  1. I have no doubt. Really? Wood has always acting in a fashion that dictated he loves being a Cub. I predict Wood retires a Cub.
  2. I don't buy into the statements that Alex Rodriguez can't play SS anymore. The guy earned an AL Gold Glove at SS 3 or 4 years ago. He's a great athlete, and last year he was in better shape than the previous couple years. I'm not saying that he would be the same old A-Rod at SS, and that the scouts say that he couldn't be a ML SS - I'm just saying that I wouldn't discount him as a SS on our team. I'm sure he is being viewed by all teams as an option there if he would fit the team. For what it's worth, I was talking to Billy Joe Tolliver last night. He knows A-Rod personally, so I feel this has a little weight. He told me how much A-Rod loves Lou, and how money doesn't really matter to him. He thinks A-Rod wants to be a Cub. Once again - take it for what it's worth (only an opinion).
  3. So says Paul Sullivan? What if Rodriguez tells the Cubs he would sign for $15-20 million a year? Would they listen?
  4. Yeah, all those superstars are going to respect Joe. Good luck with that.
  5. I like that Velociraptor scenario.
  6. We've got Churros, right? That's all I really care about.
  7. Because we need another rubber bat in the Cubs outfield????
  8. How much does A-Rod love Piniella, and did that huge contract ever really bother him? I wonder what the chances really are that he would be a Cub.
  9. Agreed. I would never count on that.
  10. I am going to ignore nothing. I pointed out that there was a strange shift in JJ's production. I have no idea what the plans are for improving this team in 2008, but one of the big problems the Cubs had was beating LHP, and having LH hitters in the order. If you are asking what I would do, it is acquire another player (at least one) that is preferrably a LH batter who can crush LHP and hit in the clutch. Hopefully that player will hit more than 5 HR, too. If the Cubs acquire this player who will bat in the middle of the order, I wish them luck dealing JJ, or whoever. If JJ can produce over the full season like he did in the better part of 2007, only with more power - I'd take it. His power numbers went way down...his lefty numbers went way up...why do you assume his power levels are just going to jump back up AND his lefty numbers will stay, contrary to the rest of his career. Can you show me where I assumed anything on the lines of what you said. IF Jones can hit LHP like he did last year, and IF he can hit for more power - I think that it's clear that I didn't really assume he would, only pointed out that IF he could, we would be crazy not to be happy with it.

  12. Some pretty interesting things about Jacque's 2007 season: * He really only had two bad months, May and June. He hit .205/.263/.591 in May and .176/.250/.525 in June. I wonder what happened those two months. * He actually had better numbers against LHP than RHP. For a career, Jacque has been FAR better against RHP, but in 2007 he was .295/.353/.763 against southpaws, while he was .283/.332/.729 against RHP. He did only have 87 plate appearances, but it looks like he made the most of them and was very outside his career norms. * In the clutch, Jacque was great: .358/.427/.906 with RISP and .350/.409/.859 with the bases juiced (22 plate appearances with 13 RBI). He was deadly with a runner on 3rd - .667/.700/1.361. I have no idea if he will be good against LHP like he was in 2007, but the Cubs could use LH bats and guys who can hit lefties in the lineup. He may be needed.
  13. I really don't want the Cubs to sign Marcus Giles. I do like Theriot, though. I also like you. A lot.
  14. Maybe he isn't all that good without the juice? One bad year, I would take a shot with him. Good #2 hitter. Sign Rowand and trade Jones. LF Soriano 2B Giles/DeRosa 1B Lee 3B Ramirez CF Rowand RF Murton CA Soto SS Theriot or SS Theriot 2B Giles/DeRosa 1B Lee 3B Ramirez LF Soriano CF Rowand RF Murton CA Soto
  15. There really isn't any reason why the Cubs can't improve the pitching and offense. IF the Cubs were to get either Alex Rodriguez or Johan Santana, which one do you think would have a bigger impact. That is pretty interesting...
  16. That's so not anywhere close to the truth. This team needs more offense first and foremost. It's blatantly obvious. Dude, it's an opinion. The offense will always need to be improved. As the season progressed, it improved a lot (dropping Barrett/Hill, Jones heating up, etc.) and hopefully Derrek Lee will swing a better bat in 08. This offense could be a lot different with Soriano in the middle of the lineup. Zambrano was very inconsistant last year, as our ace. Lilly was a big surprise, and Marquis proved to be a guy you can't really depend on. I think Rich Hill showed some promise, and our #5 spot was unsettled. Who knows if Prior and Marshall can bounce back, but one more #1 or 2 starter could push this team over the edge. Yes, the team needs more offense - but they really need one more starting pitcher, imo.
  17. Here's another site that is helpful.... http://www.mlb4u.com/freeagency.php?field=position
  18. I am with muntjack - this team needs another quality starting pitcher more than anything else.
  19. Why wouldn't he? Because he'll be 33-34? He pretty much hit his averages last year, despite a terrible start. Even scored a career high in runs. Look at his numbers in 2007, they were right around the median for his career.
  20. The only things he did last year that are on your list are score over 100 and knock in over 100 and he was on the Yankees which helped. I definitely think Murton will be able to compete with the numbers Abreu puts up for the remainder of his career. He'll probably never be as good as Abreu was during his prime, but Abreu is past his prime. Those things I listed are just about Abreu's career averages. You can expect something in the neighborhood. He and Murton aren't really comparable statistic/ability wise - but Murton isn't a terrible option for RF (depending on what the Cubs want to spend). Abreu would be a GIANT improvement for the Cubs RF situation. BUT after a little more research - he really isn't as dangerous against LHP, and the Cubs need to improve against LHP.
  21. Floyd made it clear on the Mike North show that he was "50/50" on returning to the Cubs, depending on "what they wanted to do with Murton." This may be an indicator that the Cubs plan on Murton or Murton/Jones in RF in 08.
  22. Huh? Abreu is a guy who will probably score 100 runs, hit 20 HR, drive in 100, walk 100 times, and steal 30 bases. I wouldn't be upset with Murton starting in RF every day, but to expect him to compete with those numbers isn't very realistic. I do agree with you on the argument that it might not be worth it, as Abreu is going to demand anywhere from $10-15 million - money that can be spent elsewhere. The Cubs are RH heavy in the lineup, though. Need some LH power, and another solid starter would be good.
  23. Candy Maldonado was overrated.
  24. Totally agree. He would be an EXCELLENT fit.
