Cubs.com has Petrick on the active roster with Dempster going on the DL. This doesn't really add a bullpen arm though.

Got OU beating Texas, or Texas beating OU? I don't think we beat them unless one of our QB's plays mistake free. Seeing as how we're going to have either a true frosh or a RS frosh behind center, I doubt that happens. Of course, our O-Line should be really, really good, and we have a ton of talent at RB, so who knows. Maybe we can Nate Hybl them to death, in which case, the defense will have to shut them down. I know for sure that OU will be steady and in the thick of the race for the conference title. They are certainly not unbeatable, but the one thing they rarely ever do is beat themselves. Usually they are prepared and well coached. I think OU will squeak by Texas this year. Right now I would go with Texas simply because I know they can score a whole lot this year. I would however give the defensive edge to OU, as Texas is getting a lot younger this year on defense. If Jamaal Charles gets it going again I think Texas could run through the Big 12. They have a great recieving core as well. Sure, I can accept that. Texas' season will hinge on McCoy's performance. While he was good last year, his injuries and at times, consistency was the key. If McCoy can avoid the dreaded sophmore slump, and stay healthy, Texas got a good chance. Also same can be applied to Texas defense, especially pass defense where they got shredded week by week last year. I don't think consistancy was an issue until the shoulder injury. I don't know why they ran so many goal line sneaks with him last year like they did with Vince Young two years ago thus leading to his injury vs KSU. He added 15 lbs in the offseason so hopefully they will help him a lot. His 68.2 completion % with 29 passing td's far surpassed any expectations. If anything people might call his season a soph slump simply because he doesn't match last years numbers. If they can regain their rushing ability I won't be suprised to see his numbers take a slight hit.

looking for highlights since sportscenter blows I found this. The 2 minute mark shows Mexico at its finest against Lalas. The last scene says it all.

I got a beer shower from afar. my buddy Yoaav got a direct beer shower. i didn't even bust out the "Puto marquez" chant. For the most part the Mexican fans were really friendly. I had a few try and start something with me a few times, especially leaving the field. One guy cried when Benny's shot went in. That was a sodding rip. I still can't believe how perfect of a volley that was. In an unlawful country like Mexico it would have been very different ;-). Not to mention many more grown men crying after the US won.

Ching made a tremendous play to turn a defender and Sanchez, but then he blew the easy part and hit the post. Overall, today he did very well, and at the top of his game he can be very McBride-like. But he isn't consistently that way. Ching didn't look too bad, all in all. He missed an easy puppy, and still needs to learn to finish. I'd rather have Ching in there over Johnson or Twellman. I think the US needs to look at perhaps making Beasley a forward in the Thierry Henry mold. He's certainly got the pace for it, if not the finishing instinct. The defense still needs a lot of work. No one marked anyone. It seemed that on every corner Mexico got a head on the ball, but couldn't direct it goalwards. Gooch looked better and I though Spector did a decent job against a tough Mexico left side, but Bocanegra and Bornstein were less than impressive. Bocanegra looks better than he is, in many ways, because he does recover well, kind of like Hejduk. That said, the US should have won this game about 4-1. Mexico's first goal was terrible. The midfield and defense simply fell asleep and let Mexico run through, but Howard was unbelievable on that shot near the end. Mexico did enough for a goal (and perhaps two). On the Beasley muff, Donovan made a nice pass and hit Beasley in stride. That was a gimme goal. End of story. Ching's, while tougher, was also an empty net and should have scored. I have never seen Ching finish anywhere near at the level that McBride did on a regular basis. I've seen him put himself in position to, I just think McBride was very underappreciated for what he did at a very consistant level. i was more referring to the holdup and aerial play of Mcbride and less to the finishing. I will definitely concede the point that Ching can't hold a candle to McHead in that regard. Also, Bornstein gets caught out of position and overplaying constantly, and a lot of Mexico's offense developed from that. I'm interested to see what Pearce looks like in the Copa America. Missing today's game doesn't help me any. Not to metion not seeing highlights yet either :-(.

I fully expect the Cubs to suck me back in several more times through out this season. And probably get spit right back out as well.

I think the Sox were on Comcast today. The Cubs were on WGN. But you are right either way. He's embarrassing any station he is on. Yelling "That's BS!" is not exactly family programming, or unbiased announcing for that matter. It is for Sox fans :wink:

wow. Espn.com article on the game actually calls Brian Ching a carbon copy of Brian McBride. I'm sorry, but did he ever actually watch McBride play for the US.

Does anyone know if they are going to show this on tape delay any time, might just look for highlights? Got stuck at work all day so i missed it. Glad to see a come from behind win against mexico. This should make them suck it a little more than usual.

The rumor was also in regards to Griffey wanting to go to the Cubs, it had nothing to do with the Cubs being interested.

In June of '98 I got to work at a Michael Jordan basketball camp in Austin and got to talk with Stewert Scott for a while who happened to be their. All we really talked about was Sosa starting to heat up. And of course the NLCS HR. I watched that over and over again.

I long for the day we beat Mexico in their stadium. I can't even imagine what the reaction would be down there. It would be truly glorious. I fear for the safety of the US players if they beat them. Excellent point. They will be too busy lynching their coach and own team should the US win at Azteca. It honestly might not even take the mexican federation an hour to fire the coach after that game.

Why? I think its a very unattractive job. Isn't a characteristic of a good manager going into a mess of a situation and turing things around? I thing he(Girardi) turns alot of folks off with the whole "Waiting for the Yankee's job" thing. Most good managers don't go into real bad situations, and the O's are just that.

It shows his athletic ability, organizations use the SPARQ tests in baseball. Vertical leap is one aspect of it. It's useless info that tells us absolutely nothing about his ability to play baseball. Because athletic ability has nothing to do with baseball. Random athletic feats have nothing to do with baseball. It's like being able to jump over a car. Although winning your high schools slam dunk contest is even less impressive. The guy who won my high school slam dunk contest never played a minute of sports beyond high school. Don't get me wrong, I understand your point, but I fail to understand how being able to do any feat like that is unimportant to include on a player profile. Also keep in mind its a young kid, there's probably not pages and pages of material to work with here. I really dont see why it even matters. I don't mind knowing. I remember knowing Rick Wilkins was a state champion high school wrestler. It didn't mean anything to me, but when I met him in person way back when it was one of the first things I thoughh of just because he had Popeye sized forearms. Its just a tidbit to try to help the reader know more about the individual.
