I'm glad I didn't trade Arron Hill before the season like I was trying to :-). I just have a hard time benching Utley for Hill cause the moment I do I know Utley will break out.
  2. I could understand this if this was still the group stage, but not in the freakin quarterfinals.
  3. And he still looks like he's 17. He doesn't run like it anymore.
  4. Its good to see Ole Gunnar still playing. Easily my favorite ManU player ever.
  5. I still don't like him though. I do, oddly enough. I like the fact that he has an attitude problem, and that he then goes out and shows that he's playing at a completely different level. I'm still bitter from Holland's exit in the last WC.
  6. I still don't like him though.
  7. If Cuban posts the highest bid by far and doesn't get the team I would expect a serious backlash from the baseball community and talks of collusion against owners.
  8. I'm hoping to see something around 25 yards out from Rooney now ;-). I don't like United, just dislike all Italian clubs more.
  9. Roma doesn't even look like a UEFA Cup team right now. United should get a couple of real good counter chances in the next 22 minutes as well.
  10. I guess we know what motivates Santana. I just lost a lot of respect for him. That quote there represents alot of things that are wrong with professional sports today. yep because everyone i know would take a job for 10 bucks a hour instead of the 30 bucks a hour to do the exact same thing that someone else offered. Especially in Santana's position of being the best pitcher in baseball. You completely missed his point. It was not about money, it was about his negotiation style. He made a blatant threat. This is also the Twins though. I would not consider it a threat, he just put them on notice.
  11. If they show this game a 2nd time on Classic its going to be from one of the greatest comebakcs in Champions League history. Its probably going to be a very dull and boring match. It would be pretty cool to see 3 English teams in the semi's.

I'm glad Vlad was taken #1 overall. That made taking Dice-K very easy :-).
  13. Pretty cool US youtube video. I love watching Onyewu staring down at Borgetti. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ykp7MVRpx7E
  14. Yeah, the only reason I heard about it was ESPNNews submitted Wynalda's apology. I agree, I'm just saying it comes off lame on a blog. It sounded like he was drunk and pissed and was just talking out loud :-).
  15. I always liked him, just sometimes a little annoying as a commentator. I always figured he would say something like this about Mexico first. What an idiot. Nothing screams tool more than saying you can kick someone's ass on a blog. People need to realize that when people attack Rome, he just ends up being more beloved by his fans while the attacker looks like a jackass. Plus this just confirms Rome's stereotype that soccer players/fans are hoodlums and embarassments. PS, I love Wynalda, but this was dumb. I didn't think Rome had real fans. Statboy is worth more to ESPN. It shows a lot that ESPN doesn't even care about the incident. Rome has a Geraldo type public beating coming his way in the future. This isn't the first time Wynalda has said something to Rome, I don't think he would have a problem saying in front of him.
  16. I suddenly have a new found respect for Eric Wynalda :-) I always liked him, just sometimes a little annoying as a commentator. I always figured he would say something like this about Mexico first.
  17. I'm not reading all of the pages in today's thread, but just looking at Gamecast it looks that way. 8 K's in 5 innings already surpased any expectations.
  18. May it has shifted to another team. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2824569
  19. Anyone who buys the Cubs will be A) A Cubs fan B) Someone who wants the Cubs because they are profitable No prospective owner will care whether Soriano's OBP slips. If anything, he is a benefit because he is one of the most marketable, popular players in the league and will most likely remain so for the next few years. Soriano's popularity will disappear very quickly if he can't hack it in CF and puts up an OPS slightly above .800, as he did in TX for the 2 years before 2006. Then he'll be a barely above average corner OF who's owed another $126 mil. That's not something a buyer would consider attractive. Let's get real. A bad year from Soriano isn't going to deter people from buying the Cubs. Of course not, but it would put a big dent in the sale price of the club. Current projections of the Cubs' price don't include a player who looks like a $126M bust. I maybe just a little behind here, but shouldn't we wait to see how he works out before we call him a bust? I mean, he did have an ok spring, and Piniella has coached players similar to him (ala Ken Griffey power hitter and steals guy). Give him a chance, because if he's doing 40/40/40 again, it would be a huge boost to the sale. It's a two edged sword here. Not in the eyes of negativity.
  20. I really have never like Peter Crouch, but that last goal was pretty nice.
  21. But the $300 million in debt is spread over many years. The fact remains that our payroll is very reasonable for a big market team. Why would this be bad? If people are willing to spend upwards of $600 - 1 billion, I hardly think a 100-110 million dollar payroll would matter... Actually I would disagree that the $300M is a debt. What it actually is, is a liability. But the fact is that this franchise's assets more than make up for all the liabilities put together and so the Cubs as a franchise is most definitely NOT in DEBT. This team easily earns more than it spends every year even with a big market payroll and that is what any potential buyer/owner will look at. Yeah I'm aware the team is a profitable business. That's why people want to buy it. That $300M is definitely a debt though. Those are guaranteed contracts and those players will be paid that money, and I don't think most of these contracts could be moved without eating a large chunk of their value. I don't want to turn this into a Soriano-bashing thread but his contract alone would be enough to make me reduce my offer for the Cubs, since I believe it will become one of the great stinkbombs in the history of pro sports. The Trib better hope Soriano has a good year, because if he gets shifted to a corner OF spot and regresses to his TX numbers it will have a bad effect on the ultimate sale price of the team. So are players under contract not considered an asset?

Sadly I have you beat with Erik Bedard at a -11. Anyone have Contreras starting :-)?
  23. or urine
  24. YES! Notes from Phil Rogers Cuban can't afford droping a billion on the Cubs. Unless he gets partners. He's worth 2.3 Billion. I can't imagine him cutting his net worth in half. As a point, it wouldn't be cutting his net worth in half. It would be tying up half his net worth in one set of assets though. Given what he has turned his previous business ventures into I don't really see why he would worry. The bottom line is that it is still an investment, and he knows he will see a very good return on investment.
  25. with tebow running that offense full time? i don't think so. Tebow is much better than Leak was. His arm is stronger and more accurate, he makes better decisions, and his running ability isn't far behind Leak's either. Did you just say Tebow's running ability isn't far behind Leak's? Maybe that was sarcasm I'm not picking up on, but Leak couldn't run at all while Tebow is damn near a running back who can pass. The only thing that can knock off Tim Tebow is John Brantley, which is probably still a year away. They are loaded at QB.
