  1. I think every trade offer regarding the Mets involves Milledge and Heilman. I think thats a little much for the Mets to give up, but then again they must have really liked Victor Zambrano too.
  2. I don't have ESPN insider so I don't know exactly what they are talking but it says "Blue Jays shop holiday sale for Rios". I don't know if they are shopping Alex Rios, but if they are we need to get on this real quick and plug him in CF.
  3. I am hoping PSV or Ajax will show some interest in him.
  4. I think it will be good for him, and hopefully what will be his last season in MLS.
  5. It would have been interesting to have had Harrington and Josh Hamilton in our system at the same time.
  6. How much money should Ryan Howard make next season? MLB has a system in place, just cause the guy plays in another country doesn't mean the rules should not apply to him. If he wants to come play in the US that these same rules will apply to him. The problem is that he has very little leverage right now, and for the most part no rights. Imagine if he got the money he wanted and this was the year that Prior and Teixeira came out of the draft. What kind of money would they be demanding because of what Matsuzaka got.
  7. If I am not mistaken, this is exactly the kind of offer that he was projected to recieve before the posting period ended from any team. The offer is more than fair. Boston is not lowballing him by any stretch of the means, this is just typical Boras. He is not an arbi guy, and he is not a FA. To me this is more like signing a draft pick who is going to get a major league contract.
  8. Keep going. Not nearly enough. I know, but its much easier to stop :-). I'm willing to throw in their choice of Cedeno or Izturis :-)
  9. Jones and Marshall for Michael Young
  10. This is far more disappointing than anything the Cubs have done in he offseason for a while now. I am starting to have Steve Sampson flashbacks.
  11. Look at Suppan's innings over the past eight years and the rest of his stats over the past four seasons. He's been the model of consistency and is not at all the gamble the other SP's have been thus far. With Suppan you know what you're getting: ~190 IP ~110K ~60 BB ~4.00 ERA 31-32 Starts ~14 wins With the Cubs, you don't know that last one to be true. Also remember that he was with the Cards. Figure in the extra year of age and the change of scenery to the northside, and standard metrics project his numbers with the Cubs in '07 to be along the lines of: ~75 IP ~35K ~60BB ~6.35 ERA ~17 starts ~5 wins ~2.5 months on the DL So you're just going to throw numbers around arbitrarily? Those are based on absolutely nothing. All of the sudden his bb/K ratio is going to flip flop? Standard metrics couldn't possibly be more wrong if this is the case. So based on this theory, or metric, would Carlos Zambrano be a 30-game winner if he joined the cards? Would he then strike out 300 hitters because he was a cardinal? Would he be twice the horse and throw more innings (300?) while staying even more healthy? Yes, yes, yes and yes He would also win the MVP along with the Cy Young, promiting then teammate Albert Pujlos to say that only hitters should be allowed to win the MVP.
  12. Bummer. I thought it was done... Me too, especially the way ESPNews was talking. Still I think its just a matter of time.
  13. How do you know? You've done a revenue analysis? I haven't done a revenue analysis, but if average #4 starters keep getting 4/40 and Gary Matthew Jr. types keep getting 5/50 it looks to me like it will soon require a Yankees-size payroll to field an MLB contender. 1. Alex Rodriguez 25,680,727 2. Derek Jeter 20,600,000 3. Jason Giambi 20,428,571 4. Mike Mussina 19,000,000 5. Randy Johnson 15,661,427 6. Bobby Abreu 13,600,000 7. Johnny Damon 13,000,000 8. Hideki Matsui 13,000,000 9. Jorge Posada 12,000,000 10. Mariano Rivera 10,500,000 11. Carl Pavano 8,000,000 12. Kyle Farnsworth 5,416,667 13. Tanyon Sturtze 1,500,000 14. Mike Myers 1,150,000 15. Robinson Cano 381,100 16. Scott Proctor 353,675 17. Chien-Ming Wang 353,175 18. Andy Phillips 331,150 19. Wil Nieves 328,600 Total Team Salary: 198,662,180 When the Cubs have 10 guys on their roster making $10M per year, let me know and four guys making about $20M or more, let me know. Give it time. If this market holds up for 2 more years you're going to see an explosion of $10M+ salaries all over baseball. Unless we have a FA market like we did in 2000, I doubt it will. Bad contracts will force GM's to recind back to where the market was. I don't see this keeping up, unless MLB is post a much bigger profit than we know about.
  14. I'm feeling the pain. I bet if you were at their hotel you would be having a blast :-). If nothing else you could just sit at the bar and harass every GM that walked by
  15. I am pretty sure Jacque made said that after Baker was fired.
  16. That is just sick. I am scared to think of what Zito might get. It might become Hampton Part Duex.
  17. You're wrong. Dunn is NOT a hitter, he is a masher. Joe Mauer, Derek Jeter they are hitters, Dunn is not. Agreed, Dunn should used for scoring runs, not drinving in runs. While he is capable with the HR, that is pretty much it. I think we will see too many missed opportunities with Dunn at the #5 spot. Personally I would bat Murton 5th before Dunn.
  18. I've always thought that if Hendry is going to go after that type of hitter, not particularly patient, but potent toolsy guy, he might as well get the really good ones. I don't understand how people think he is on the decline? His splits are very even across the board. He would be great between Lee and Ramirez. It doesn't matter what his contract value might be right now, if Angelos wants him gone he will be gone.
  19. Is it just me or is this really blowing out of proportion? Its just you
  20. no, ESPN did not say that, they just reported the 3 year, $44M offer that was originally reported by a newspaper in SF. Its funny how when one rumor from one sourse gets spread into 10 rumors from 20 sources very quickly simply because people don't listen or read fully. Especially when everyone wants the rumor to be true.
  21. It's Bruce Miles, and all the other sites got their information from the San Fransisco Chronicle. They probably got their info from Schmidt's agent, which Bruce said was probably a false rumor that the agent thought up. I doubt that SI.com and ESPN would have it as such big news if there was only a blurb about it in the San Francisco Chronicle. Rotoworld, yes, but not SI or ESPN. And this is separate from Chronicle. Schmidt: just sign with us so we can know for sure. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/baseball/mlb/11/28/schmidt.cubs/index.html Thats from the main baseball page from a reporter over at SI.com It doesn't mention Chronicle. Schmidt: Just sign with us so we an stop wondering. Sports Center just used the Chronicle as their source. They must be a some what confidant in it, but its still a rumor.
  22. Seriously, are they extremly desperate. I would rather pencil in Kerry Wood as one of our 5 starters than pay 25 million for Igawa. Maybe I don't know enough about him, but I never thought the Cubs should go over $30 for Mat. so 25 for Igawa is crazy in that aspect.
  23. I don't think I would pay Zito more than 5/60. He will get more from the Mets and it will be a better deal playing in Shea as opposed to Wrigley. I would rather give up Pie to get Bonderman.
  24. hello understatement! I am a little curious to how much the past two managers played a role in this. But having a crappy team doesn't help either :-)
