  1. I think Giles is hitting under .230 as a leadoff hitter. When he bats in the the second spot in the order, he is hitting over .300. I would love to see Giles at 2b next year. I would not like to see him being a leadoff hitter though. Pierre and Giles at the top of the order would be pretty solid.
  2. Agreed! I can't really remember a SS or 2nd basemen that has made so many poor choice decisions as Cedeno has. I hope people aren't talking about the throw home. That was the right move, he had Burrell by several steps, the throw was just not a good one. The throw home was not a smart choice. If you dont get that runner out at home, your opening youself up for a huge inning. Which in fact happened. I dont have a problem with Cedeno being aggresive, but he should of thrown the ball to the 1B man.
  3. I dont like the idea of Pie leading off. I would put Soriano in the leadoff spot. He excells in that spot in the order. Another problem, I would rather deal Cedeno, and keep Izturis at ss. Your bullpen and rotation is a little weak. Maybe add another cheap SP that could eat up innings( Weaver). What happened to Ohman?
  4. Your giving up way too much for Freel. What happened to Howry? Is he included in the Freel trade also? That starting rotation is very injury prone. Trading for Brady Clark would make no sense. You would be giving up one of your best pitching prospects for him. Why not just re-sign Pierre? He brings more to the table than Brady Clark will.
  5. with baker gone next year and murton playing every day, i dont see why his slugging % wouldnt go up significantly from this year. he can easily be a .300+ 25 hr guy in 2007 imo. Because he's not that good. I didn't realize players peaked at 25. I see no reason that he can't improve, especially if Dusty's free swinging mentality leaves the clubhouse. There's very little in his past that suggests he's going to hit for any more power than he is now. Maybe he'll be able to maintain it without as heavy a platoon distribution, but it's not often college draftees start hitting for more power at the MLB level after not displaying it anywhere before. If he's playing CF and putting up a .375 OBP, what more do you want out of the guy? And if he's playing a corner of spot, his numbers this year aren't that far off from Brian Giles, who this board was creaming themselves over getting this past offseason. Giles: .383/.385/.769 (9 million) Murton: .357/.426/.782 (near league minimum) :-k Murton in CF? That would be real interesting.
  6. I would love to see Lackey pitching for the Cubs. That will not happen anytime soon though. Lackey signed a 2yr extension with the Angels before the season began.
  7. Blanco is not a everyday catcher. He is a solid backup. If Toronto gets Barrett, then why not go out and sign Bengie Molina?
  8. If Toronto makes a offer of Wells for Barrett, then the Cubs better jump all over that. Then the Cus could pick up Bengie Molina this off-season.
  9. I think the Blue Jays traded Izturis a couple of years ago to the Dodgers.
  10. If you not going to sign a impact bat, then you should spend the money on the best SP available. ZITO.
  11. Who are the Cubs giving up for Kottaras? Im not sure you can count on Prior or Schmidt staying healthy. You also cant hope for Barrett to have the same yr he is having this year. Hendry needs to add a Power Bat in that lineup.
  12. In 2004, the Cubs had the best chance of winning. When Hendry signed Maddux the chances increased even more. Disagree. The 2004 Cubs with Beltran and Cruz/Rusch (2004)/Mitre are a better team that the 2004 Cubs with Maddux and Patterson. Beltran wasnt a FA untill after the 04 season.
  13. In 2004, the Cubs had the best chance of winning. When Hendry signed Maddux the chances increased even more.
  14. Ugh, imagine if we had gotten Beltran that offseason... I still remember (during the 04-05 offseason) having hopes of.. Walker, Beltran, Nomar, Ramirez, Lee, Sosa, Barrett, Patterson w/Wood, Prior, Zambrano, Maddux, and ?? Instead, we spent the whole offseason trading Sosa and picked up Hairston and Burnitz... :x I don't think not getting Beltran was Hendry's fault. I think the TRIB pocket books and the Cubs payroll had something to do with that. No one was outbidding the Mets for Beltran that year...BTW - Imagine if we had Pudge in 2003? Exactly. I hate hearing Cub fans complain about not getting Beltran. The Cubs were not going to out bid the Mets for him.
  15. I think Hendry did a excellent job in 03-04. Picked up Lee, Ramirez, Barrett, for nothing basically. He added Maddux, he traded for Nomar. Baker raised the expectations when he signed with the Cubs. He was the best named manager out there, and Hendry got him. That being said, Hendry has done very little since then. He spent the whole 04 off-season trying to deal Sosa. That could be a reason he didnt do much. This is a very important off-season for Hendry. If he dosent get this team back into contention, he could be done as Cub GM.
  16. If you people complain about Zambrano throwing over 110 pitches a start, what are you going to say about Schmidt?
  17. Hendry needs to add another POWER bat in the OF. Basically that is the same team they are rolling out this year.
  18. Most cost-effective? Yes. It's no contest. Best? No. Eyre and Howry have been better. He also has nearly a quarter of their innings. Given his stuff and performance in AAA I believe he'd come out on top. Wuertz also throws a slider 90% of the time. Its only a matter of time untill he throws out his elbow.
  19. I dont think Wuertz is the "best" reliever on the team. I would take Howry, and Eyre over him anyday.
  20. His start at Wrigley against the Pirates I think it was, Prior hit 94mph on his fastball. I didnt watch yesterday's game, so I have no idea where his velocity was at.
  21. Berkman, Beltran, Rivera. Juan Rivera? Having his best year in the majors this year. .305 BA 20HR 64RBI .353OBP. He has had only 292AB this year. He would be putting up better numbers than Vlad, if he had atleast 450AB at this time. Berkman, Sizemore, Juan Rivera.
  22. Pagan plays the deepest LF I have ever seen when he is in Wrigley. If I was in LF, I would be playing shallow. If the ball is hit over your head, its either a double or HR.
