  1. and I'm not Mr. Sunshine. I know they suck...I've been victimized by these guys all my life, too.
  2. I care...well, I don't really care what you say...I'm interested in the opinions on here, that's all. I think they had an extraordinarily pissy year but continuing to malign everyone in the organization who are trying to make it better just perpetuates the problem the Cubs have. What's wrong with saying things like "Jim Hendry, you sucked this year and last...but you gave us Aramis and DLee for next to nothing...now see if you can do it again." I just tire of all the negativity...I'm not a negative person. I'll shut up about it if nobody else feels the same way.
  3. The reason positive things should be said is that the team has good players on it... Those are positives. The past is the past. All the complaining doesn't do anyone any good. Hendry is here...he's staying. It does nobody any good to continue to malign the people that are trying to make it better. Again, I guess I'm the Lone Ranger on this subject
  4. They sucked, fine, they sucked this year. Say something positive, Goony...say three positive things about the Cubs... Can you do it?
  5. Bad idea. Sheets is Prior in a "Sheep's" clothing. Stay away from this guy for the money and players he'd cost to get him.
  6. Hey Goony, has Jim Hendry EVER done anything right in your eyes?
  7. Hendry made his mistakes, just like we all have. His are obviously more glaring because he's in such a prominent position. He's also had his share of success. The team hasn't shown that. They are in a new direction. And this isn't the first...nor the last team in baseball...to have years like this. Before this year, the mets paid a helluva lot of money for a team that was mediocre. The Red Sox and White Sox didn't make the playoffs...and they spent lots of money, too.
  8. And if it is true according to B. Miles that Dusty did often over rule Larry, than this whole thing is dumb to argue about, because what can the pitching coach do when the boss says no?
  9. You have got to be kidding me. Larry was given Wood and Prior. He was given good talent to work with? Six finger Estes Remlinger Mark Guthrie Jason Bere Kyle Farnsworth (who never improved after he left). Who am I missing in the greatly talented cubs pitching staffs past? He clearly wasn't given great talent...when he is given good talent (Eyre and Howry and Zambrano and to an extent Matt Clement...he does good with it). Obviously I'm missing something here.
  10. Who besides Jim Hendry and Dusty B praised Neifi? I would guess that just about every manager in the game knows Neifi sucks. Leyland didn't exactly put Neifi in a prominent position on the team once he was acquired. He's had 4 ab's in the playoffs and had a striking 65 ab's once he was acquired.
  11. Clearly ARod is worth getting for anyone other than guys named Zambrano, DLee, and Aramis (because the offense lost wouldn't make up for the offense gained). Sell the friggin farm to get this guy...he's a game changer...and I predict the guy will get better, because he's ARod (but I admit this is a guess). Sooner or later the Cubs are going to have to pull the trigger on something risky...and this seems to be the risk that has the best possibility of a return on the investment for what we'd have to give up to get him.
  12. No, Leyland isn't God, and all managers make mistakes...obviously. And Larry Rothschild is picked on way too much on this website. Too many people want to blame everyone, when it was Jim Hendry that screwed up most of this, and is now going to try and make up for lost time.
  13. That's just not true is it, Goony? He maybe has been here five years, but Hendry et al has given him crap to work with, too, isn't that right? The pitching sucked mostly because there was no talent. The talent Larry had mostly got better, not worse. (Hill, Zambrano, Dempster when he got regular work) I recall Hendry also signing two guys named Howry and Eyre...and if they continue to sign proven pitchers rather than trying to make AA pitchers into major leaguers, then the numbers will get better. A man is only as good as the ingredients he's given to work with.
  14. Agree with this wholeheartedly. Unless a guy named ARod fits into the equation someplace.
  15. can we just sign CLee for the 18 or so games he'll play against the Cubs? Someone phone the Astros...we could give them a million, and maybe Freddie Bynum? Dunno, could work.
  16. I don't know that you can make the assumption that ARod is past his great years, Goony. ARod has phenomenal numbers for a man his age, and the assumption can also be made that he's the exception to the rule you are talking about. There's a guy called Bonds out there that disproved such things. (albeit steroid induced...so I digress). Just saying.
  17. I hope the Astros do sign CLee. That 12 million he'd get can be used to sign more pitching, get any number of other hitters than him...and try to get ARod. Murton suits me fine in left. The guy just needs time.
  18. I think we need to look at who wanted Rothschild. Leyland wanted him, and he seems to know something about winning baseball games. Again, I'll say that Rothschild has improved many pitchers during his tenure here and hasn't improved Prior and Woody...but he also inherited that disaster from a previous regime... I don't know that there's a team that doesn't have pitching injuries. Is there?
  19. Which pitchers have been injured for lengthy periods of time other than Wood and Prior? And weren't Woody and Prior inherited by Rothschild? He also had to rehab Dempster...and he also had to rehab Wade Miller... I think piling on Larry Rothschild is a little too much. If I'm given a crappy car and take the hopeless thing to the mechanic to fix all the things wrong with it, I can't complain when he tries...and fails...to fix it. I am racking my brain to come up with pitchers that were hurt BECAUSE of Rothschild... If Lou likes him...I'm down with it. Jim Leyland wanted him...and he's no dummy, either. It's about time we blamed Jim Hendry and his foolishness more than we do the pitching coach, who, last time I checked, doesn't throw pitches... I am probably the Lone Ranger here, so tear me up fellas...
  20. Yeah, where Alfonso hits in the order matters less than having him on the team. Face it, we'll have to overpay (like all the other winning teams do, for talent, aka Beltran...Manny) to get the players that make an impact.
  21. I meant trading for Arod...not signing him
  22. Like I said, I think trading your stalwart starter and the only one who doesn't get hurt BEFORE he hits his prime is just plain silly... Give up Hill...Marmol...hell, give up whoever, anyone unproven...to hell with keeping prospects when you can have Arod... Is there a stronger word for 'stupid'? Then that's the word I want to use. And losing Aram while gaining A ROD...is also one step forward and one step back. This isn't what Hendry is looking for. I like his idea of chasing Soriano for CF...signing ARod...signing Schmidt...and signing Carlos Lee... now THAT would have an impact.
  23. To trade Z for Arod...in any combination...shoots us in the foot. We get an all star in return, and give up our ONLY proven starter... That's dumb...
  24. just curious where all this "pitcher abuse points" thing comes from? is there a link?
