  1. Player manager? Sounds good to me...
  2. I too think that Womack will be sent down. Murton dominates the lefties too much to be sent down, plus he does get on base. We know that Neifi won't go, he has too much contract left, plus he is a good defender despite his lousy bat and OBP. I really don't care what they do, the team is done for the year anyway, so whatever they do to make room for DLee won't make a diff at this point in the year.
  3. Signing wood at the time that they did, for the money they did, was not a bad idea at the time. The bad thing is that Hendry wanted Furcal so badly, and that's the bottom line...the players he chooses are good when they are good...and really stink up the place at the same time. It's always one step forward and two steps back with hendry. Man, what a good GM could do with the money the cubs have at their disposal.
  4. He got something more than Ronnie makes, that's for sure. I'll take Ronnie over that drunk driving fool any day...
  5. Marrioti is almost always right about the Cubs, especially lately. He's preaching to this NSBB choir.
  6. Again (and again), it's irrelevent what the Tribune boardroom does, they've provided enough money to win. When was the last time the owner had anything to do with a guy hitting the cutoff man, getting caught offbase, or walking the bases loaded? Blaming the Trib is old and tired...blame Jimbo for this debacle.
  7. I agree with IMB, we all should. This team sucks bad. It's time that we let this horse die in peace. Badness...
  8. Dusty doesn't lack passion, he lacks a good team. The players they have miss the cutoff man and walk too many guys because most of them are recycled bad players that other teams smartly got rid of long ago: Mabry, Bynum, Glendon, Neifi, Pagan, Jacque (though he's better this year), blah blah blah. Having recycled, bad players makes you look worse than you really are, that much I agree with...they are better than they look... But still, you put a dress on a pig...she's still a pig.
  9. I love this. How can anyone possibly blame the stadium for the Cubs demise? And the Tribune, whether they are good guys are not is irrelevent, have given Jimbo the resources to field a good team. It's the men on the roster that suck, that's why the team sucks, and the man that put the team on the field sucks. Dusty is partially to blame, as he probably loses them 10 or so games a year, while managers like LaRussa WIN their team 10 or so games a year, solely through their leadership qualities. Stop blaming the Trib and the stadium...geez.
  10. Damn, where's Jose Macias when you need REAL power! I hope they give up the ship and trade most of these re-used parts...alas, it won't happen, it would force Jimbo to concede that his phiosophy is a complet and total train wreck.
  11. I'm forced to agree with Soccer. This team is poor because of it's players, not because they do or don't have a fiery manager. While having Piniella would be great entertainment, I doubt he or any other manager would be able to do much with this talent-less team. We've hashed this over and over. Dusty looks bad because his players are bad. I remember Sparky Anderson, obviously a great manager saying that he looks as dumb or as smart as his players. He won with some great Reds teams, and looked bad with some others...the Tigers come to mind. It's not about the managers or the GM (well, he does PICK the players)...it's about who's playing, the mix of players, and the stats that they bring. Fire means NOTHING...without talent.
  12. Maybe we could bring Lenny Harris out of retirement, and along with that, a five year contract for Jose Macias....then I'd know we're headed for the series!
  13. How can anyone blame the Trib for this train wreck? 95 million is plenty to spend for a winner. This is baloney the people on here that blame the corporation. Blame the baseball people here, the Trib has nothing to do with that. The solutions here are obvious to all of us on this board. They are not done by the people in charge because they'd have to admit their collective philosophies have failed, and thus would be cutting their own throats. Sad, but true.
  14. Dusty will get promoted to GM
  15. I'm sure Dusty will say glendon has a "disorder of metabolism". He does, he can't shovel the Hostess in fast enough. Man, this guy is pathetic...and Johnnie B. more so for running his butt out there.
  16. Expecting a 64-32 record is just pie in the sky, plastic banana, good time rock and roll. All we have left now is beer...and antidepressants.
  17. If Murton hits .375 against lefties, why not sit him once in a while? It might give him some more motivation, and that's not a bad thing. This team sucks, and is hopeless, so what does it matter?
  18. I can see all of them disliking each other, because they are losing. I don't think the dislikes are exclusive to the manager, but we will never know.
  19. Regardless whether it's due to pitch counts or what not, every team has pitching injuries. Randy Johnson and Mike Mussina have been hurt in the last year with arm issues. Andy Pettitte was hurt much of last year and hasn't pitched worth a damn this year. Isringhausen and Cris Carpenter have been hurt. The league is replete with examples of hurt pitchers. Some on here are so ingrained with passion for the cubs and feel so bad that they are doing so poorly, that they think management is the worst thing since the Antichrist. Perhaps Dusty B. is the Antichrist, but pitching injuries aren't JUST because he leaves pitchers in a few pitches too long. Some people on here can't see the forest despite the trees. Relax, folks, Z is a tough guy...he'll be fine.
  20. I think bringing brenly down to manage, and making santo a bench and/or hitting coach might shake things up. Ron is a smart baseball guy, obviously, and it couldn't hurt. Why not? They suck anyway...if only Bill Veeck were still alive, I wonder what he'd do with this garbage team.
  21. I did say it aloud, "The cubs just suck". And you are right, it helps...but only a little. Reminds me of the beginning of Major League, "Who are these **ckin guys?" So bad...it's funny.
  22. I wouldn't get too excited yet. Marmol, for one, is going to have to vary his game a little, or veteran teams like the cards and astros are going to treat him like a batting practice rag doll. Two pitches won't do it at this level, but he knows that, seems like a good kid, anyone asking for advice from Maddux and being public about it has his head screwed on straight. Wood is done. Prior...there's still hope.
  23. I agree about the "wins" thing, if Zambrano had more control over his fate, he'd be a 10 or 11 game winner by now, which, illustrates the randomness with which the game affects a team. The Yankees are replete with great teams and high win totals and high on base percentages and lots of home runs, but the randomness of their injuries and the randomness with which things happen keep even the big spenders from winning all the time. Though, in retrospect, they have those numbers (the metrics, as you say), and they do at least make the playoffs probably due to that, but lose due to the random happenings of the playoffs. So both are true, in my opinion. The cubs suck because they have four or five good high OBP players, and surround the rest of the team with bozos and knuckleheads like Neifi and Glendon. We'll see lots of Neifi this week, he hit the ball successfully on sunday.
  24. Juan should bat 8th, with Murton or Cedeno leading off.
  25. I live too far away, I already nearly have to have the most expendable child sit on a water tower with a coat hanger in his hand, while he stands on one foot with his arm extended. I take it there's no solution? Damn, how the hell did we put a man on the moon?
