  1. Jose Canseco's book "Juiced" is a very interesting read. As is "My Turn At-Bat" by Ted Williams. I read Johnny Damon's book "Idiots" on a flight, and it was interesting as well. These autobiographies by players give a little look inside the clubhouse, which is kinda worthwhile to read. I also got a copy of Pete Rose's book, and the little bit that I have read was fairly good.
  2. Trust me, if you wake up with one, go get yourself tested no matter what she says. I was thinking it is a Mexican prostitute too.
  3. I clearly remember Stone saying that the Cubs should break the bank to sign Carlos Beltran. I like that kind of philosophy.
  4. Wasn't that Tim Kurkjian's prediction? Or maybe he just agreed with Ravich (who does seem like the only sane member of BBTN, sometimes).
  5. ...are greatness. I wonder if he rehearsed his lines, or just read the cards.
  6. Improved play? He looked like he had a honeycomb in his butt and the bees were chasing him out there last couple nights. It was nice of him to catch that ball, though.
  7. That 432 runs against is mighty nice....
  8. I'm with Jersey. Cruz would be a better option overall than Ward, and if you aren't going to use Murton (who actually had some pretty good throws from RF the other night) send him back so he can play often until the Cruz experiment pans out. Bottom line is Cruz is a better defensive OFer than most of the guys the Cubs are fielding in CF and RF (save Pagan). Fact.
  9. One team in our league did something meaningful. That qualifies as almost no action. The way I see it (and the way it is) any team in the NL can win the NL Wild Card. Doesn't really matter which Division the team is in - making them competition to the Cubs. There is a VERY strong chance that the WC can come out of the NL East - in which three teams improved.
  10. What do you mean "nobody did anything?" The Braves, Mets, and Phillies are better teams, and quite possibly teams that the Cubs will have to contend with for the Wild Card. The "Competition" is the whole National League.
  11. If I were the Padres, I'd go for Ronny Cedeno...
  12. I'll bet something happens for us by the trade deadline. We'll be in first place.
  13. I wonder if El Toro gave Hill that catching gear that he had in his locker for Yadier Molina?
  14. I just don't understand why the Reds would ever trade Ken Griffey Jr. People come to see that guy play. He is a merchandising gold mine. Baseball aside, he is making them money because of his name and what he has done. Why would they ever trade him?
  15. I'll take Hill. We are winning, and until a change is needed I think that Lou should keep going with him. I was more impressed with Soto, personally, but that ain't my call. Hill has a nice looking swing, but I think it looks a little long. Gerald, get on that.
  16. I have read his book - and even though I have to say that I do not agree with his overall message (which in the book was that if used properly, steroids should be utilized - or at least that is what I felt he was saying) at the time he wrote "Juiced." I know he showed that he may have learned a thing or two as he denounced steroids at the Senate hearing, which I think was a good change in opinion. Like you, I am drawn to Canseco. I want to hear what he has to say. He was blackballed from baseball, and he has no problem exposing the secrets that the public will NEVER know about life inside the clubhouse. He has no loyalties to the Player's Union. If he lies about a persons involvement in steroids, he is scum. Until then, he is just a dumbass - but I also like hearing his perspective and experiences.
  17. I actually like DeRosa at 2B and Theriot at SS. When DeRosa is in RF, play whoever is hot between Cedeno and Fontenot. Give Fontenot a few days off and let Cedeno contribute a little. Cedeno could be a nice buffer for Theriot and Fontenot, who both seem to be a little more polished than Ronny.
  18. Drinking pickle juice the night before a start should help a little.
  19. I still think I'd rather keep Theriot at SS and try Ronny at 2B.
  20. Man, Eduardo Perez called that one last night on BBTN.
  21. I love Bob Costas. I think his response was perfect.
  22. I doubt Murton has changed much in the arm department, but if they are going to put Cliff Floyd out there in RF, I guess there is no reason why Murton shouldn't get some time. Good to see him back up.
  23. I think Brenly made the statement a couple weeks ago that Jason Marquis was not throwing his changeup and off-speed pitches as frequently as he was earlier in the year. If I remember the rumors correctly, Marquis got hammered last year because he had too much faith in the fastball and threw it too much. That kinda sounds like he is resorting to that mold. I haven't really been paying attention but I will next time he takes the bump.

    Good point.

Funny story - Theriot actually gave LSU Coach Skip Bertman a "heart attack." Was watching the Cubs/Cards tonight with the friend of mine (that I mentioned played at LSU with Theriot). He told me this story when I mentioned this thread to him. When Theriot was a freshman at LSU, he made some boneheaded play that really pissed Bertman off. Bertman kinda flipped out and ended up hitting his head and actually had a small heart attack or some kind of heart murmur or something. I think he required medical attention too. Kinda humerous, and fitting for this thread.
