  1. But really, this early? Especially when we need a TE? Horrible pick. I don't disagree that we need a TE, but lets see how the draft plays out. As of now, Pope still hasn't been drafted. Angelo isn't the greatest of GM's, but his success rate on drafting DB's is pretty good. Plus I think with Hestor's speed, he'll be used in many places.
  2. I like the pick of Hestor. Obviously his return ability is redundant with Manning, but I have a feeling the Bears will use him as a scat back in the offense. Little dump off passes and let him fly. If their intent is to place him at CB, not sure if that was a good pick.
  3. Personally I'd find this trade difficult to overturn. Yes, in a 5x5 format, Manny is probably better than Murton and Pierre combined. But from the looks of it, the guy wanting Murton and Pierre is a homer. He's a Cubs fan and wants players he likes on his team. Plus its a keeper league, Pierre and Murton could be Cubs for quite a few years while Manny is getting older. The trade could be fair depending on the league settings. If steals are weighted heavier, the trade could be balanced. I personally only like to overturn trades when I feel someone is cheating. Interpretation of how 'fair' the trade is really depends on the fantasy smarts of the team owners involved.
  4. Philosophy on keepers really depends on a lot of things: How deep the league? Do you have a salary? Do players have a contract status? Number of spots on a team? Overall, I think its good to identify your core keepers now, but who to cut ties with via trade really depends on where you stand in the league now and by the trading deadline. Based on your team, you should be able to get established veterans now and later for your young players. In my experience in keeper leagues (salaried, 5x5, 15 teams), lower tier teams will only trade for younger players because they're cheaper and can get more players in return. That of course depends on your league settings.
  5. I'm really pulling for Howie as I have him in my keeper league. The only knock on Howie right now is his defense, so initially the plan is to play him at DH and as a pinch hitter. I could see some spot starts at 2b. If his hitting is as good as advertised, they'll find a way to get him in that lineup.
  6. I agree, I REALLY like Thomas, but he's not a safe pick at all. Too much of his game reminds me of Tyson's. The Bulls need size, and unfortunately the only big with decent size is Aldridge. Its quite possible that Gay, Morrison, Thomas, and Bargani turn out better than Aldridge, but unfortunately the Bulls REALLY need to draft by need than potential in this years draft. The FA class is not that great and its unlikely that they will be able to pull off any major deals for a bigman.
  7. As it stands now (and for the past week or so), the Bulls second pick would be at 16, not 12 like it is in that draft. While we're at it, how does Portland have the 1st pick? Must be a clerical error over there. Portland has the worst record as of right now. Obviously its a temporary placement as the lottery will determine the real order.
  8. Hrm, well I guess it depends on the rest of your keeper league team. Can you afford taking a risk in Prior? Without of a question, if Prior comes back healthy he'll be by far and away a better fantasy option. Heck, I think Prior 80-90% healthy is comparable to Buerhle. If your team cannot afford a risk, I'd keep Buerhle. He's durable and you know what you're going to get. He'll get you 15-20 wins, a solid era, whip, and middle of the pack K numbers. He's not that exciting of a fantasy pitcher, but he's very steady. He's an ideal no.2/3 guy in a fantasy rotation.
  9. I agree - I haven't really enjoyed watching Aldridge as well. He's a very balanced player, but I don't see the intensity and fire as a Thomas or a Noah possess. But with that said, Aldridge does have the biggest body of those three players. Both Thomas and Noah are in the 220's, Aldridge has a good 20-30 pds on both guys. Not to say Thomas and Noah can't grow into their bodies, but it appears that Aldridge should have a leg up in guarding PF/C position immediately and in the future. For the Bulls, I'd personally wouldn't be psyched on any of these guys with a top 3 pick. But if I had to draft one and all three were available, it would be Noah. His intensity and smarts really make him a safe pick. You know he'll bring intense effort game in and game out. He'd fit in nicely with the Bulls. But for some reason, I can't see him being more than a Brian Grant. A guy who does 15 and 10 and brings hussle and intensity.
  10. Its a joke. They've been reporting as something 'real' on the Score and NBC news. I was watching NBC news this morning when they reported it, then they followed it up with funny commercial with Dutchie Carrey and Walter E Smithe. YOu should see different TV commercials throughout the day. You can actually see the whole ad campaign here: http://www.smithe.com
  11. Interesting squad. Its probably a bit too young for my tastes. With the assumption its a standard 5 x 5 roto, I think you'll compete offensively. Given the size of your bench, I assume its a pretty deep league. Pitching wise - you're probably a tad too young. No doubt Felix, Duke, and Reyes have talent, but its difficult to gauge how many innings and wins these young guys will log. The best part of your team is that you're in a keeper league. If you're in the hunt to win it by the trading deadline, i'm sure one of the bottom teams in the league will love you as a trading partner.
