  1. Didn't Patton come from the Rockies? Wherever he came from I can see an organization getting upset at losing him as he has decent stuff. I wonder if the Rockies got a Cubs farmhand in the Rule5 draft recently and this was payback. That is completely a guess and I doubt it's at all true or close to reality, but that is the only reason that I can come up with to explain the Patton scenario and - yes it does feel like they are willing to sacrifice the pen this year to do whatever they can to keep Patton around for the full year.
  2. I hope Ascanio doesn't end up like Cotts - gets everyone out in AAA and throws meatballs or can't hit the zone at the major league level.
  3. That's why I love going to baseball practice. The sound of the ball when it goes through the air, when it hits the glove,... is soothing for some reason. I also love the sound of the ball being hit. When I'm at bat, I can hear when I make good contact. Yeah and best of all what you feel when you make good contact ... or actually what you don't feel, which is torque. Physics geekspeak for hitting the ball on the screws: ball hits the center of percussion of the bat (sweet spot), where no reaction torque is tranferred back to the hands. I love that as well as the sound that is created. The "whack!" sound of a wooden bat is cool enough, but the "PING!" of metal bats in college is awesome.
  4. KingCubsFan assumed the Cubs sign their draft picks - which Jackson is. Did I miss something? When did Jackson sign, and for how much?
  5. Wicked storms today all over Chicago. I live in the NW burbs and there was a tornado sighted 2 miles from my house and golf ball sized hail. My street is flooded and one of our trees is split in half. With the amount of rain, I wouldn't be surprised if the called the game today due to poor field conditions. I guess that is what they paid The SodFather for though - improved drainage. We'll see I guess.
  6. A homer here by Bradley and I'll take back what I said earlier.
  7. Thats weak. Look at Mauers stats. .414 12hr .495OBP for a measly 1.244OPS The Twins look brilliant for taking Mauer ahead of Prior.
  8. Morneau is only hitting .340 with 16 homers already. Seriously, why can't we draft guys like this? Instead we get stuck with Montanez, Dopirak, Harvey and Colvin. Someone please shoot me now.
  9. I agree and I have to say, he certainly deserves to hear it. He has been pretty bad for the first two months of the season. He left A LOT of runners on base on the road trip and that potential double play in Houston that was botched by Tejada a terrible piece of hitting as he just didn't want to K. He's letting good pitches go by and swinging at garbage when he gets in a hole. The team needed him to pick up his offense when ARam went down and he regressed further. His antics with the umps have gotten on my nerves and I suspect he's coming close to losing all fan support.
  10. How much of a prospect is Castro. A 19 year old holding his own in high-A is impressive but I don't recall reading anything about him from BA or here (unless I missed it - possible too).
  11. Interesting stuff, Craig. Question, though...when you say that the 3SB indicates he's not a burner: - Isn't a rate of 3SB for every five games really good? - If he's consistently on 2nd or 3rd after hitting doubles and triples, how many opportunities has he really had where he's on 1st with nobody on 2nd, favorable counts, outs, etc. to pick his spots to steal? +1
  12. Fontenot is struggling big time. Between him, Soto and DLee I don't know who's worse right now.
  13. Need to get out of this Marmol. Throw strikes kid.
  14. Not good at all. With ARAm out the offense needs DLee and Bradley to step up and thus far, neither really has.
  15. A quick question for Brewer fans that cheered when ARam hurt his shoulder in Miller Park...... ain't karma a bitch?
  16. Prediction: He leaves angry spewing BS about special treatment of superstars and how he was never given a chance.
  17. I realize that the decision was likely made a couple days ago, but when you're on the team for your speed and defense, and you come into a game and play two fly balls into XBH's late in the game, your days have to be numbered. So long Joey.
  18. It's not a popular opinion here, but I completely agree. I get slammed every time I say it here, but history or not, Wrigley is trashed. I go to other parks whenever I can and I'm ashamed of the park we have to put up with. I love the Cubbies but not Wrigley. And before anyone asks, I was a season ticket holder for 14 years up to the 2007 season when my daughter was born. I still go to 10-12 games per season but I sit in the bleachers. I grew up in Des Plaines and have been going to Wrigley since I was 8 (I'm 37). The fans deserve a better park.
  19. Jerry Owens was cut by the wsox
  20. He gets about 180k. BEFORE taxes
  21. lol! questionmarkgrace.......I get it. I see what you did there.
