The Bears need to sign a RB. Forte was drafted by Angelo, so he will probably be a Benson clone. Peterson is not NFL level talent.

I think its been said like 15 times in this thread alone that he was very sick that season (he had mono). That is why no one was concerned about his "weak" season. It is not like the Cubs reached on some huge project. The guy was a top prospect who was going top 5 anyway.

I read something that said he was kicked out of a bunch of schools, yet only committed "minor" indiscretions like slashing car tires, graffiti and putting a dead rat on a teachers desk. Okay, so he didn't rape anybody, good for him, but that's some serious signs of one screwed up prick. He didn't get in trouble once at K-State. Obviously that is much easier than staying out of trouble in a city like Chicago. Screwed up prick? He was a teenager, and putting a dead rat on a desk doesn't hurt anybody. The vandalism was signing his name on things like water fountains and the window of a teachers car. Are those things acceptable probably not, but its just a kid being a kid. I would love to see a link to the slashing a tire thing, bc I have never heard that. Otherwise he was just a kid having a little fun, and people overreacting about it because he is a basketball player. Rose isn't exactly Mr. Perfect either. As far as behavior goes I haven't heard anything bad about him that is incredibly concerning, but money in your hometown can be problem. Not to mention the guy admitted his diet consisted of gummy bears, honey buns, and sour straws. Not exactly something that makes you feel good about a guy staying in shape for an entire NBA season. What has Rose ever done???? And not eating healthy is not a behavioral problem........

What'd he say? Basically that he thought that Rose has good mechanics on his shot and would become a good shooter. And that he is 6'4, is incredibly physically gifted, and has a great work ethic.

People hated the pick before it was made. They don't have confidence in a high school hitter who didn't even hit as a senior, I believe. Top picks should be without flaws, his sickness may have been the sole reason why he wasn't special, but that's a chance you take later on, not at the top. A top 5 pick shouldn't have such a huge flaw on his resume. Furthermore, there has been nothing but bad news on him since he came out. There's enough obstacles for a top notch draft pick to make it as a major leaguer even when things go smoothly early. I don't see what's so irrational. Wasn't he going to be a top 5 pick no matter what? I get the feeling people are just hoping that he becomes a bust and the guy they wanted the cubs to pick become an all star so they can say I told you so. He is 18 right? He got really sick in his senior season, and it took a while to recover. Other than that I don't see anything that would really change the opinion of him. Yes, it sucks that he got hurt in May, but it is May and he is 18. It seems like he is destined to be over criticized by everyone just because the cubbies didn't take their guy.

What is wrong with overpaying a player if you have the money? I understand it sucks for teams that have pretty big constraints on their budget but who cares of a team like the Cubs, Mets, Yankees, or Red Sox does it. Doesn't really hurt them much. They will still bring in a ton of profit.

I don't understand why everyone is so down on Benson. Its not like he was put into a very good situation to succeed last year. What good is cutting him when he is at worst going to be your second best RB.

There is no way Pitt can let Malkin go. I think that in the past 5 months it has become obvious that he will be the best of Ovechkin/Crosby/Malkin. Which is saying a lot. I may just be drunk, but Malkin has all the making of a legendary guy like Mario or Wayne. The guy is just unbelievable, and when he wants to dominate he dominates.. It is such a great time for the NHL. Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin, Kane, Toews, Price, EJ, JVR, Turris etc. I really hope they capitalize on the amazing young talent and make the NHL a big 4 sport again.