  12. I would too - unfortunately Mora is on someones keeper list.
  13. Completely agree - I'd rather go after Blalock too - and actually I still may. I have 2 UTL spots and a CI spot. The difficulty is how an auction will project, sometimes people will just WAY overbid on certain positions. I know Glaus isn't ideal at $24, but I know that Chavez, Arod, and Blalock will also be at least $10-15 more given that there aren't many premiere 3b's out there and the amount players in the league. I'm just worried about Glaus' health. If he's healthy - he provides upper tier power numbers. But $24 is a lot of invest in a guy who can be injured all year.
  14. I'm in a standard keeper auction league - 15 teams, $260 salary cap. Would you keep Glaus at a $24 value. 3b is at a premium, guys that are obviously better than Glaus and available for auction are: Arod, Blalock, Chavez. Each of these guys will probably be $30 or greater in an auction. Given the amount of players in the league at the premium at 3b, I'm leaning towards yes. Normally I'd say no given his past problems with injuries, but I'm thinking him being able to DH more will help. Any opinions out there Glaus?
  15. YOu can't stop Gullickson! Keep Tucker on the bench :) Seriously though - i've been really impressed with Gullickson. He reminds me of a young version of Wilkinson offensively. Hopefully he comes somewhat near as savy on the defensive end.
  16. This is true - Wisconsin lost 4 Significant players (Wilkinson, Morely, Hanson, Chambliss) from last years squad, and this years team was comprised of 9 Frosh/Soph and one senior. No one gave them a chance, personally I am surprised they competed for that long. If they didn't have academic troubles, they could of been really surprising. But with that said - I think they performed not as well as they would of hoped, but they ended up at spot where you can't be terribly surprised.
  17. A good win by MSU tonight. Although I have to say that was one ugly game. I hate to see refs control the flow of a game, and they basically dictated everything from start to finish. An MSU-Wisconsin game is never complete without someone from MSU going down with cramps.
  18. I think if it's one of the bottom-feeders (such as Penn State or Minnesota) playing at one of the top teams (such as Illinois), it's a definite win for the top team. Apart from that I agree with you. A team could beat Illinois and lose to Penn State less than a week apart. I believe a lot of the "bottom feeder" talk is more perception than reality. A lot of teams carry a good or bad perception and it typically carries weight season to season, espeecially when talking about upsets or underdogs. The Big Ten this season is not as good as everyone talked about early in the season, but from top to bottom, its VERY competitive. I don't think anyone really knows how well the Big Ten will do when it comes tourney time. Its odd - because normally the Big Ten has 2-3 Top Tier teams, then 3-5 really solid teams. This year i'd say they have 7 or 8 solid teams with the last 3 teams being very competitive.
  19. I agree - I want to keep Delmon as long as possible. However - in our league we can only keep players in our minors for one year - or until they make the major league club. I'm REALLY hoping Delmon makes it, but I know as of right now its 50/50.
  20. Need some insight on some potential OF keepers. I'm in a 16 team auction-keeper league (12 keeps per season, $260, 5x5. 3 year player contracts) and am not sure which OF's are worth keeping. Each team has 5 OF spots. The OF's: Murton - $4 Brian Anderson - $4 Hermida - $4 Delmon Young - $1 I like all these guys, however I only have 5 OF spots (and 2 UTL spots they could fit into). This is the fourth year of the league, which means all the top tier OF's 3 years ago are now up for auction (i.e., Beltran, Bonds, Manny,Abreu,Vlad, etc.) will be available. I only want to keep 3 of these guys as I'd like to use the last two spots on top tier guys in the auction. If Young makes the squad, is there any of these guys you wouldn't keep for the above values?
  21. Yeah, there aren't many 6"6" power forwards in the NBA. He might be able to carve out a niche as a role player but would probably make far more money playing overseas ala Rashard Griffith. Needless to say he won't even get drafted much higher next year. He will stay without a doubt Tucker will definitely be back next year. In the NBA he'll be a 2/3, but to get there he'll need to work on his dribbling and defense. I doubt he'll ever have a consistent outside shot. I like his chances in getting to the league as a role player/specialist.
  22. Given that there is no one player running away for POY, I think a lot of it depends on who wins the Big Ten. There are a lot of viable candidates: Brunner, Tucker, Dials, P. Davis, D.Brown. These next 4-5 games for these teams will determine that award.
  23. Huge win for Wisconsin, good to see Tucker and crew come up big. If they can win the next two, the final two games @Iowa & @MSU will be VERY interesting.
  24. http://www.spartantailgate.com/forums/images/smilies/rumor.gif That's cause they do go far in the tournament. This is true - MSU is an odd team. They consistently dissapoint in recent years Big Ten play. Then come tourney time, they turn it to another gear. I expect them to do well again in the tourney, but as for the rest of Big Ten play, who knows what you'll get.
  25. I think it's quite a stretch to think Oden's going to be (even arguably) the best player in the country next year. I'd agree with that Statement. I know Oden will be an absolute beast, but to say an incoming freshman will be the best player in the nation is a bit much.
