    I just thought it was classic how they did this thing in SF, and it was made out to be a "racial" issue. I always thought this was a "steroids" issue, and I really believe that if it were Mark McGwire, Jason Giambi, or Cal Ripken who were about to break Hank Aaron's record - and they were under Federal investigation for steroid use - I think the same thing would be happening. Regardless of race. The "Barry! Barry!" chants were awesome, too. They threw a lot of objectivity into that "Town Hall Meeting." ESPN is total garbage.

    I think I've mentioned this before, but a good friend of mine was a teammate of Theriot's at LSU - and when he tells me that Theriot hit 91 on the gun, I'm thinking there is nothing below average about his arm. I can't remember him making any costly errors, and I think his defense has been good enough to not question his ability at SS. Most importantly, Theriot at SS has been working - hasn't it?

    Aaron Hill eventually took Theriot's place at SS at LSU. Also on that 2000 LSU team were Pittsburgh's Shane Youman, Toronto's Trey Hodges, and Colorado's Brad Hawpe. That was a pretty good team.

    So are you saying the strength of an individual who already has the hand-eye coordination to play at the Major League level will in no way affect the distance he can hit a baseball? If I understand you right, you are saying that taking anabolic steroids or Human Growth Hormones in order to become stronger and more durable will not tranlate into hitting the baseball harder and further because hitting home runs has nothing to do with size/mass/strength - but everything to do with "hand eye-coordination." Tell me if I am wrong. In addition, the chemist responsible for making "the clear" (an undetectable anabolic steroid used by countless Major Leaguers - most notably Barry Bonds and Gary Sheffield) is on the record stating that his drug DOES improve reaction time (hand-eye coordination).

    I am not sure why Murton is not with the big club, just like everyone else. What I do know is that he is kinda limited to the LF position. Sure he can play RF, but he really isn't really what a Major League team needs in RF (I know, Cliff Floyd isn't either). I think Murton would be a perfect fit on this team if Soriano were a RFer. If Alfonso is more comfortable and produces better in LF - don't touch him. I don't know why a Murton/Jones platoon isn't being utilized in RF with Floyd and Ward as pinch hitters/occasional starters - but I am sure there are reasons. I think that the OF situation should be cleared up, and at least two guys ought to be fixtures in that OF. I'd like to see Pie in CF, and producing. It looks like Jones has figured it out too - only helping the Cubs.

    I agree. Fortunately, the trend is starting to shift as New York State has banned the use of metal bats in High School play recently. Baseball is meant to be played with wood bats.

    Honestly, after the meltdown the last couple weeks in 2004 - I try to stay away from thinking anyone is an easy win/hard win, etc. This is baseball, and any team can be hot/cold at any time. It doesn't matter who you play, it matters how you play. Let's hope the Cubs stay hot.

    I can't remember, but I think they were talking "first ballot." They probably are right, but they are lapdogs nonetheless.

    I used to love listening to Dibble and Kennedy until they started taking basically the same stance as Phillips, Kruk, Joe Morgan, etc. All of these guys seem to take the "innocent until proven guilty" stance. Don't get me wrong - that is the American way, but come on - we are not idiots and we know that these guys have everything to lose if they buck the system (example: Curt Flood, Lenny Dykstra, Jose Canseco). That is why I give respect to Karl Ravich for stating the obvious, despite what the lapdogs are spewing.

    That is basically what he was saying on BBTN as well. Suggested that Bonds should not play on the road in order to be sure he hits the HR #756 in San Francisco. Kruk says it won't matter because the fans in Chicago were ripping Bonds hard, but cheered for him when he hit the two HR's earlier this week. Just play ball.

    I was actually proud of Karl Ravich today. They were going over guys that may or may not get into the HOF, and Kruk and Phillips said that Bonds, Sosa, and other questionable stars will no doubt be in. Almost seems like they were speaking in favor of these guys out of fear of being shunned by the baseball world, while Ravich called it like he (and the entire world) saw it - these guys are suspect and look at how well Mark McGwire did in his first opportunity to get voted in. That's why I think they need to get some quality analysts, not some MLB Player's Union lapdogs.

    I think he is pretty much the white version of Kirby Puckett, only slower and not really as good at baseball. Stairs did used to be on the "All Hair Team" when he was sporting that permed blonde mullet. I don't even think they have a name for that style, I just refer to it as the "Sid Vicious."

    ...babbling idiot. His opinion on Barry Bonds breaking the record at home being a must "for the good of baseball" is completely .....well, you can fill that in. For the good of baseball? Barry Bonds? Please. Thoughts?

    And just because a guy is all hulked up doesn't mean he uses steroids. True, but we are discussing Barry Bonds.

    I think it is laughable that anyone considers Ryan Theriot and Mike Fontenot to be worthless or non-contributers. So they aren't going to hit the ball out of the park. Big deal. We knew that before this season started. Theriot has a lot of worth, if you ask me. He can play multiple positions, and is good enough defensively at all of them. He gets on base, is a threat to steal, and is on pace to score around 90 runs (and I don't think at any point this season he has been a solidified, unquestionable starter). I think Theriot is a big reason the Cubs are a good, solid team with a chance.

    Just because a guy uses steroids doesn't mean he is going to be all hulked up.
