would perform in the small parks in the NL Central. I dont really understand all the people that say Zito's been helped by pitching in Oakland when his career ERA on the road is .22 lower. This year his away ERA was 2.97 compared to 4.71 at home. And a good chunk of his away games would be at places like Texas.
  9. Ideally it'd be good to have some lefties in the lineup, but I'd rather just have the 8 best hitters. For example, I would much rather trade Jones than Murton , even though he's our only left-handed hitter right now. Jacque had a higher OPS in 2006 and his RC/27 was slightly higher than Murton's. Jacque also had a higher VORP rate. Murton was certainly a better value last year, but he wasn't clearly a better hitter than Jacque last year. Of course I don't expect Jacque to repeat his 2006 performance... Yeah, I wasnt just basing that off last year's stats. Jones had a much better than average season and it was Murton's first full season. And age and cost are definitely in Murton's favor.
  10. If you were 5 outs away from the world series and you went to catch a ball basically on the dividing line between the field and the stands that would make you 4 outs from the world series and some dude with stupid headphones knocked the ball away, you would, in the heat of the moment, stop to rationally think things through? You would stop to think, "Everyone makes mistakes, back to business as usually." and calmly walk away? Not saying Alou is excused, but thats an intense situation.
  11. I think Hudson is worth taking a gamble on, especially considering guys like Lilly will be making close to $10 million. I also think Jennings and Penny should be targets. I think with the players the Indians have signed recently, we no longer have anything they want, that we would be willing to give up for Westbrook. My goal would be to sign Schmidt and trade for Jennings or Penny, then have a rotation of: Zambrano Schmidt Hill Jennings/Penny Prior/Miller That'd be pretty solid.

  13. :?: :?: Kenny Lofton has made the playoffs 8 times, and the team has been eliminated every time. Some bad times include 2003 Cubs and 2004 Yankees. in other news, the Cubs have made the playoffs eight times - since 1932. Haha.....and the Cubs have made the playoffs 1/1 years with Lofton, 7/74 times without him in that span....I'd take my chances with him.
  14. I'd be happy with Gabe Gross in CF if we cant get Hall. I think we should trade for either him or Church.
  15. I wouldnt sign anyone til there's a player named Lava Monster.
  16. Apologies! Missed that. I almost didn't post on the grounds that this news is at least 3 days old, but I didn't thoroughly read existing Schmidt threads. Unforgivable
  17. Come on dude, he's obviously babying his "golden" arm so that he can make a bunch of money when he's a FA. Because the more he's out and the more his "golden" arm is preserved, the more value he has. Just look around, his value has sky-rocketed the last couple years!!!
  18. Oh great.... Aramis has decided to opt out and test free agency...this is just what we need.
  19. That's a real good rotation...when healthy. You really can't count on Beckett being healthy for a full year and Schilling has had some pretty serious injuries the last couple of years as well. But when that rotation is 100% and if they were to make the playoffs with all of those guys healthy, that would be an extremely dangerous rotation to face in a best of 5 and a best of 7. Their offense would take a huge hit if they trade Manny, though. Ortiz, Drew, and who else?I can't remember what's going on with their lineup, but I think they'd need a great staff. They have the OBP monster, Youkilis, they also have Varitek, Pena, Crisp, and Lowe. If they had that pitching staff, I think they're offense would be good enough. A lineup (as it would be now) something like: Crisp-CF Youkilis-1B Ortiz-DH Drew-RF Lowe-3B Pena-LF Varitek-C Cora-SS Pedroia-2B Not what they've had in the past, but not too bad. Do you mean Lowell? No, leave me alone Rob Lowe and Derek Lowe are platooning there. Theo believes that they both are due for breakout seasons His plan is to trade Manny to LA to re-acquire Derek, and sign Rob Lowe for 3 years and $215mil. Thank you. I didnt feel like explaining it to someone who obviously doesnt keep up with the transactions across the league.

  22. Washed up, done, AND finished.....dang. Somebody should have warned Carpenter. When he was 26 he had a 6.26 ERA in 175 innings. In 02 it was 5.28 in 73 innings, and he didnt pitch at all in 03. He was was probably just washed up and done though.
  23. They're looking at every possibility, including putting Jock there. Nothing is firm yet as trades take a lot more work than do free-agent signings. Ryan Church and Gabe Gross would be ideal candidates. Both would fit great in our lineup. Can Church play CF?
  24. From the quotes I've seen lately, Hendry didnt seem too excited about Igawa. So if the bid really is $25 million, I doubt its from us. But who knows.
