  1. Let me guess, you're a Cubs fan first, Cardinals hater 2nd, baseball fan 3rd?
  2. /facepalm Seriously Der, look up from your spreadsheet and watch the game on occasion, you might learn something. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b85/cool_dude100/popcorn.gif
  3. The guy is a proven winner.
  4. I don't know, Derwood. You may be right. But to bunt after a leadoff double but to NEVER bunt with a man on 3rd in a 1 run game and 1 out seems a little crazy to me. Tony has mashers in that line-up and has them BUNT? With no outs and a man in scoring position? Just giving a free out for ONE chance at a sac fly. How can you defend this idiocy? So you are anti-bunting (as you should be) but you are pro squeezing? Squeezing is not a 100% proposition. A lot has to go right, and when it backfires you really look stupid burning a runner on 3rd, less than 2 outs situation. It probably reminds him of "Whitey Ball." Which it seems like 90% of fans have a raging boner for.
  5. He's been brutal lately. His playing time has decreased because of his heel injury and the hiatal hernia thing is worrisome because of the weight he's been losing. Came into camp at 210 and is at 190 now.
  6. Damn you Roast!
  7. No, it's a 16 million dollar option. 5 mil is the buyout.
  8. Do you have anything specific that makes you think this? It sounds like something you just decided was true with nothing to back it up. Pretty much just that when the Yankees sign someone, the rumored reports from other teams aren't even close. You hear about a few teams involved, with pretty similar offers, and then the Yankess sign the player 20 million more than reports. Look at AJ this past offseason. But yeah, I might be looking to much into it. Just a gut feeling with something that makes sense in my mind.
  9. Why would we start seeing that now, at least in comparison to before? For as long as there has been free agency there have been guys who have decided they didn't want to play in NY. But by and large guys will follow the best offer. I think we're going to start seeing Chicago and LA as more desirable FA destinations. Still a good chunk of money, good fanbase, contending teams, less drama. I think it's gotten to the point that NY and Boston are overpaying because they have to. Their offers that are better by a few million aren't getting the job done anymore. As long as media keeps getting bigger and bigger and more obtrusive, I can't see most normal players wanting to go there, unless they are absolutely overwhelmed.
  10. They traded for Jeff Francouer. Think about that for a minute.
  11. That's so true. I have a Cardinal fan buddy (one that is actually reasonable knowledgable) that is convinced that Holliday is going to take less to sign with the Cards, even though he's said nothing to indicate that. there was just like 3 calls in a row to the xm show on now to this effect. pretty delusional, very widespread here. I don't think he would stay for less, but I think we're going to see players start declining New York and Boston offers and signing closer to true market value with other clubs, unless they are grossly overpaying. I think we've already been seeing a bit of it. I can't remember the last time the Yankees signed someone to a good contract.
  12. got to add Beckett, just turned 29 - 3.27 Adam Wainwright 2.80 ERA, age 27
  13. Apparently you and I are the only people who think that was a stupid idea.
  14. Good hard fastball, plus slider, iffy command. Got some big time help from the ump last inning, but pitched a pretty good game.
  15. 6 innings. 5 innings. Whoops. Got ahead of myself, somehow. And Wainwright breaks it up in the top of the 6th. That's what you get Roast!
  16. 6 innings. 5 innings.
  17. So is Hanson's. Wainwright seems to be one of those pitchers that can get good results despite an average WHIP.
  18. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/31/sports/baseball/31doping.html?_r=3&ref=sports I'm really sick of this list.
  19. Before you smacktalk Zaun, I suggest you go here... http://www.greggzaun.com/ You'll be singing a different tune.
  20. You're forgetting about pixie dust. That's always a factor.
  21. 2 1st rounders I believe Then this is a pretty good trade. Yep, 1st rounder of the signing team and a supplemental pick. Well, there are some assumptions there. If: - the team that signs him is in the bottom 15 teams in the league, their first round pick is protected and StL would get a second rounder (this could easily happen with a team like the mets) - the team that signs him also signs a higher ranked "A" player, StL would be second in line for compensation - Holiday has a lousy second half, he could theoretically lose "A" status - StL is willing to take the gamble of arbitration in what could be a very tight market this year. Holiday could make $20M+ in arbitration. Would StL take the gamble on paying that next year? Most likely the answer to these questions are positives for StL, but they are still assumptions. Good points. I don't see how Holliday would make 20 mil in arb though. I see him in the 16 mil range. I'm fairly confident the Cards will sign him. The Cardinals don't seem to be scared off by Boras, they've dealt with him quite a bit in the past.
  22. You really don't know as much about the Cardinals as you think you do. I can only assume you're following fat tub of goo Bernie's line of thinking that Duncan needed to be traded in order to get him out of the lineup, in which case you apparently believe if the Cardinals acquired Holliday that LaRussa woulda benched Ludwick?? You don't nearly as much about baseball as you think if you think the Cardinals had to trade CHRIS [expletive] DUNCAN to open a spot up for Matt Holliday. I didn't say they had to. I said that the word was that trading Duncan for Lugo was the first in a series of moves. You went on a know-it-all spree and don't seem to understand how ridiculously loyal LaRussa is to some players. Duncan and Ankiel both platooned with Ludwick this year. As it is, I guarantee that Ankiel will get plenty of AB's in CF and platooning with Ludwick, even though he's more worthless than Duncan. I get what you're saying about trading Duncan, because that's common sense. But you really don't know how TLR operates.
  23. He has not outhit Lugo this year. Julio Lugo .284 .352 .367 Brendan Ryan this year .275 .313 .367 They are pretty close offensively that Ryans D makes up for the little bit of advantage Lugo has so far offensively this year. 40 points of OBP is not a "little bit of offense." Brendan Ryan's D more than makes up for that difference. He's been flat out incredible this year and Lugo has been about as bad as it gets.
  24. 2 1st rounders I believe Then this is a pretty good trade. Yep, 1st rounder of the signing team and a supplemental pick.
