  1. Adding to this, I'm curious what it would take for the people on NSBB to think he actually knows how to run a baseball team? I think he's somehow showing signs of this. Getting more money to spend helps I suppose.
  2. I just want to make the comment that maybe JH has suddenly gotten smart this offseason? Maybe I'm out of place here, but I am so proud of him for not taking the temptation to sign Gary Matthews Jr. or Juan Pierre to the ridiculous contracts they just signed. I believe he's finally on the right track here. Until he does something dumb that is.
  3. I doubt he'll opt out this time. The contract calls for a salary in 2011 of 14.6 million. That's a lot of money and I doubt he'll get that at age 32. I think we'll have Aram for 5 years. This is a dead issue.
  4. brian is so full of crap....good god. No trolls, please
  5. the donut jokes will NEVER die will they?
  6. So if Bruce is so sure that he's going to RF, then who the hell is going to play center? Kaplan just said that they "aren't done yet...by far"... Something else is going to happen. Hendry's a cowboy...ride em Jimbo!!
  7. I have not a single grudge against sammy, he made his bed and should pay the price for it. He needs an interpreter at the hearings? He used (and probably always did) use cork. He likely juiced...thought it'll never be proven. Everybody else and their sister was hitting the hell out of the ball from 98-2002. I don't buy that sammy is in the Cubs top all time hitters, I just don't buy it. I'll take Billy Williams, Ron Santo, Gabby, Hack, Mark Grace, Bill Buckner...many others. A certain amount of a hitter's quality is how he lives his baseball life isn't it? I mean, if we do it with Pete Rose...we should do it with everyone shouldn't we? Sammy was great...but he's tarnished, and therefore deserves a spot high on this list. Richard Nixon did some good things, but he was tarnished, and therefore is always and forever associated with corruption...this thing with sammy is the same kinda thing.
  8. Manny and Lugo...Manny's cheaper in the long run, and a better hitter by far.
  9. Ernie, Gabby, and Hack get more credit because they didn't use cork and human growth hormone. Sammy's numbers are inflated, just like Bonds and McGuire and Palmeiro and they will all forever be tarnished and hopefully NONE will make it to the HOF on the first...or even the second ballot. Pete Rose might have bet on baseball, but he didn't juice...and he's not in the HOF...neither should Sammy and these other guys until Santo is in at least. Sammy's numbers are inflated and shouldn't be in the CUBS top five, let alone MLB's top anything.
  10. Thanks for the lowdown. So any player that's not on a 40 man roster, can be drafted in the rule 5 draft? I don't understand the rule 5 draft either...care to explain that, too?
  11. In my ongoing quest to understand more about this stuff, can someone please tell me the signifigance of the 40 man roster? Does it protect players from drafts? From being traded? What's it mean when a man is "taken off the 40 man roster".? Does a guy have to be on the 40 man roster to be called up to the Show? Thanks
  12. Great link Sunnydoo, I don't think Bobby Knight could have done any better. Is that for real? Did he really say all that stuff to reporters? That's great... I see Uncle Lou going on a tirade like that, I would guess his age hasn't made him any more mellow, but maybe not with quite so much profanity.
  13. whats better than a $100 mil train wreck? a $140 mil train wreck seriously though, im beginning to think Hendry might actually have a plan that includes fielding a winning team for 2007 Scary isn't it? Hendry with a plan? It'd be a little like GW Bush with a plan...no wait, not that scary :)
  14. If the Sox want that defensive shortstop, we have that. And Theriot can play short. We also have the expendable bullpen arms now and Papelbon is moving to the rotation next year. This seems to be a likely scenario... Manny would seem to be the logical endpoint here...or Westbrook... What's Jim cooking up here?
  15. Forgive my dumbness, but, what's a "LOOGY"???
  16. Even if he's the second coming of Ghandi, the six year cost doesn't justify what you would get in return. Drew is worth way more, and he reportedly is only asking for 4 years.
  17. Let the Phillies have him. He's a graduate of the "Gary Sheffield School of Complaining". I hope the Phillies open the checkbook, then we get on to signing Drew.
  18. Thinking positive for second, the Cubs have freezed season ticket prices because they know that the fans are restless...at least more than usual. By freezing ticket prices and raising payroll, I think this shows that the higher ups are finally realizing that they need to pump a little more cash into this Addison street train wreck.
  19. Soriano's bad news, boys...bad news. Give me Lugo and Carlos Lee and Drew...and the pitchers...and call it a day. Can you see some of the shouting matches between Uncle Lou and Alfonso? Bad news, man.
  20. O Chem should be referred to as pain: The kind that feels like an ice pick stabbed right through the center of one's ear...and lasting 16 weeks straight. Sometimes it's good to be old...
  21. Again I'll say it, I think we should stay away from Alfonso if he's going to cost 7 years. At least 3 of those years will be mediocre and we'll end up paying for nothing aka Kevin Brown or Mike Hampton. Primetime: If you were on here consistently, you'd see a hint of sarcasm at the Cubs ability to do the right thing and perhaps that makes us a bit jaded. But the man love for Murton is NOT misguided, this guy has a potential to be a star, and only needs the chance to extend what he's already PROVEN with the bat. Praise is given on these boards when its deserved, not when it's the "polite" thing to do.
  22. I want them to sign Marquis for one reason: It gives us a chance to stick it to those dirt bags in St Louis that won the Series with the crappiest pitching in the history of the World. If...and only if...it costs us a fair amount of money. Marquis winning 15 at the back of the rotation would give me at least a little sense of payback.
  23. Teams are looking to pay 10 million for Pierre because they are stupid. I (like a handful of others on here) were duped into thinking he was decent...I'm proud to say that I have reformed these thoughts, but only my priest knows (who happens to be a Sox fan).
  24. We wouldn't be lucky enough to convince Burrell to accept a trade to the cubs. More likely, we'll get saddled with some ridiculous 7 year contract for a 31 year old Soriano. I just know JH is gonna overpay for that guy. I'd rather have Carlos Lee or JD Drew. Wish in one hand, crap in the other I guess...
